Floor has said that she has never even tried to test her absolute top limit since she cares about vocal health above everything else, she has access to way more range than she uses in tours, but doesn't use it since she can't do it as healthily as she wants. Floor could technically outperform ariana whenever she wants. She can go higher and lower than ariana, while having way better control. Both are good, but you really can't compare them, floor is on another level in terms of control and knowledge.

C'mon I'm a Floor fan but that is not true. Ariana can use whistle register, Floor has no whistle register so by definition that makes this statement untrue. Floor's range is 3 octaves but her tone and power over those 3 octaves is superior to that of Ariana of course which is what matters the most (Ariana's range is extended by the whistle register). This would not even have been a close battle if whoever compiled that video included Floor's better sound quality concert clips and provided more examples of Ariana's outdoor live singing rather than short excerpts from talk shows etc.

@@MOBSERVES was a stagehand for decades autotune is for resting the singers vocals when unexpected injury develops or an artist gets sick, but in the studio its a different story, that's for the uncoached or 'influenced' off key amateur, or bad contract timing and pressure for perfection and the timing of seasonal release, stressed vocal cords from shitty habits whether not practicing or proper warmup, proper diet is essential for good vocal performance. When it is used to cover off key because of laziness then it's use has been adulterated and thus the reputation.

It doesn't really matter if an artist 'needs' pitch correction or not. Nine times out of ten, on a studio album, it will be used anyway, especially in a huge budget, glossy, mainstream production. It's doesn't necessarily mean a vocal needs correction because of bad singing, but a lot of the time it will be used to put it in perfect pitch with the other instruments for the sake of presentation and polish.

I'm a fan of most of the ones you mentioned because i will give them all props they all can sing but all of your metal bands sing every note and word of their songs. and pop singers mostly have their songs wrote for them, night wish Tuomas Holopainen writes all of the songs they perform.To me unless they can write all of their music, they shouldn't be allowed to be famous because it's more moving when its something that the band has wrote from the heart and soul and perform it.

@TheBlackiwid Well #1 great technique doesn't mean you're automatically all that listenable to. Sohyang is great technically but, she is literally like listening to a Disney Princess voice actress. I'd MUCH rather listen to someone creative with more than just technique. Someone who doesn't sound like 5 other artists who are successful already. #2 the music industry is ageist. I'm not even 20 and I know this. Name ONE popular singer who hasn't already been famous a decade or close that is over 30. You used to be able to, now you can't. You - can't break into the industry anymore if you're too close to 30, which is why Katy and Taylor have to dumb themselves down younger in terms of how they're perceived to the public. ( Which is so weird, because like 30-35 used to be the PRIME in people's eyes I think? At least it seems that way watching movies and tv shows. 30-35 was when you had it all together and were still young and now it's treated like a death sentence. ) #3 Good technique doesn't mean a great sound. This is an extention of #1. While #1 is based more on sound, vocally you have to think about music and your music as an artist. You can have great technique and a voice that doesn't pair well with the music or your sound in general.

Tarja would definitely win. Amy is nasal, but it works it's her tone and it's beautiful but technically not great. Sharon is AMAZING and has the SWEETEST most ANGELIC voice on the planet where Tarja has this dark, thick, rich and perfectly rounded power of a voice that engulfs everything. But, Sharon's falsetto and headvoice is getting a pinch less easy. Maybe due to age or maybe just due to corsetting too tight in the videos I've seen. Personally I'd say Tarja and Sharon are equals given Tarja's diction sometimes making her musicality sound a little questionable but that's debatable if that's really a technical skill of music theory preference?

Though I love them all, Tarja wins technically-wise due to her classical training, Amy Lee got weaker, Sharon actually got the best tone for me and is self-trained, which is pretty amazing cause she's the Leader of Within Temptation since 23 years and still got it, her consistency is brilliant.

Keep in mind Arianas e5 was while she was fresh and Floors was the end of a 2.5 hour set where she’s done vocal gymnastics the entire time. That said def a bit strained and just comparing the clips side by side, yeah, Ariana, but Ariana has shown some strain since we got to like point 5 or so.

Both singers are amazing. I think the critique here is fairly done. I didn't know which singer would get the most points, but I do feel rather proud that Floor got there. Her versatility is such an asset, she could probably sing most styles. Would you consider reacting to Nightwish - Ever Dream at Wacken 2013? I feel like Floor is really overstraining because she's going for the ending at full voice. It doesn't sound comfortable at all and it seems she can't sustain the notes properly, but I don't know if I'm right or not since I'm no expert - wondering what your professional opinion would be? It was originally written for a very classical opera-style voice (Tarja) and worked great in an opera-style head voice, but I think going for a full-on belty sound at so high a pitch is nuts. Ariana vs Miley kind of doesn't make sense since in those battles she's comparing them on the same notes. Miley and Ariana have different voice types- Ariana shines in her upper mix register and her head voice/falsetto/whistles whereas Miley shines in mid belts and low notes.

You can compare singers that sing different genres and singers with different level of abilities(although that is kind of pointless too) as long as their voice type is simmilar. When you compare mezzo with soprano it's just unfair since for mezzo C5 is a higher note (harder to hit, also 'sounds higher') than soprano. Same goes for low notes. (There's a video somewhere on differences between contralto/mezzo/soprano if You are interested) That being said i was just commenting on why maybe she chose to do Floor vs Ari. That's just my opinion, doesn't mean she won't do Miley vs Ari :).

I'm a bit bias since i love floor n heavy metal, and dislike pop.. very little pop music actually gets my attention, but i can still say they have talent (a lot of them anyway) Floor wins in every little clip. Like someone pointed out, floor is performing 1-2 hour sets in her videos and shes still singing every song flawlessly... ariana is singing 1 song at an award show or talk show,

Nothing against Ariana, but most of the songs Floor sang were written for a different singer who was pretty much only using one technique by someone else before she was in the band. Floor has so many different techniques that she can do, plus some of those videos had bad quality. I think if someone else made the selection for Floor, she would've ran away with it. Plus Ariana can't do screaming metal vocals. I may sound biased, even though she won, but meh most of Arianna's stuff is short sets on TV with plenty of rest, as to where Floor here has been singing long gigs. The last clips two of Floor was the last song in their playlist during their tour. I will say it was great to see this, to see different comparisons of completely different genres. Ariana has a great voice. She can't top the Viking Queen though.

I agree with the outcome, but the person that put the clips together was obviously dealing with some quality issues. Volume from video to video and distortion cannot help but to affect the sound of very specific note calling in a battle like this. I'm sure they did the best they can. :) Maybe next time try to focus on some of the acoustic examples? That should eliminate a lot of distortion, overbearance by bands and co-singers. :) Good job :)

Floor, defniitely, (despite some worse clips for her). In fairness: Ariana is still very young. If compared to Floor at the same age, things might be different, As for pronounciation: the dutch J is like in English, just a J. The short "a" is an "ah" sound, not an "eh". Sounds like "want".

What is the concept of a vocal battle? How do you determine who "wins", if that's even possible? I mean yeah, we can detect certain flaws with beginners and amateurs, but with professional singers who can both attract tens of thousands of fans in a live concert, and who most of the time perform flawlessly, it really comes down to personal taste and opinion. I wasn't surprised Floor won, much more power is required in Symphonic Metal. Ariana would be an expert at high notes, but Floor is very much diverse with the range of singing from soprano then straight into a different vocal styles, which I heard is challenging. Both great ladies, experts of their music genre.

Well to fair to Ariana whoever did this was partial to the Floor because the majority of the Ariana clips were from her to impressions on the shows. The Whitney one was SNL and the other was Jimmy Fallon and James Corden so this was done by someone whom prefers Floor
