I think the German interviewer meant: "Do you like gentlemen or forthright men?" We use the word "softie" to refer to a man that is gentle, courteous and romantic. And "forthright" translates into the German word "direkt" which also means "straight" in English. I think she just messed up the fact that if you are talking about a "direkte Person" (forthright person) you use "forthright" and not "straight".
