I saw Joan live twice in the '80's, and also feel very fortunate. I have been to hundreds of concerts in my life and seeing Joan live in 1983 was one of the few I recall vividly and in detail.

She never got the recognition in the United States she deserved. I was given a free listen to her debut album when it first came out, and her voice and music blew my mind. She was the queen of my dreams and my turntable for some while. Sidenote: that's one of the great opening lines to any song.

I saw her in San Francisco About 1982. The vast majority of the audience were women. Back to the night cassette was constantly in my car stereo until I got eaten. That was in the. 70s.

Legendary producer Glyn Johns (producer and engineer for Zepp, Stones, Beatles, The Who, Eagles, Dylan, Ronstadt, Clapton, Clash, Steve Miller Band, Small Faces, Easybeats, Blue Oyster Cult, Midnight Oil, Humble Pie, and many others) said this album (self-titled Joan Armatrading) was the best album he’d ever been associated with. That’s some massive endorsement from a giant in the industry.

Joan has been at the very top of the British music industry for most of my life. She is part of a very elite group who can compose, sing and play. In fact today will be the premiere of her symphony no 1 - which rather puts her into a class of her own. Apart from all of that.... I just love her music

SO glad you have got around to Joan Armatrading, after Joni Mitchell my favourite female singer. She is such a lovely person too. Saw her several times through her career up to a few years ago during her final ? World Tour. Another superb tune from that era, & live, would be "Show Some Emotion" with gentle moments like in "Love And Affection" but also some up-tempo moments that let that smile really shine. Your insight & reactions are much appreciated.

The Beauty of this tune is that this song offers no expectation for where it'll actually take you, which, I believe makes for the best songs, if not then the greatest love songs. Okay, while the whole song gives for me this undescriable feeling for ehy it moves me so, brother its just everything,! BUT, I swear when she gets to that "Thank you" part there is literally this magic there, this spell that's casted over you and it continues thru out the rest of the verse and on.

It would be interesting when you’re doing another Armatrading song to talk to the cultural mix of Brit/Caribbean when you refer to contrasting styles and tempos. I was listening to her back in my teens in Australia but I’ve no idea what the scene was there at the time but I imagine people must of been captured by that mix. A little while ago I checked back to see where she was and saw that she still took the stage at Glastonbury which I think is a big thing. It was nice to know that she was still appreciated after so much time just as she should be. Far better than Joni Mitchell imo.
