Yeah Layne did what he wanted because he knew he could. He could shout into a loaded dumpster, and it would sound as sweet as the springtime morning.

I have a request from this band from a unplugged show they did that shows a different side to the band. It’s exceptional. Alice In Chains- Down in a Hole live from MTV unplugged 1996

The lead singer here, Layne staley, died at age 32 in 2002 from a possible Od...R.I.P.. I heard you ask if he was still alive.. you should check out MTV unplugged 1996, especially the song "Down n a Hole"

Just watched it, another great reaction! Your presumptions about Layne were right, he was definitely battling demons, that’s what makes their music so powerful to me. Thank you as well for adding subtitles!

This whole show they did was great. A lot of their live recordings I think are better than the actual album recordings. Love Hate Love from this show is one of them. Junkhead is another. This show here also had Temple of the Dog performing.

Layne was 1 of 1. Only Maynard has come close to doing that chorus justice. The 90s were an incredible period for emotion-full music. I miss the sincerity and the rawness. It'll come back around, whenever anything is overly commercialized there's an inevitable response. The culture sorely needs it.

The Dirt studio album. Absolutely no auto-tune throughout. Layne would not allow any such manipulation. AiC were always about being natural/raw.

I completely agree with you about appreciating real, unedited voices in performances from previous decades. Even great singers like Layne Staley and Chris Cornell weren't pitch-perfect all the time. It's not a knock on them, it's just how it is. Singing live isn't easy. Perfection is an unrealistic standard, and using technology to try and manipulate voices to reach that standard...you just lose something.

I am a couple years younger than Layne. From same town, saw him many times. Early song queen of the rodeo is awesome that no one plays. Then everything by Mad season before he died. Heroin is not good for rock stars or anyone else.

Μια ενδιαφέρουσα λεπτομέρεια είναι ότι ο αείμνηστος στα "Fe(a)e(a)d my eyes/Ja(y)e(y)esus christ/He(y)e(y)e who tries" κάνει το τρέμουλο ανοιγοκλείνοντας το σαγόνι, ενώ στην τέταρτη επανάληψη ("feeeeed my eyes") με τον λαιμό. Σου προτείνω ανεπιφύλακτα από Opeth το Ghost of Perdition, ή από Nevermore το Godless Endeavour για αρχή.
