I know this is vocal focused but as a guitarist what turned me on to Jeff was also his guitar skills, so unique. Probably only guitarists understand how unusual his playing was.

He plays the guitar like a piano if that makes sense. It's as much a feel thing as a chord or scale selection. This song really highlights that feel of his guitar playing.

He was such an amazing singer that most people forget his incredible guitar skills as well. He deliberately stayed away from singing and focused on guitar until he moved to new york a few years before grace. I guess he couldn't deny where his ultimate talent lay.

The greatest "all around" voice I've ever heard. Jeff could sing low pitch, high pitch, loud, soft, he could whisper a song, scream one, or hum it, and it would always sound beautiful. Seriously, I've never heard a man or woman have so much control yet freedom of their instrument. One in a billion.

From memory Jeff had just been yelling super hard on "eternal life" and "kick out the jams" prior to singing this - it's amazing that he has any voice left. I heartily second the request for "Lover, you should've come over". Also, this is the best version of "Grace" I have ever heard.

Great video. I love that you point out when he's just totally caught up in the emotions of the song and not thinking about it at all. I feel like that's a Gen-X thing. Fiona Apple does that a lot too. I feel I should point out that Jeff Buckley's biggest influence as a singer was Nina Simone. When he does that really exaggerated back of the throat singing, he's basically doing a Nina Simone impression. It's particularly noticeable on a song like "Lilac Wine," which they both recorded.

I just cannot understand how people can't appreciate this song and the absolute masterpiece it is. The cords match the song the rise the fall the pain and passion in his voice is absolutely wonderful and it is so sad we lost him before he new just how loved he would become for this song. I painfully love to play and sing this song and is one of the most requested at live shows of people familiar with our catalog outside of our own music! I give my best wishes to Jeff's soul before and after I sing it because this song made me want to sing and not just play because the pain and passion in this song connected with me and I'm so grateful to and for it and I almost want to cry sometimes because my grandmother lover to hear me sing this song and requested I play it at her funeral. It was the hardest thing I've ever done but after that true pain and passion of the song was cemented in my soul! Call it what you will but when you connect with a song to the point to truly plays hell and havoc on you but feel blessed by th end and you are truly touched then you will know what makes music so important to so many!

Truly he was a marvel, the only voicr which has really affected me as much as Jeff Buckley's was Chris Cornell. Could you do a video on Chris Cornell? He had incredible control over almost every aspect of his voice, much like Jeff, though in a different, usually much more violent style. Of course he had a soulful, bluesy voice too, but id love if you could analyze a Soundgarden song!

The thing about this performance is that it came at the end of a decent sized set with no breaks. He’d just been giving it his all for probably 2 hours and then he pulls this out. Was it perfect? No, but it didn’t have to be. It was raw and beautiful and he played the hell out of that song. Jeff will forever be my favorite singer, I can’t believe this was released over 20 years ago.

Really like your reaction videos and comments on singing. Jeff is my favorite ever. I'm not sure whether Jeff was conscious or not about hia singing. Was he choosing his techniques or just getting led by his emotions? Anyway, it doesn't really matter. I guess he could clearly send out his message. The way he sings it really gives me the impression this is a song about losing, letting go, accepting things the way they are, being freed from burdens and expectations and rebirth. But it's not about hope. It's about living in the moment even though it's a tough, hopeless one. I think it's beautiful because acceptance of reality is the first step for changing and starting over, being born again. This os true if you are depressed or a loved one has died or you've gone a relationship breakup. Love Jeff Buckley. Thank you for sharing his talent on your channel. By the way, I have to say I've got a crush on you, your voice and the way you speak. 😳😌😂

His vocals are obviously insane, but his guitar playing is also beautiful. Lays a perfect platform for his voice, and the self penned intro, which is a sort of dark corruption of the original chord progression is literally genius, and then he just smashes into the normal chords with an almost Townshendesqe windmill that really sets the scene for the up and down dynamic of this piece of perfection.

don't forget to give some emotional interpretation. that's what makes all the math, theoretics, wrote, and muscle control something that transcends our understanding. you kind of start to do this at 9:50, but you stray away from what you were gonna say, and revert to "willing to go places in his voice". dig deeper into the meaning, and i assure you, that'll be the key to making these reactions more so interpretations, and translate jeffs genius down to earth.

This was a great performance, but I misread the title and thought this was Jeff Gutt's performance of Hallelujah which is a great rendition of the song as well. You should check it out!

I'd love to see you react to/analyze Chris Stapleton (Sometimes I Cry at the Bing Lounge), Chris Cornell (Say Hello To Heaven), Chester Bennington (Crawling), Maynard James Keenan ("The Pot" by Tool), Lane Stanley (Anything he ever sang), and The White Buffalo (The Whistler). Please and thank you!

Hola, Adam. Me encantó el video. Quería saber si podías analizar "Black" de Pearl Jam del Pinkpop del 92, esas es una de las perfomances más emotivas de Vedder.

I was 14-15 yrs old when Grace came out. When I was 16 or 17 and running around with my skateboarding friends they would occasionally get in my car with Grace in the CD player. They never seemed fully into it but no one complained. It wasn't difficult to understand a true talent even when it wasn't ur particular jam.

I perform the same song 100 times. I perform it differently depending on how I am feeling during it. Live performances are better Bc they can be very different than the studio recording

He also sings "Dido's lament", which is classical music. That's the hardest he ever performed.

You should check out Alter Bridge-more specifically the singer Myles Kennedy. He has an excellent vocal range and sings in many different styles. Blackbird- the Live at Wembley edition is an excellent example of his range and emotion. Other good songs include Words darker than their wings (Royal Albert Hall version) Bent to Fly (Slash song) The great Beyond (Myles Kennedy... it’s just his solo album) I love how you break the songs down into the technique used... it’s really interesting and makes you unique as a youtuber

Sometimes imperfection is what make a song unique, beautiful and soulful. I would rather hear an okay singer with their soul exposed than a great singer who is dry any day. Hope this makes sense. Jeff Buckley is one of the few musicians who sings in such a way that you can feel everything they are feeling and feel the essence of their soul.

You describe it as he doesn't care, I would he goes those places cause he can. He has the talent and the ability to do it. It's like when SRV plays Voodoo Chile it's not because he cares about being compared to Hendrix, it's because he also has the talent and ability to do it.
