Why do you comment on his vowel formation? Hes irish so yes his vowels are naturally different. I've watch a few vocal coaches review this video specifically and all the American ones point out how his vowels sound different as if he's doing it on purpose but he's not, he literally just irish. The english vocal coaches know this and don't even comment on his vowel formation

He's a vocal coach commenting on the singing. Just because Hozier is Irish doesn't change the fact that sounds are being produced differently, and by understanding how he does so others can replicate it.

To answer the question the song is pitched down, I think he usually does live anyways. Still sounds terrific, I’ve tried covering the original key and it’s a lot of singing on the bridge

They just dropped their new album 'Map of the Soul: Persona' this friday and this song is the title track.
