Angelina's mother said in an earlier interview that only Angelina chooses the songs and she only sings the songs as she imagines. Angelina covers the songs and does something of her own, she never copies. Because Angelina sings differently, it doesn't mean that she can't. There are countless examples of her wide range and diverse voice.

in my opinion the fact that she did not shout like Adele does not mean that she does not have the same vocal power, but that she controlled it at will as usual, the fact remains that the emotions that Anelina transmits in singing no singers transmit them to the world.

She is singing much better than Adele; there is more feeling, not only power. She uses a different technique of singing. In jazz, you have to breathe differently. I do not understand your comment regarding that. She is not a robot standing on stage using her instrument. She understands the words and the meaning of the song and knows how to reflect the depth of the song. Bravo Angelina!

7 years of watching and listening to A.J., has taught me one sure thing; she never does anything by accident absolutely nothing. In these growing years she has been experimenting through her singing voice with different styles and expressions and stretching her ability to express herself with the subtlest voice inflections and on occasion this will include belting.

The sound on both versions is recorded on the camera mic, like most of her videos have been. The fact that she can impress us so much, with this serious limitation is testament to how great she is. Her performances on AGT show what she really sounds like. All too rare opportunities to hear a clear professional recording of her.

Miki, Angelina can go big and belt. She just chooses not to. Check out her tribute to Whitney Houston, "I Have Nothing". Apparently a response to people saying she can't hit high notes or sing loudly. So she just did that cover and dropped the mic with a cute wave at the end, as if to say "yeah, that was nothing".

She actually did strain a bit on the highest notes but that performance still put some misconceptions to rest. To me the truly remarkable aspect of that performance is not the belting parts; it’s the emotion and expression she puts into the non-belting parts. It wasn’t just about “look how high I can go”, it was an emotional tribute to Whitney. And we can feel that. I happen to believe that is the true genius of Angelina. She doesn’t have to be the best in the world at everything she does and I think she’d be the first to admit that she isn’t. But she does a lot of things extremely well and some things on her very own level. I think those are the kinds of things that she displays in songs like her original Shield, Young and Beautiful, Cry Me a River, I’m Still Holding Out for You, I Put a Spell on You, Bohemian Rhapsody, I Will Survive, even her 8-year-old renditions of Bang Bang and Summertime (or the version of Summertime with KORK in the outdoor tent setup when she was older, which is more than capable of making me cry) and others. What these performances have in common is that it’s not how much she does, it’s what she does and how she does it. And it’s about how she uses all of that to draw us in, create a connection and convey meaning and emotion. I personally think that’s what makes her great, not whether she has a 3.5 octave range or a 5 octave range, not how long she can belt a note out or whether her power can register on the Richter scale. I also believe that’s why we all love her so much. Because we have connected with her emotionally through her music.

@@mrpeppery , and there I was, trying to keep it short and simple for once, haha! Look, I agree with you 100%. I was just commenting on Miki's comments regarding Adele belting and Angelina not belting. But seeing as you're clearly one of the die hard angels - let me give you my honest opinion, which is probably going to land me in a deep puddle of mud with other people. There are several amazing artists rising through KZbin these days, most are very young. Not mentioning any names, you know which ones I'm talking about. Both female and male. I think they've been given an absolutely astounding instrument, each and every one of them. But that's about it. Their performances are, to me, void of soul and understanding. It's all about showcasing the instrument. They're showboats. Perhaps that will change as they grow older, perhaps not. When I listen to Beyoncé, generally hailed as one of the best artists alive, I feel absolutely nothing. She makes good music, but it's as if there's no temperature in her voice. Just as an example. Angelina has an amazing instrument, but more than that, she is an artist with an amazing instrument. Her performances are all slightly flawed if you study them from a perfectionist perspective, and that's what makes them so beautiful to me. She's not killing the emotion with practice and perfection. To her, it seems it's all about expressing the music, not showing off her voice. She's experimenting and playing, and if her voice cracks ever so slightly here and there, who cares, so long as she succeeds at telling you the story the way she feels it. The way she wants you to feel it. And we do, every time, don't we? I mean, I'm not a crier, but I need Kleenex by the boxload when listening to her! And then, to top it off, her voice has a colour and texture that is better than just about anyone. Happy times ahead, David. Let's hope that new album is released SOON.

Angelina sings with her heart beating in her larynx. That is how, as an artist vocalist, she conveys, effortlessly it seems, her different emotional states of mind. It is for her an acting tour de force each time she sings lyrical adult content, since she never in her life experienced these emotions, except through her diversified art and unbriled, unfettered and soaring imagination. May her artistic musical love language continue to blossom and help her to overcome the soon tyranny of the market in which, in my opinion, Republic Records is so caught up.

Angelina does not slide - she adds ornaments that were not there in the original. Furthermore she generally does her very best to respect the original vocalists interpretation, getting as near to the original sound as possible without slavishly mimicking it. Her great strength though is the warmth she adds to every song she covers. She literally loves the song, and that love embraces you as you listen. I don't thin I have ever heard a singer warm a song the way Angelina does. Just to note, Angelina has got a big voice, if and when she wants to use it .... it is her desire to give you the warmth of the song keeps her from blasting it you. Grace Vanderwaal out blasted Adele (One and Only); Carly Rose Sonenclar did the same (Rolling in the deep - second part); Angelina avoids all that and cuddles up to you with the melody, which even Adele cannot do with her own material.

Most of the issues with this performance is the location and sound system. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZTPnaqlYs-Lq5Y as a contrast. One of the things you learn as you do the Angelina journey, is that she cannot be categorized. What you think you know about her only lasts until you hear the next performance. Angelina always sounds exactly as she wants to sound. When you have heard some of her outlier performances you will use 'chameleon' in capitals. She has a all the 'voices' including a massive belting voice. She usually chooses not to use it in contrast to the original. Her 'Natural Woman' is an example, and her 'I have Nothing' is a counter-example. Enjoy the journey.

Hi Miki, I really enjoy your expert assessments of these singers performances....unlike the unqualified & unprofessional reactions/comments of 95% of YT reactors. The thing with comparing Angelina’s cover of this Adele song is that Adele is about 20 years older than AJ with a fully developed woman’ voice. Also it’s unfair to compare a live open air performance with an expensive studio recorded one. I don't see Angelina's versions of Adele as "Adele light" but as "Adele plus". Her special power lies partly in her ability to pick up essentials from other well known performers. She incorporates and reinterprets those elements in a warm, highly personal, emotional and artistic way. Her performances are not measured in decibels but depth and subtlety, giving them tremendous longevity.

AJ killed this song, it's fantastic. For me it's better than the original, more feeling, sucks you in more and certainly not as commercial. Lets not forget this is a live performance. When Angelina wants to belt it out, boy can she belt it out. She has many examples, try listening to her cover of Queens, The show must go on and Whitney's I Have Nothing.

I'm with you in that both versions are great and also very different. Angelina has shown in some uploads she has power and uses it when she thinks its required or is confined within a backing track (eg I have Nothing). But I think her best work is when she changes a song to show everybody that mesmeric tone in her voice (eg Natural Woman). I'm not saying for her not to go for power sometimes but I also think her voice needs to mature a little more to be on par with the great power ballad singers....she'll get there and fairly soon. Angelina's ability to change a pop/rock song into a kind of 'loungeroom jazz' song at this moment in time is unrivalled and makes her the unique talent she is....oh and that tone is like a drug and will always bring back folk, like me, for more.

One point. If Angelina's enunciation is not clear it is because she chooses to sing that way, not because she can't enunciate. One music teacher who watched her performances of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road commented that "she can turn a masterpiece into another masterpiece". So she is an artist, not just a singer. She uses sound in so many ways, and remember she's only 13. What were Nina Simone's, Billie Holiday's or Amy Winehouse's singing like when they were 7 or 13? Certainly nowhere near this standard. The only other person I've heard recently that has her inner connection to the music is Billie Eilish. We are blessed.

Suggesting Angelina is trying to sound like Adele is akin to Yehudi Menuhin trying to make a Stradivarius sound like a fiddle. Both are v nice but I probably go with AJ version , breath of fresh air and the extra bits she is adding to it making it more tasty. Still not sure how AJ does all these different styles of music & techniques although most people relate her more to jazzy, blues. I hope she works with right musical people now to shine her other capabilities as she is growing up. I guess if you listen to her music more you will find out soon that she is not in the business of imitating or coloning and this is quite telling even from early ages. Natural talent mixed up with nice voice texture plus so many other singing & phrasing techniques which I don't quite understand where she get it from.

Others have attempted technical reviews where they consider Angelina's voice as an instrument. That's a little like dissecting a person to find her soul. Your approach is more accurate as it includes the emotive part of her performance. I read somewhere that one of Angelina's motives in coming to live in the United States is that she had basically learned everything she could from the voice teachers in Norway. Hopefully she'll find a mentor who understands what an epic collaboration it could be.

I'm a late comer to this reaction, but loved what I saw, most especially because I love Angelina. But I felt you were very fair in your comparison to Adele, and there is a world of difference in voice maturity between the two, no matter how beautiful Angelina' s vocals are, and I think they are exquisite. Angelina's voice, at all ages, touches my heart in a way that no other artist does. I don't know why, and other than curiosity, don't care--she just does. I'm sorry you had some bad experience with some fans of Angelina, but I hope you never give up on her. She is so much more than just a singing voice. Please consider a review of her performance at this year's Nobel Peace prize, where she was simply stunning in her performance of "Unchained Melody", absolutely stunning.

I think you are to quick to make statments about A.J. You have to listening to her a lot more to hear and see the uniqnes and genius in this fantastic girl. You are talking about imitating. Thats so wrong. Promise that you listening to her more. 😎🇸🇪👍

no put down at all, someone correctly said, "I don't know what I don't know." Interesting thought here, Angelina so puts herself into singing that it is assumed that what you hear is the highest, lowest, loudest, breathyest, sweatest, etc etc that she can manage. But it really is just what she chooses to reveal or release at the time. Even after hearing Angelina for hundreds and hundreds of times, I think she still has more in the tank that she hasn't dipped into. Like the way she's backed off on 'I Put A Spell On You.'

I think all she needs is that the hype that she heard from people who spoke to her about this performance implied that she would sound a lot like Adele on this performance. She's not saying she has to imitate Adele.

Well, It's MEANT to be different. She never just "copies" anyone. She ALWAYS gives her own spin on it. Her low breathyness was intentional. There are other performances where she's solidly low. A non-breathy D3 actually. She has a heavy jazz influence. "Blurring words" is also a jazz influence. The precise complexity of her vocal skills with her timing, negative space, beginning or ending phrases with a bit of fry or breathyness convey the emotion and story of the lyrics much better than Adel's shrill blaring .

We have to keep in mind that classically-trained does not necessarily mean better or superior or "correct." Eddie Van Halen when he was in music class back before he became famous wrote something that according to the music teacher was contrary to Theory but he played it for the class and everybody loved it and applauded and he said "if it sounds good it is good." It seems rare to me that classically trained musicians alright typically intuitive or naturally creative but often are too rigid. So, Theory and correctness and classical training doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, Eddie Van Halen did have ample classical training especially on piano but all the classical training in the world can't teach natural ability or intuition and Angelina has both in oceans.

It was definitely better than Adele's version. I just watched a video of Adele and her singing the song together there's no comparison her live version was much better she allso hit the same notes as Adele easily I thought. I know when she sang it's a man's world she was hitting E5 pretty easily I thought.

Fortunately she don't sound like Adele. What is up with the people with belting? It is so over rating. What is all this comparison with Adele? Adele don't have the feeling and comfort of Angelina's singing . By the way I am a Adele fan. To be honest I really don't understand this whole reaction of you.

Angelina softer or delicate which I like I love you Harol sang she makes my ears happy she’s a Storyteller. She conveys emotions at 13 she’s going to get better and better so her voice will change nothing for the best I’m not gonna compare Adele to her I don’t think she sounds like Adele. She sounds like Angelina, delicate, sweet and innocent, that’s what I like about her now Odel is powerful and right in your face bless everything’s personal days and personal life that’s why they got a different kind of music that kind of thing or different things that people do I don’t protect me care for rap at all but I’ve had her son that was fantastic but I wouldn’t sit in a state all day taste the flavor is what they like that when she did Bohemian Rhapsody at 13, it was outstanding where she’s range, the song herself when she performed, do you got 77 million views

I apologize for the multiple stacked up comments but this is the first time I've watched your reaction here. You talked about her "struggling" to hit some of these low notes, but I wonder at this point have you not listened to her sing How Great Thou Art? She reaches notes considerably lower than these here without any problem whatsoever. I think it's safe to say everything that comes out of Angelina's mouth singing-wise is a conscious choice and never just happenstance.

I think this is not one Angelina's best performances due to the location, equipment, wind, relaxed nature of the event, etc. but I love seeing her in this setting enjoying her talent with the audience. The topic of her enunciation is an interesting one however as even in her best performances she makes choices about enunciation that not everyone would agree with. She changes vowel sounds, emphazises or omits consonants, blends words together, etc. as artistic choices to deliver the sound and emotion she wants. In my opinion it is one of her defining strengths, however I do think sometimes her youth and the fact that shes speaks 2-3 languages, may mean some decisions are not ideal. As she matures and grows in experience you can see her being more deliberate in this area. I am very curious about the impact of Republic Records on this specific topic because I can imagine them coaching her about how her enunciation affects her audience. Regardless of whether you prefer Angelina or Adele what you can't deny is that Adele is an incredible writer and composer.

That's another Pitfall of vocal coaches and such. They tend to think that their opinion is necessarily correct when it can't be applied to every situation. Someone like Angelina is so extraordinarily unusual and her stylistic choices are pure and right and correct for HER and that's largely a part of how she truly is a genius and a prodigy.

Sometimes with these iPhone recordings the audio mixing can get completely screwed up. Speaking of instrumentation, I kind of wished the drummer would’ve either put his sticks down completely or picked up a pair of brushes. Certainly the way it was coming through in this video, his percussion wasn’t adding anything and was more of a distraction.

typical rookie mistake (22 dislikes ... that's a record 😂 ) trying to put Angelina in a box is impossible. She loves trying different things. She tries to put more feeling on Adele's songs. You will see it on "a million years ago" A MILLION YEARS AGO (Adele, 12 years old) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3mvpY2HaNh8rac Angelina has done covers for: Adele, Amy Winehouse, Andy Williams, Aretha Franklin, Avicii , Bill Withers, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby , Bobby Vinton, Cass Elliot, Charles Aznavour , Cher, Chris Isaac, Dean Martin, Dinah Washington , Dolly Parton , Doris Day , Dusty Springfield , Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John, Elvis, Ethel Merman , Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valle, Freddie Mercury , Gene Autry , Gloria Gaynor , Halsey, Harry Belafonte , Jackson 4 , James Brown, Jim Reeves , Jimmmie Boyd , John Legend, Josh Groban , Judy Garland , Julie London , Lana Del Rey, Leslie Gore, Lou Rawls , Louis Armstrong, Mamas and the Papas, Maria Carey , Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus , Nancy Wilson , Nat King Cole , Nina Simone, Patsy Cline, Perry Como , Queen, Ray Charles, Rihanna , Roberta Flack, Robyn , Ruby & the Romantics, Sam Smith , Screamin' Jay Hawkins , Selena Gomez , Shirley Bassey, Sia , The Beatles , The Righteous Brothers, Tom Jones, Vaughan Monroe , Whitney Houston, Willie Nelson,

I can't believe people are mad that you said that Angelina doesn't have as much power as Adele . Most people don't, even people with powerful voices.
