I grew up with this song. My grandpa was a minister, my mom, grandma, and 2 aunts sang together, my parents, my brother, and i sang in the church choir, and many Sundays we all gathered at my aunt's home for dinner and singing gospel/hymns while she played her organ. This song usually ended the day for our Sunday get-togethers. Home Free did a BEAUTIFUL version of How Great Thou Art, and i always love hearing Austin (my favorite) and Rob harmonize. Sadly, Austin has left HF, so I'm very grateful for the many videos of HF with Austin.

Just to clarify. Austin (the lead for the final verse) is the high tenor. The beatboxer was in the ponytail and did the transition of "It is Well With My Soul" in the middle of the arrangement. For another great praise and worship song from them, react to Peter Hollens' "Amazing Grace" with Home Free. They use Austin to bring home the last verse again because of his power and clarity.

He has a 5 octave range. 2nd singer was Rob Lundquist (glasses). He’s a wonderful tenor. 3rd singer was Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. He had the ponytail/bun in back and has a tenor voice although he rarely sings. Last singer was Austin Brown, (reddish hair) the high tenor who has a wonderful voice. Adam Chance (we call him Chance) is the baritone/bass who didn’t have a solo part in this but is a wonderful singer. Home Free was founded by the Rupp brothers in college in 2000. Adam Rupp(beatboxer) is the only original member left. The others joined in 2012 except for Adam Chance who joined in 2016 when Chris Rupp left the group to go solo. You will see Chris in earlier videos usually wearing a cowboy hat or baseball hat. Home Free is known for amazing harmonies. They can also be goofy too but always sound good. The bass is Tim Foust (and you need to check out his collaboration with Peter Hollens singing "Misty Mountains" from "The Hobbit"). Your "favorite" tenor is Rob Lundquist. The high tenor is Austin Brown (check out Home Free's cover of "When a Man Loves a Woman" where Austin takes the lead and just kills it.) The beat boxer is Adam Rupp. The baritone (who didn't do a solo here) is Adam Chance, whom they call Chance to distinguish him from Adam Rupp (beatboxer). Chance covers the bass when Tim is singing lead. Chance does solos on their covers of "Folsom Prison Blues", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Sea Shanty Medley" among others. In their latest, Chance has pretty much the entire lead. Really enjoying your reactions.

hehe it's just sad that HF has tow solid bassists. Chance can't get quite as low as Tim but he has a real bass register. The reason it's sad is that it means another group does not have one of the two! Then again, I'd be sad if they lost one of the two. "it is well" was the vocal percussionist. That last tenor was the hatted lead from Man of Constant Sorrow. Austin is HF's high tenor. Adam (beatboxer) is also a tenor and can hit some amazing notes (actually low and high) using his vocal talents. He isn't as comfortable simply singing as he was trained as a trumpet player not a vocalist. I'd suggest listening/watching Helplessly Hoping for how well they mix.

Another great song to listen to early in your travels down the Home Free rabbit hole is their cover of "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. They have two versions - one featuring Avi Kaplan (formerly of Pentatonix) and one their live performance when they were on the TV show Sing Off. I kind of prefer the live version as it really is live with minimal help from production and allows you to hear what skills they really have. (Plus you get some reactions from the judges and audience, which is always fun.) But the duelling basses are also a joy. Can't go wrong with either one.

HI Danielle. I am one of your subs and I recommended Home Free, Voctave and Pentatonix. I knew that Voctave would get you. I am not at all surprised at your reaction. I made mention about them in one of my comments to you. There are so many comments recommending ridiculous song suggestions that it is hard to get thru with a song such as the Voctave Disney Princes medley. I think you would will agree that it is pretty stunning. You sit there with you jaw dropped ? Stunning is probably an understatement. You are only missing one of the big 3 A Capella groups. This one is perhaps the most popular with over 5 billion view of their songs. Pentatinox is perhaps with little argument , the most creative of the A Capella groups and I will leave a link that will stun you just like the Disney Princes Medley. This one is a 90's Dance Medley and this is 17 songs the grew up with. Difficult to imagine it is all A Capella , Hyperbole aside,. this is next level prodigy stuff. Thanks Danielle, see what you think We love you. With love from Florida ( This is 10 weeks old it has 9.1 million views ?) kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2i8dnR7gLCWhc0

This was so cool! My condolences about your papa, I think he must have lived a good life (as well as a long one) if you exist as you are. Any song you want to react to by this group is just fine. Basically like PTX or any other huge band or group, if the video exists on the internet and it was approved by the guys in the group, then it's awesome to react to. I just hope there are no YT snags or snafus... Luv ya!

The one with the pony tail is the beatboxer Adam Rupp (...well with my soul). The third soloist is Austin the lead tenor.

Home Free as a group has been together for 20 years. But only one of the members singing here was with the original group. The beat boxer, Adam Rupp, on the far right with the ponytail is the only one from the original group that is still there. He and his brother, Chris Rupp- a baritone, formed the group with three others. Rob Lundquist, the second from the right with the beard, is what I would call a second tenor and is the next oldest member of the group. Tim Foust is in the middle and came in and out of the group once or twice as he filled in for the original bass, then took over a few years before they appeared on The Sing Off. Austin Brown, the long reddish hair first tenor, was found singing on a cruise ship that Home Free did a stint on. They brought him in to replace the original tenor when when that guy left. Adam Chance was the bass with a group called Street Corner Symphony, the group that placed second on the second season of The Sing Off and does the bass when Tim is singing the lead. He is the newest member and took Chris Rupp's place when Chris left the group to go solo. All in all there are 11 past members of this group plus the current 5. Home Free was elated that Adam didn't go to Pentatonix when their original bass, Avi Kaplan, left the group. And I understand they shot this video in the Swill Alps. Did you notice the little church in the foreground?

Glad you found Home Free.. They are spectacular on every song.. I love when the beatboxer Adam sings It Is Well.. We don't get to hear him sing solo very often, but no one compares to him in beatboxing.

Actually, the tenor that came in, where you asked if it was the beatboxer, that was Austin, their first tenor. He was the central guy in "Man of constant sorrow". What was magical here was, the guy who lead the "It is well... With my soul..." is Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. You will rarely hear his voice, other than for rythm and effects, and it is SUCH a shame, because as we hear here, it's so clean and pure... In another song many recommended, Helplessly Hoping (what a wonderful performance that is!), he also sings (These two songs have absolutely no percussion, hence no beatboxing).

Since you mentioned you like the base being a feature, that's one of the great things about Home Free! They love to feature everyone equally and they also throw some curveballs in theirs songs. They are such a tight group and with a lot of their videos you can tell that they have such a great time and love what they do. If you want to see some of their lighter side you should give The Butts Remix, Champagne taste (on a beer budget) or All about that base cover. they are so much fun! Home Free also does an amazing job on their cover of Mayday, its definitely worth a listen! Welcome to the Home Fries!

The band was formed in 2000 by Chris & Adam Rupp. Adam is still the beat boxer. Rob joined in 2008, Tim in 2012 & Austin 2013 just before they won the Sing Off. Adam Chance joined when Chris Rupp left in 2016. Chris called Chance their secret weapon and certainly his abilities & range have allowed them to expand their repertoire. & I love his voice also. I can't pick a favourite as every time I hear one in a solo they are at that moment my favourite. If you want to see how well they blend, Helplessly Hoping by Crosby Stills & Nash is awesome, and being a singer you'll probably appreciate it even more than me.😁

Great reaction! Subscribed. The tenor at the end of this song, Austin Brown, sang the lead in Man of Constant Sorrow. If you want to hear him tear it up in still another genre, check out his lead in their cover of When a Man Loves a Woman. The bass, Tim, who sang the first verse, covers five octaves beautifully. You can hear some of his higher range and each of them individually in American Pie with Don McLean. If you'd like to hear more harmonies, check out Seven Bridges Road or just about anything they sing, but especially Helplessly Hoping. It's stellar. #subscriptionsquad

Seven Bridges Road is one of their older recordings (with Adam's brother Chris) and is an excellent cover of one of the Eagles best recordings. Danielle Marie, I just heard one (actually several...) of your reviews this evening and subscribed. As a fairly long time musician and acapella singer (~50 years) I really appreciate a music critic/reviewer who can actually sing well. Some others have valid comments as well but that gives your observations just that much more credibility. If you had to pick a group to follow, I can't think of one much better than these guys. Sooo Fine!!! I'll be looking forward to your next review.
