The problem (at least to me) is that Jesy has chosen and hinged her entire solo career on this aesthetic, meaning she's had to mold her voice to that rather than choosing genres/songs that fit her voice better. That's why she can't sing it live. It's too produced to sing live. Jesy has talent, this we all know, but whenever Little Mix forayed into R&B, it was always a group effort. Jesy's voice suits R&B in short snippets, but the fact is... there's a reason she was put in a band. She was a component that added to a collective and she fit there because it wasn't all on her. Personally, if mental health and less scrutiny/comparisons were her reasons for leaving, it's really backfired on her...

Her voice has a certain texture that can’t be replicated, the other 3 girls can literally all sing similar to one another, jesy never vocally complimented the other girls, her solo parts always sounded like a whole different song

Agree completely. Why would you lip sync your debut performance? She definitely sang live with heaver chorio in Little Mix. Also I feel like the backing dancers stood out more than her with the shinier black in terms of the chorio so you weren't even focusing on her dancing. Also agree that though I like the vibe, it's an odd choice for a debut song to be a remake of someone else's and imo the lyrics are quite old fashioned and lack depth or a point of view. Also think that Niki Minaj's section was the best bit and that's not a great start.

Well your forgetting that in little mix she wouldn't sing the whole song by herself, she would have breaks to catch her break while the other girls sing. But here she has ti sing the whole song by herself and with choreography. When I just lip sync the entire song my mouth hurts, so imagine actually singing an entire song live for the first time

not to psychoanalyse her but in the past jesy has claimed to be over her insecurities and then revealed the opposite time and time again (releasing the documentary claiming she's happy with herself now, and then leaving LM due to insecurity only a year or so later, etc). i'm wondering whether she had convinced herself that she was only insecure and only doubted herself because of comparison to the other girls, only to find that when she actually stepped out solo, all the same fears are still there... and also there has to be some nerves and fear there now she doesn't have the other girls as backup, all eyes are on her. that's probably a curse as much as it is a blessing... i have to be honest, i'm not a fan of the song, and it's a shame she lip-synced this when as you said, we know she's capable of so much more than this. it also has to be even harder because she's under a lot of scrutiny right now due to the controversy and drama so she probably knows people are going to be looking to pick holes in her performance - maybe that's why she didn't want to sing it live? i don't know. it's sad because i want her to be happy and successful but i think she's going to need to step it up a bit if she wants the solo thing to work out.

In Little Mix they lipsynced the chorus all the time and then she left Little Mix to sing the chorus live (and lipsync the other parts) :) Also if you watch the performance on big screen and slow it down when she sings 'please' at the beginning you can see that she pulls the microfone away from her mouth earlier.

Yeah I think it's a ballad. Boyz has an acoustic version too. She is exploring her sound as a solo artist, so the album will have different styles vocally and music wise. Please give her a chance, give her time, this is just her first single (she was nervous live understandably) and the album is her whole heart. It's a big thing for Jesy ❤

I would say botox would of its injected certain muscles as it paralyses them, but as far as I know botox isn't injected near the mouth, at least I think its not. With filler it would be fine to a point but those who go a bit mad and get unnatural huge lips, they would struggle to speak properly let alone sing and some even reported that they struggled to drink because their lips couldn't close together, but we are talking stupidly extreme here. Good thing about filler is if it did cause issues, it can be dissolved away fairly quickly almost to how the lips were at the start, that's if the filler used is the stuff that is supposed to be injected and not some botched stuff.

When Little Mix lips their choruses, she barely even tried to make it look real. yeah it's true, it's her very first debut performance and most of it was lipped. We should also remember that in LM she (and every other member) only sang like a 30 second verse so I’m sure as time goes on, she’ll sing a whole song live as well as doing choreography but apart from that as her first performance as a soloist, she’s doing what she’s meant to, promote herself and get her name out there. (Response to 12:10-12:18) I think it was a smart strategy to make an American R&B/Hip-Hop fanbase aware of who she is and get them talking. Even today, Little Mix does not have nearly the American fanbase they deserve; largely due to the people they have promoting them. In my opinion, this was very smart on the part of Jesy and her new team. It was also very generous of Nicki and Diddy to help Jesy expand her fanbase by essentially endorsing her on this track. With regard to the lip syncing, Jesy has always said in interviews that dancing is her number one passion; even more so than singing. When I heard her say that in interviews, I had a sinking feeling that she may choose a Britney Spears type of route for her solo career. I really hope she course corrects, because her singing ability is too good to be lip syncing. I mean... the girl can go from beat boxing to opera. She definitely has the goods. One video with Nicki and Diddy will get her started, but it is up to her whether she sinks or swims. I know she CAN swim. Will she? Let's stick with her and find out. ❤️

Perrie’s an exceptional singer and is much stronger vocally than all the girls (and many singers in the industry), but jesy’s singing tecnique is better than jade and leigh anne, much more personality, with jade she had the best falsetto in the group, and to me she has with perrie the best mid belt tecnique

Just going to say it how it is. The most underwhelming debut performance from her. The choreography was basic, she's a dancer herself and it didn't give me the energy that I know she's brought to the stage. The song is awful. She should of started with a song only by her then save the collaboration for maybe the second single. The styling was predicable. She needs to chill out with the facial expressions and sticking her tongue out. She also needs to STOP using a victim card. Like "no bad blood on my side" basically saying the bad blood are little mix. And that they have created it. I can't stand when she uses the mental health card she was fed up of sharing the spotlight and wanted it for herself. She should of told the girls that she was done with the group and wanted to move on doing solo material instead of cutting them out immediately and blocking them including perrie's dog on everything. She screams toxic and I hope Little Mix dominate more now.

Ok at first I was agreeing with you but then you had to put your foot in your mouth a bit. First, she can do what she likes when performing, everything she did during a performance in little mix relied heavily on everyone being in their box and that is where they had to stay, now she is a solo artist and able to have a lot more freedom of control, she is being goofy and enjoying it a bit, clearly she is feeling a lot happier and is showing a more playful side, excuse her for having some fun, why does she have to be serious? There is nothing wrong with lip syncing. But for this to be her first performance as a solo artist, saying this is the music she’s always wanted to make, and then to lip sync it, it doesn’t give off a good look. Not to mention however good (or bad) the song is, it’s overshadowed by the blackfishing controversy.

Okay, so I love the song, the choreo and Jesy's look (she looks so good in this hair). And I understand that they decided to do some kind of playback because the choreo was pretty demanding and it is very common to do so on those kind of shows. But it could be executed better - they could have recorded live vocals and used it as a playback or just paid more attention to the lip sync. I really Hope we get totally live version from Jesy soon. Btw. You look really pretty in this video. Cheers!

At the end of the day, it was on the bbc, and we all know what the bbc is like with lip syncing, so I’m not surprised this was mostly lipped, so I think we will have to wait for another performance of the song to really make a judgement

Personally I would lipsync the chorus and sing live to the verses, I would use a pre-recorded vocals But I'll still sing live (tbh I found lipsyncing more difficult to do than singing live)

It doesn't bother me if they are doing heavy choreography or if they are on tour (they need to protect their voices). But if it's constantly, without a real explanation, it's a little weird :/. I think Jesy is just getting used to singing a full song on her own. In the past 10 years she had 3 other people singing with her. She has such a unique and beautiful voice.

@@BuinidhMoChridheDoAlba I agree, I think another factor could be that she now has all this freedom to basically choose things she probably never got to choose before, everything she did prior had to fit the band esthetic and chances are a lot of the decision making was done for her and the others and they just went with it, now she has so much freedom and unfortunately the downside being she doesn't have the experience yet to know how to make the right decisions and do what's best for her, she's just having teething issues which is to be expected if a bit frustrating, it's all completely different and new for her and I hope she has a team to help guide her a bit more but I also understand how even though she isnt making the best decisions, it must be exhilarating being able to have that freedom, I hope in time she improves and finds her rhythm, she just needs time to settle.

Actually Little Mix, in most of their concerts, lip-syncs the chorus and most fans do know that mainly because the chorus generally comes with intense choreography. This is with reference to 8:26

I agree with everything you said. I really wish she chose a more original single and not resorting to sampling a song and having another artist on the track to popularise it. Jesy has an amazing voice so it is disappointing that she lip synced nearly the whole way through. My only guess is that she said dancing has always been her first love so she probably wanted to put more of her energy towards that.
