They're aged 14 to 21 currently I believe. Many of these young people start pursuing performance, singing, acting, modeling individually/supported by their families from when they're very young as a part of their path to getting into this type of group. They usually exhibit a lot of early ambition to be a performer of some sort, is what I observe. Then from around 13-17 they audition and compete to get into a trainee system with a KPoP agency, which is their shot to make it through a years-long process of training in vocals, dance, rap, performance, languages, etc. and then they have to compete for a spot. So of the 6 in the video (the 7th has health issues apparently, a long story not worth getting into here), two are Korean, two are Japanese, two are Thai, so quite multi-national. The Thai and Japanese members had to move to Korea, live in a dorm, become proficient/fluent in Korean probably from zero. Foreign participants have to win an audition process that might have thousands of people trying to make it through. English is second or third language for most of them, but most of them are multi-lingual as a result of the above. I think one of the reason that groups like this succeed in Korea is that there is a system to provide a path to success, and the participants are willing to put this kind of insane level of dedication and commitment within that system. The bigger agencies like YG Entertainment, that developed this group, have the brand and marketing pull to build an audience for their groups. Some agencies are fairly kind and caring to their young participatns (despite the rigors and pressures of competing) are very artist-centric, and I would say YG is more in that camp. Some agencies, particularly some smaller ones, there have been news and scandals of pretty rough treatment of their trainees and young stars, which is sad. The system is big business as you say, and has its pluses and minuses for sure. In this case, BabyMonster is the newest girl group from YG. YG's current big girl group is the four member Blackpink, which is a massive global success. They are the most subscribed musical act on KZbin, the most searched girl group, the top 4 Instagram influencers from Korea, top fashion influencers rivaling the top western influencers. Blackpink was the first Asian group and/or girl group to headline Coachella this year, and the first KPoP act to headline a major UK music festival. They just finished the highest grossing girl group world tour of all time. Etc etc. many superlative achievements. So the point is, BabyMonster benefits from the machine and hype that YG has built around its previous groups. Not to take anything away from BabyMonster's talent and potential and achievements thus far, but it helps explain how a new group can already have nearly 4 million KZbin subs, Spotify followers, Instagram followers, etc. a month or so after they officially debut. And how their initial song Batter Up was able to get 22M+ views in 24 hours and 100 million views in a couple of weeks. People know what to expect from YG and are eager to start a new fandom journey when a new group comes out. In the last couple of years, there have been an increasing number of girl groups released by a variety of agencies in Korea and there are a number of historically successful ones. For a lot of folks in the US., KPoP still flies under the radar, even though it is very successful commercially and globally. BTW, this is not their intro song. It was sort of a bonus gift to their fandom. Their debut song is called "Batter Up" and is more of a hype/hip-pop style song that has choreo, and they have dance performance and even dance practice videos, etc. to show the choreo more. They also have a "predebut song" called "Dream" which is more vocals oriented. Note, to use an analogy, KPoP fans are more like sports fans than just music fans. They tend to get heavily invested in the progress, success or failure, ups and downs of the group. It's like a team sport and not just music, so fans are rooting for the individual and group success in the same way that rabid sports teams fans will. Some fans get toxic around that, which is sad, but most are just enjoying the ride and want to be supportive and positive for their favorite groups. But human nature, etc. you get it. I only mention that because sometimes you'll see defensiveness or weird comments, and of course I'm sure you know to ignore those, but that's partly why. Two are Japanese (Asa and Ruka), three Korean (Rora, Rami and Ahyeon) and two Thai (Pharita and Chiquita). English is a second or third language for all of them. They all speak their native language and Korean. The The girl that was not present also speaks Chinese. Chiquita, Pharita and Ahyeon have the best English skills, but they can all sing in English very well.

Babymonster is from YG, one of the "Big 4" music companies in K-Pop. The members got introduced to the public as trainees at the beginning of 2023 through different solo and group live performances. If you wanna get a better sense of their (very impressive) vocal capabilities and analyze their voices, those would be perfect. Their initial 7 solo live performances are only 1-2 minutes each. Their debut track is "Batter Up" (more of a Dance and Hip Hop oriented song), but they also had a pre debut track called "Dream" that was vocal heavy. Reactions for "Dream" often times get blocked on KZbin, but everything else should be fine. They released a lot of behind the scenes into their training through individual introductions and other videos (showing some of the monthly evaluations and also presenting how their dance, vocal or rap coaches train them). They also got a reality tv style show "Last Evaluation". Everything is available on their KZbin channel. Lots of material to analyze from a vocal coach perspective . It might be worth to dive deeper into K-Pop, since the biggest music artists and trends these days come from there. K-Pop has a lot of girl groups as well as boy groups. Blackpink (from the same label as Babymonster) for example is a girl group and the most subscribed music artist in the world.

They're all quite good at English as far as we have seen. Almost all of their monthly evaluations were them singing and rapping in English. But apparently Pharita is the main fluent one at English since she went to an international school.

They are not early 20’s 😂 The youngest is 14 years old. The ones who can speak English the best, they went to international schools before they went into training at the record label or they were learning English as early as 5 years old because their parents pushed them to learn different languages.

I think there still more boy groups then girl groups, but there is a lot talented girls groups in South korea. I think Wendy from Red Velvet probably one of the top 3rd gen girl group main Vocalist. Wendy has a duet with John Legend I would recommend or Like Water is her solo song.
