To me she is simply the best and most supreme contemporary singer. At least technically. She phonates, articulates, projects and resonates so diversely, healthy and well, its remarkable. The sound may be a matter of taste. But happens her sound is rather fantastic as well. What a pristine, gifted and skilled singer. Nobody rivals her at her game. There may be better operatic Sopranos. Or pop singers. Or grunters. But this combination of charisma, emotionality, power, diversity, vocal skill, longevity of voice, own creativity and musicality is outstanding. She has been touring and recording since the late 90s. She kept growing and improving constantly since then. When most of the clips shown here were recorded, she has been active for at least 16 years. Now its 22. Incredible. Especially the DVD that most of the clips are out of is a killer. Her vocal performance there is just overwhelmingly good. And many others since then.

#Georgina yet another great reaction, i love the small things you notice and point out. If i am not mistaking, you reacted to "beste zangers" last year, where the best Dutch singers honor the other singers, by singing their songs to them, or songs special to the honoree of the evening. Either way, The show is back for a new season (3 episodes in now) and Floor is one of the singers there. Now. all singers are worthy of checking out, but obviously Floor, being the singer she is, slays everything she touches. Sofar she did a rocky version of an German Operetta song from "the Merry Widow" Vilja lied (Vilja song), a Dutch song called Mama, and last Saturday evening, she performed a rock version of a Latin (Salsa) song, in Spanish, and each time she delivers more than you can humanly expect her to do. For me, Floor is the best singer I know. And in my opinion her biggest advantage is her flexibility in singing. It gives me the impression that everything is possible. Extraordinary skills coupled with talent and many emotions. She is able to give so many emotions with a tone of her voice. But never forget one thing. She is one part of a group of amazing musicians. And she knows that. Floor is a team player. Whenever someone else can shine, she takes a step back and supports him.

I love that yall are reacting to Metal/Rock vocalists and not just Pop artists. Rock and Metal vocalists, especially from Europe, are usually trained in classical, contemporary/pop, jazz, and growling vocals. You should react to Sharon Den Adel and Marcella Bovio!

@@Sevrion Although Evanescence not really is symphonic metal. But many compare Floorto Amy Lee although that is very difficult because they have both very unique voices. But I know why shes is compared to Amy. Mostly because Evanescence is more well known world wide because of My Immortal and all their other hits. Nightwish doesn't have that unfortunately but they deserve more attention then they are getting these days.Nice to see people from US and everywhere who discover Nightwish ande Epica, Withim Temptation, Delain. @@proclaimed75 I definitely know of After Forever and Revamped. Floor is an absolute beast. I know Ev isnt SymphMetal. That style of metal is not popular in the US at all so for us to hear such a gorgeous voice behind heavy music.... we didnt know such music existed. Weve had female fronted rock bands here but before Amy Lee they were all mostely of the Lzzy Hale, Doro, Heart variety with grungy vocals. Amy may not be the best but she definitely got folks from the US into all these other forms of European Metal. My new favorite is The Dark Element, I missed Anette in Nightwish and im glad she now has a really solid thing going with Jani. That band is amazing.

Looking forward to your reaction to all 3 singers! I always feel like the 2nd singer Anette is treated unfairly. After Tarja the original singer was fired they wanted a different direction vocally, and thats what Anette was. A sweet clear voice with a high belt. Unfortunately Nightwish fans reacted poorly to the change and never gave her a true chance, especially when singing the older material. I often am amazed that she was a strong enough person to push through it but Anette really shines on the two albums they made with her. All 3 singers are incredible and contributed great moments to the band.

Don't forget her Heart cover of Alone from the Baltic Princess cruise. Ann who? Also I wouldn't really say Vilja Lied is that operatic. It is an opera aria but she sang it it much more of a Nightwish / metal style. It does bring up an interesting idea though. In the last show they will be singing duets. Henk for whom she sang Vilja was very well known for his version of the Phantom I'm thinking of a Nightwish classic but maybe have the phantom with the clear operatic vocal and Floor doing the harsh / distorted vocals.

Thank you, Georgiana, for this reaction to Floor the Belting Queen. This particular selection of clips was really belting-centric, I have to say. And she did not even go into any kind of distortions. Well, may be a bit. I will be looking forward to your reactions to the aria and songs from Beste Zangers when you get time to do them. It is not surprising that somebody asked what "dampening the larynx" mean, because the term is used by a lot of vocal coaches on KZbin, but it is barely ever explained in terms that a non-singer can actually understand or shown on examples. Floor is very good at using it. And if I had to describe what she does I would say that when she belts in the song "The Poet and the Pendulum", for example, she lowers her larynx like when you try to talk in a deeper voice and what it does is that you retain the "vocal punch", but it diminishes the piercing twangy sound quality in one´s voice (I think a good example of that piercing twanginess is around 9th minute in this video). This is my very simplistic take on it, but I was thinking about it just yesterday. A professional explanation will be great. :-) P.S.: Speaking about larynx-dampening, there is a very young female singer who can already do it really well - her name is Diana Ankudinova, if you want to look her up. Thank you for the video. I love her voice but I have no idea about the technical aspects, so learning about it is really interesting. The "Beste Zangers" songs are also very interesting because she does other styles. I'm very curious about the next program, she is supposed to sing in some kind of..."latino music" style? And she said she was completely lost, it's not her vocal style at all, it was a difficult challenge but in the end she managed to connect to the song.

They're a Finnish band, and much of the direction they picked was due to the singer they found (Tarja). Eventually things between the band and Tarja just went poorly, so they picked up Anette who has a good voice and was available at that time. When that woman sort of burned out Nightwish got more careful, and initially Floor only got brought on to finish out the Tour. But after a few months they realized this woman is so lovely, so down to earth and so damn talented, they HAD TO make it a permanent thing. They only found out about Floor when she was touring with her own band (After Forever) and paths crossed. So Nightwish didn't know about her before both bands had formed.

First singer decided she wanted a solo career (agreed to one more album before leaving but they fired her first), second wasn't a good fit, and now they have Floor. To put it very very simply.

1st singer Tarja(TarYa) classically trained and dominately used that style.. pretty amazing live.. her hubby though caused tension as he kept demanding more money for her.. after the End of an Era concert.. the band fired Tarja.. the track "bye bye beautiful" is the bands farewell to her.. the track "master passion greed" is dedicated to her hubby 2nd singer Annette.. hands down pop vocal.. anywhere from competent to horrid live(at least with Nightwish)tensions were building up with her and the band.. she fell ill during the US tour and couldnt perform in the Denver show.. rather than cancel.. the band snatched up Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz(both were touring with Kamelot) to fill in for that show(mostly Elize) Annette was let go shortly after.. current(and final)singer Floor.. Tuomas(the mastermind of Nightwish)called her in to finish the Imaginarium tour.. the best call he ever made.. shes highly versitile.. can sing from classical to growling.. absolutely amazing live.. by far the best of the 3.. Tuomas has said that Floor is the final frontwoman..

Tristan Kruger: Tarja the original vocalist was eventually sacked. She became distant with the band and eventually she went solo. Anette Olzon was next, but when she was pregnant she left the band and now has a project called Dark Element.

Tristan Kruger Hi! :) Nightwish is a symphonic metal band based in Finland. Floor is their current singer. They had two more singers before her: Tarja Turunen and Annette Olzon. They were discharged amidst a lot of (unnecessary) drama. I don't suggest you to look into it. ; ) Floor is working with the band since 2012 and I hope she will continue to do it in the future. She has an extraordinary talent.

Sat 24.8. came "Vilja Lied" and Sat 31.8. "Mama". And now Sat 7.9. will come next one, what we are waiting all, what it will be. Those two were already amazing, first mainly operatic (little mix metal) and second pop/chanson style. Just showing how good she is!!! Great video! Floor is amazing singer and that Wacken show was magnificent, but its recording has some production polish on it, like pitch correction, as it was recorded for DVD and live album (Showtime, Storytime). Not that she needs much help, but the other shows; recordings, like Tampere, might showcase her ability and skill even better. Also, if you have not gotten to what she did with After Forever, I would strongly recommend that period too, especially since she was that band's songwriter as well. I hope you find your way to doing reactions to another great Dutch rock/metal goddess, someone Floor cited as being a key influence - Anneke van Giersbergen. Her tone and range is different, but she is just as great a performer and a technician. She gained prominence back in the 90s with The Gathering, which was Floor's influencer. After that she continued on a prolific 25 year (and counting) career as a solo artist, front-woman (Vuur and Gentle Storm) and a collaborator, most notably with Devin Townsend Project. Some of the highlights would be performances with her current band Vuur, both their original songs (Days Go By, Sail Away, Freedom), and Gathering's (On Most Surfaces). From collaborations, the stand outs would be Supercrush and Hyperdrive. I think you will enjoy any of those.... Thank you in advance.

Just pronounce the "a" in Jansen like you normally would, like the way you'd say "bath", not the way *I'D* say "bath" lol. English A, not the American A. I've noticed English people do this quite a bit with words in other languages...the most hilarious example was someone pronouncing "taco" with the American A, like thumb tacko :). What makes it more awesome is that most of these pieces of clips are from one performance, Wacken in August 2013 while she joined in October 2012. She wasn't even a official band member at the time. To compare the singers is quite hard since Floor sings a few songs in this clip which were not written for her voice and technique. Nemo and Storytime for example are songs that did fit Tarja and Annette better.. (not the high part of Storytime, Anette did skip that).

Floor is the third vocalist of the band, been with them since October 2012. At the time, she also was in another project of hers called ReVamp, but they decided to stop that one in 2016 so that she could stay focused on Nightwish. They're coming out with their new album in spring 2020 (and I can't wait... it's been too long). They're also coming out with the live DVD for their Decades tour quite soon, I think. I'm sure someone has already said it somewhere, but Floor has been in the music industry since she was 16. She started with her first band After Forever in 1995. During her time in the band, she used a lot of her classical vocals, but also her belting and more modern approach. The band was dissolved in 2009, and then she started her project ReVamp until her burn-out at the end of 2010, where she had to completely stop singing... It wasn't until Nightwish called her to replace their ex-singer in the middle of their North-American tour (she also had 2 days to learn the setlist... what a warrior) that she began to sing again... And the rest is history. She also collaborates a lot with other artists in the metal scene (such a busy bee). And one important thing about Floor is that she never stops to learn her craft. She took opera lessons when she was younger, then went to a rock Academy where she learnt more contemporary singing, then growls, etc. I think she is the most versatile female singer out there. I had the chance to finally, fiiiinally see Nightwish live for the first time, with her, during their Decades tour, and it was out of this world. I've been a fan of the band and of Floor's for the longest time, and hearing old songs sung by this powerhouse of a lady and the band was out of this world.

She is awesome, next level shit, and I mean this…. I am proud that she's from my country but if she was from another country I still had the same meaning, she can sing virtually everything, operatic style, power vocals and that's very rare seen, she can be proud to have such a perfect voice. Think many singer are jealous because of that.

As a life-long rocker, who is a reasonably good guitarist but sings like a frog in a cement mixer {:O} it is always wonderful for me to hear, from people who know what they are talking about, that the singers in the rock genre are just as exemplary as the guitar players :)
