Amy Waldron - Smokey Robinson had a high pitched voice, and that was about it, but he didn't have the soul needed to make this song as great as Hall & Oats. Now if you want to hear a great cover of this song, it's Jimmy Wayne with Darryl Hall. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIewq2Cwr614b7M

Hall and Oates, what can I say one of the greatest artist of the 80’s. Their songs always brings back good memories of when I was a young man. I bet your Father and I could sit back listening to their songs and talk about those days while enjoying a cold beer. Thank you so much for your reaction. Keep up the good work.

I am a little too old to have listened to you as a child (54 years old) but I met you guys when I snuck into the infield at Pocono Raceway in the 80's. Apparently cut off jeans and no shirt while carrying a beer and no credentials gets you removed from the infield. But I got to meet you and Daryl and talk to you before being removed. It was worth it and my friends that were there still laugh about it till this day! Haha.30 years later and still listening to Hall & Oats.

Nice to have it good with your Dad. Cherish that. It was good with my pops too. He from a much older time and he liked jazz, big band swing and pop standards. Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella & Lena, Nat King Cole. Good to be exposed to all kinds of music when you are young.

Hi - nice to see you enjoying music from the early 70s. I'm a Brit and I was listening to this in 1972, can you believe it ... If you haven't tried it, you must listen to She's Gone, which is probably their best song and performance. Also, if you want a shift, try My Old School by Steely Dan off their second album, Countdown to Ecstasy - great lyrics, chorus and playing. Keep up the good work.

Both Daryl Hall and John Oates were students of 60's R&B/Soul artists. Hall hung around performance venues, he had his little band but he was ingratiating himself with the managers of the venues and he got to meet a number of established artists in and around Philadelphia in the late 60's. He and Oates were students at Temple and got together in 1971 or 72 and eventually released Abandoned Luncheonette in 1973. "She's Gone" which you've listened to already was a minor hit -- but it became big a couple years later when constant touring got Hall & Oates more established. The dominated the 80's charts.

Thanks for sharing your music story. I am curious about what other kind of music you listen to growing up. Hall and Oates will give you something different every time. Most of Hall and Oates songs were popular. Their songs were always on the radio and their videos on MTV/VH1. The sad part about that is that a person can get burnt out on the songs, and on the plus side most people know their songs so their songs can make some great spontaneous singalongs. 😅

Written for Daryl's long-time partner: Sara Allen (whose sister Janna Allen, co-writer of some of Daryl and John's biggest hits: "Kiss On My List", "Method Of Modern Love" (I think) and "Private Eyes" (I think) ...among others, passed-away, young! 😭😥). The band is NOT, in fact: "Hall & Oates" and NEVER has been! That is, simply, the "accepted short-hand" that most fans or "speakers-on" use for the artist. EVERY album has been released under the artist name of: Daryl Hall & John Oates. Go look if you doubt me. The song you, REALLY, need to hear, Chod, is: "Every Time I Look At You" (the closing track from their sophomore album: Abandoned Luncheonette). A true banger!!!!! 🧡 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡⚡⚡⚡🤘🤘 [features the SUPERB: Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on the kit! 🤘🔥🤘]
