From a Peter Murphy Spin Magazine interview… How exactly does one prepare for performing a nine-minute song while hanging upside down like a bat? There is a maximum amount of time before you black out; it’s 15 minutes or something. I was okay with that. So I got some hanging boots they use in Pilates exercise, and during rehearsals I got my crossbar set up. The technical difficulty is in the muscles. The vocal muscles are in reverse because of gravity, so you have to teach these new muscles how to sing.

@@Mildon44 I mean, a lot of goth is actually tom based so it is far more tribal and primal. Goth is really one of the most expansive genres, as far as different influences go. Probably because the bands under the umbrella can sound so different. It tends to be more of a FEELING, although you do look for certain things, flanger, chorus, delay, scratchy guitar, very prominent basslines, etc. But even that is not always present, within electro goth, etc. But the feeling defines the genre for sure. But NEVER the fashion, fuck that.

Not a big hit, but definitely a cult classic, and most agree, it is the track where Goth crystalised into a recognisable form. Other good tracks, "Spirit", "Kick in the Eye" and "Lagartija Nick". Yes it’s the original lineup. They have broken up and gotten back together several times. They’re actually touring now. They also perform without Peter Murphy as Love and Rockets.

Original lineup at this show. And Peter sounds pretty much the same standing upright

Oh! Yes, Peter sounds exactly the same standing up! In the '80s, his voice was a tad higher, and it's Vampirically insane! I asked my sister, because she was a fan before me... although she's younger, and she told me about how he had to train and practice so much for this. I was so freaked out and excited when I saw him doing this holy shit! I know I can't stand on my head at all, not even 5 seconds! I can't even stand normally sometimes without getting a head rush! As the previous, commenter described, yes he sounds the same upside down as he does standing up! Grant it, I was 21 when I discovered one song by Love and Rockets and didn't know any history of the house or any of them. I'd like to bless my sister's heart because at this point she's educated me completely on both Daniel and Peter's work. She had tickets to go to Minnesota from Chicago to see Bauhaus this year 2022, unfortunately the concert was canceled. Fortunately Peter Murphy went into rehab. And it's looking like Love and Rockets is going to be the touring band now. Which amuses me because the first thing anybody said was well minus is Peter it is Love and Rockets So why not have a Love and Rockets to her? Looks like! How exciting send Peter gets better about House tours and you've seen all the bands almost because that does need food tones on sale. A little bit so thank you for doing this as a song to discover because you speak extremely intelligently about music and but professing to hear it's not everybody knows!
