The way this band took this classic song and made it relevant to today is phenomenal. David’s vocal isn’t just sound it’s an experience that elaborates the sentiment of the lyrics. He lures you in smoothly then crashes through the calm to let you know the passion behind the message! Reaching a crescendo only to grab your attention, make him point and then smoothly and so beautifully take you back to the finish. A pure performance that deserves every recognition it scores.

I'm kinda the opposite. Once I hear a really good live rendition of a song, I find it hard to go back to the studio version. A lot of the time it starts to sound a little too perfect, maybe a little too over-produced. I appreciate the differences and nuances added by live music, including the imperfections in the performance that would otherwise be cleaned up by a machine. People are fallible, they're not going to sing or play every single note perfectly 100% of the time. Plus, if there's any indicator of a band or musician's talent, it's as simple as being able to manage a good live performance of your own song, you know? Too many acts are propped up by great production masking the fact that they actually sound like shit.

Conan was also unaware until after, when a producer told him about it. He (supposedly) apologized to David for it. 4.) You can also hear it right around the 2 minute mark. It's very faint in most of the areas, meaning he's still doing the heavy lifting for most of the song, but yes. There is a faint amount of processing being done, which is not standard for the way David does his singing. One of the greatest live performances of any song ever… up there with Dame Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger at the 2013 Oscars, Demi Lovato singing Anyone at the 2020 Grammys, etc

I adore Disturbed's The Light. Wonderful music video, and it's a song that really speaks to me. I'd done everything "right" growing up and had this fabulous job straight out of college in a wonderful city. Started having all sorts of health issues that eventually forced me into disability. My last day worked wasn't even two years after finishing college.. My health problems aren't the kind that come with a probable shortened lifespan, but they robbed me of the quality of life I had set myself up for. Things I wanted from my life, outside of work, also became impossible - I got to skydive once in college tandem, and I loved it so much I wanted to learn to jump solo. Not an option now; it would cause too much pain. The loss of my health took a lot of my self identity and has been hard to accept. Nine years later and it still sucks. I'm in a better headspace than I was back then, but I still have bad days where I get really down on myself for something completely out of my control. The Light is a very uplifting song for me on the bad days. It's very different from what is canonical to Disturbed, softer than something like Stupefied or The Sickness or Ten Thousand Fists.

Both versions are amazing. The studio version tells an amazing story. The live version really shows vocal control and emotion

I am so stoked you reacted to this! Please try listening to Disturbed "Hold on to Memories." It is truly one of the most beautiful songs about remembering those who have passed before us and left an indelible mark on our lives.

The first time I saw Disturbed was back in 2001 at Ozzfest. They blew me away by how amazing they are live. David is easily one of the best vocalists at live shows. Like you said, they are one of those bands you have to see live cause they sound way better than on their albums.
