Vocal Coach Reaction to Hall And Oates - Sara Smile - Live - Ken Tamplin
Hall and Oates were formed in the Philadelphia soul music scene of the 1960s and 1970s.
The two write most of the songs they perform, separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues.
They have sold an estimated 40 million records, making them the best selling music duo in HISTORY!
Billboard magazine had Hall and Oates at No. 15 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time and the No. 1 duo!
I chose to react to the song “Sara Smile”. Co-written by both halves of the duo, this tune was the group's first Top 10 hit in the US, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

This was fun to watch. I love your critiques. I’ve been to numerous H&O concerts and I have to be honest here, the instrumental breaks go on forever. The last concert I went to of theirs was at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga CA (gorgeous venue) 3 years ago and as I was leaving I said that this might be the last H&O concert I’ll go to for a long time because many of their songs went on wayyyy toooo long. It was monotonous. Having said that and watching many of your videos tonight, I want to see them again next year. lol!

Hey Ken... I grew up in San Antonio, TX. As a teenager in the 70's we had an incredible radio station - KISS fm. Joe Anthony (the Godfather of Rock n Roll) and Lou Roney were the stellar DJs who brought us Rush, Triump, Judas Priest, Moxy etc. Those bands and more broke into the American market in San Antonio on that station. We were truly blessed to have such a great musical education as SA was the heavy metal capital back then. A band we call our own is Legs Diamond out of LA in the 70s. Not suggesting them necessarily for a reaction (would be great though) but wanted to know if you are familiar with them. They are the sound track of San Antonio and were a tight, tight band. Let me know what you think. Check out some songs... Women, Stage Fright, Fugative, etc.

I loved this one, Ken! I really liked your professionalism and transparency in sort of critiquing ur version.... which I’m about to listen to. I’ve competed and nationally qualified in fitness probably 36 x successfully and success can really hinge on being honest with yourself... and it’s actually refreshing. Anyway I love ❤️ ya and love Hall and Oates. To me, the majority of what’s on current radio, trending, VEVO, etc is garbage

Ken, if you haven't as yet, would you please do a video on mic technique for condenser and stage mics? i record a lot of younger singers in my studio, and it would be nice to have another voice for them to hear on the subject.

To analyze the song of the nightingale is to miss the experience of what it offers. Daryl is one of two, yet still one of a kind.

These guys were just incredible. You wonder why the network would give them such space to improv this song Ken ? Well perhaps Network Executives knew that the demographic glued to the screens was one highly valued by advertisers . A wide age range of females probably mid teens to middle age at that time. Guys in general might not appreciate whom this song would touch. Thanks Ken for the reminder .

Their music is certainly part of the soundtrack of my life. This appears to be a performance from the German music television show, Musikladen. I just caught the "laden" portion on the sign at the beginning of the video. Not sure if historically that program gave artists more latitude in terms of improvisation, but if so, that is fantastic. I also recommend Foreigner's appearance on the German television show, Bananas (similar to SNL) from 1982 just for the stage set alone. The replica of Giorgione's Venus with the inclusion of a live model would not have been seen on U.S. television in the early 80s. I believe, however, that is the studio track of Break it up by Foreigner rather than a "live" performance.
