I'm so glad you mentioned that you didn't believe Pentatonix was tryung to compete with the original! You're absolutely right. Fans have been begging them for a cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for years, but they had always declined stating that "The song is Epic! We wouldn't be able to do it justice, and won't attempt it unless a time comes when we think we can." Unlike other covers, they stayed as precious to the original as they could. Definitely not competing. When they perform it live, Scott always says that they aren't good enough to be attempting this song live and must be crazy, but here goes. Very humble, and always apologetic and nervous. I'm glad they covered it, as it's interesting to see how they make the sounds of the instruments! Mitch kills the guitar solo live with just a microphone and fans have fun with it, dubbing him "Guitar Grassi". I loved the couch! It WAS intended to represent their beginnings and how far they've come on this journey. Great reaction!

Indeed, Kevin has a huge part in absolutely every song they perform. He's one man symphony orchestra. I know that it's him beatboxing, I know that they're a capella and yet each time I hear them I am amazed that there are no instruments, how Kevin does what he does. It's just jaw dropping amazing.

You were right about them honoring Queen. They worked on this arrangement for five years before they finally recorded it because they were such fans of the original Queen version and wanted it to be perfect. Queen guitarist Brian May was such a fan of the Pentatonix version that he shared it on all of his social media platforms on the day it was released with only one word in the description box: "ENJOY!" Somewhere Freddie Mercury is smiling that big smile of his!

Nice job! I enjoyed your reaction - especially as you are the only one I've seen who keeps going back to the fact that the richness of the original composition is what this arrangement drew from. That is one of the many things PTX does that makes the quality of their performances so high. I like how you explain their "superpowers" and I think you are correct, and hopefully it means that, even though they all have successful individual projects, we will still see them continuing as a group for a very long time :-) - I look forward to more PTX reactions!

Well, Ms. Roars, I owe you an apology for failing to acknowledge before now how wonderful & thorough your reaction was to this video. In my defense, this was one of the 1st reactions that I watched on YT so I only had a few examples for comparison. But in the event, I remembered enough of your reaction here to judge all of the rest of the reactions to the PTX cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. And believe me, most of them came up short. Your analyses were spot on, yourr comments were very astute and your enthusiasm all made this an extraordinary reaction. Thank you.

Hi Beth, loved the Pentatonix reaction and analysis. When you put the list up for voting for this weeks reactions. I kept picking one, then changing it and picking another one. And changing it again. The thing is that all of the performances that you listed. I have seen before. And I loved every one of them. I've seen Pentatonix cover of Bohemian Rhapsody so many times, as it's so good. And I've been a massive queen fan for a great many years. Which is why I picked Other, and requested Morissette's version of Bohemian Rhapsody. As this is probably one of the best performances of the song, by a female singer, I've heard. Just a pity that the videos of it are from smartphones. Because the performance is from a concert. So the video quality isn't really given Morissette's performance the justice it deserves. Still pretty amazing though. And yes, I know that you probably are getting a lot of Morissette reaction requests. So I'm not going to pressure you. I can wait till you have the time to react to it.

She's too technical of a singer for my taste, she has to learn to express emotion, which this song is about. IMO She has to mature more, have more life experiences, before she can do it justice. The only ones that even come somewhat close are P!nk and Suzie McNeil.

There are two videos you would enjoy. One was the making of this video. They had a street shut down and had to film everything in one night from 10PM to 6AM. Will you please react to Peter Hollens ft Tim Foust Misty Mountains? Both amazing A Capella singers (and Tim Foust's bass is orgasmic, no joke). Peter Hollens double tracks, kind of. More he does hundreds of tracks (just over 200 tracks of his voice on the Skyrim video he did with Lindsey Sterling). His range and talent is incredible because every sound produced is just his voice. You'll not be disappointed.
