Probably people already told you, but: - I LOVED you guessed it was "Celtic-y" before you listened. - The language is reconstructed Gaulish language. - The instrument you mean, it's the hurdy-gurdy. Pretty popular in European Folk Metal and Pagan Folk bands. - This song belongs to their second acoustic album, "Evocation II - Pantheon", in which each song is devoted to one Gaulish deity, Epona (probably meaning "Great Mare"), is a goddess of horses, cavalry, beasts of burden, fertility and sovereignty (despite being worshipped in farms and so, according to various authors of the time, she was deemed "Rigana", Queen). - Their songs are usually more metal, from melodic, sweet/dark tunes that are led by female voice, to death metal-ish songs (with folk instruments still) where harsh vocals are exclusive, or combines with female vocals. Great video, Beth, I really enjoyed this one!

Love the song! Indeed a rather atypical song for Eluveitie, as most of their songs rely more on Chrigel Glanzmann's screams and have a more profound death metal-y sound. The instrument is a Hurdy Gurdy, see it as a mechnised violin meeting bagpipes. Keys are used to shorten string as the turning wheel goes against them, a bit like a violin and bow. It also has bourdon strings (don't know if this term is also used in English), a constantly sounding string providing the key or kwint, as you also have the constantly sounding note in the bagpips.

I’m a bit late to viewing but wanted to add a few additional comments to what have already been shared. Spite what you heard they actually do play some metal music that wasn’t showcased in this song. I would recommend the songs Rebirth or Ategnatos from their latest album. Her vocals really shine more and so does the metal. As others have written, the instrument is a hurdy gurdy. There are a few similar artist that utilize it, FAUN, Omnia even Apocalypse Orchestra use it. All of which I think you would enjoy if you liked this. Michalina of Eluveitie has a YT channel called Helvetion and Patty Gurdy of Storm Seeker also has a YT channel. Both are usually pretty active on social media. Perhaps an interview? Lastly, I’m really enjoying your content. Looking forward to seeing more.

Though this was a great performance by them, I was disappointed in the quality of the recording. Like you noted, it sounded like some of the instruments weren't mic'd, or something, which took away from the richness of the music. I'd love to see you react to some more of their music. How about something that really shows more of a mix of metal and folk? How about Rebirth? That was the song I was introduced to them with, and it blew me away!

As others have mentioned, the instrument is a hurdy-gurdy (or, in French, une vielle). It's a wheel-bowed string instrument. Its sound is somewhat akin to a cello, but with a different set of harmonics. It has multiple drone strings and a set of keys for applying the melody strings to the wheel, and is a surprisingly versatile instrument (as well as Eluveitie, check out Storm Seeker or Patty Gurdy for more gurdy goodness). By the way, if this sounds like ceilidh music to you, you've been going to better class of ceilidh than I ever have (XD)!

I have two recommendations for you: Anything with Lzzy Hale live for that hard rock sound and power. Algema by Allamedah which is a fusion with traditional Portuguese fado. Very interesting sound with a particular Iberian passion.

Finally ♥️ That weird instrument is a hurdy gurdy! Amazing instrument really. Unfortunately you can't hear some of them very well because their live mix doesn't come out in the videos, but live they are fantastic.

I like that you credit the singers' names in your titles. I'd love to see your reaction to Eluveitie playing Call of the Mountains, the singer (who was Anna Murphy at the time) specifically chooses a specific type of celtic vocal style instead of using pop technique. It's a stylistic choice that's worth analyzing.

You really do have some out of the blue reaction picks sometimes. Not complaining though, because this is a very good and awesome band.

The bronze age Celtic belt actually stretched from modern Switzerland to Scotland, and even had cultural influences on as far north as Scandinavia.

I'm watched all of videos here in KZbin. I don't care about the negativity of your comment about the. I'm watch you because I love the way you smile. Is that the primary reason that I watch you. And also I like the accents of your voice.😍😍😍😍

Huh. I thought this was their concert from this years Summer Breeze, but the vid was uploaded before the festival. I might've been able to spot me. But it seems like it's from 2017. I missed that because we drank to much at our camp. Hate it when that happens. We just lost track of time.

Very Cool to see that you Featured Eluveitie..! 1. The Girl is playing a Hurdy Gurdy... 2) Most of Eluveitie songs are sang in the Goulish language (Since most of Eluveitie songs are song about Goulish lore. Both the People and their history!) Or sang in English, or Swiss-Germany. Go back and listen to songs like "Rose of Epona", Quote the Raven" or Thousandfold".! Back when Eluveitie had most of it core members... this video of Eluveitie only has the 1 original member left... the Male vocalist and creator if the band.
