@@mims1992-y6c I get that. I liked it though. I think that was her purpose because it was Lady Gaga singing the song, not Ally from a Star is Born. So she made it her way and Gaga's way (to me) always has a little something that makes my heart flutter: and to watch this song in a different light was really lovely. I liked your insight on the performance :)

@@BroadwayBen89 She's known to do that though. Gaga is all about transformin her look/sound, and that includes the way she sings. Listen to her sing the David Bowie tribute, or "Your Song" by Elton John, or literally any performance she has with a rock band. She changes her voice to match the tone of the performance/to encapsulate the original performer's style.

hi, not trying to be rude, this is coming completely from a ed perspective, like tristan. i study voice, and yes i totally understand where you are coming from, but there are ways to darken your tone to get a more “masculine” tone, but she was darkening it a bit too much, which caused her to go under the pitch. again, just trying to shed some light and get u to understand where he was coming from!💗

Not true. The verses are in the same key and are the same notes. Just because a man sang the first verse originally doesn’t mean it is deeper/different notes. She could have sang it exactly the same as her verse. It’s the placement of her mouth and soft palette that is effecting her intonation.

Here’s the thing, though. The official sheet music is the exact same notes in the exact same key for those 2 verses. Just because a male sang the first verse doesn’t mean the music is automatically lower than a female verse in the same song. The approach should be the same for bit verses if Gaga was singing them both or if Bradley was singing them both.

It's sad how many times Tristan has to apologize for pointing out Gaga's "mistakes" because people will hate on him so easily when he's just trying to help us get better. Like chill everyone has bad days, no one is perfect. Just because something wasn't perfect in the performance doesn't mean Tristan is hating on her. Criticism is beneficial, not harmful. It's not like he's saying OMG she's a bad singer. He's being reasonable and not just judging her from this one performance. He even respected the fact that she wanted to be edgy in this specific performance.

@KaeTV Uhm... probably because it is rarely ever done because it is a part made for a man. Her situation was special and he didn't realize because I assume he doesn't just randomly read about drama. If there is a part usually sung by a man, it is, most of the time, adjusted to suit the voice of the female. Sometimes it can go unchanged, but it usually is changed to make up for the lower voice that is harder for women to do.

All of the songs in A Star is Born were sung live, on camera. Sis can SANG, and if anybody needs some extra proof, go watch her sing the national anthem at the super bowl, or her Sound of music tribute at the Oscars. She’s literally one of the best in the business. I think what she was trying to do here was prove that the sound and stage persona she created for her character Ally are so different from her real self so that she’ll have a better chance of winning best actress at the Oscars. It’s a pretty smart move, and she could have done it better because her rock tone is incredible, she was actually in a Led Zeppelin cover band before she got famous. But I’m sure when the Academy votes are all in, she’ll go back to toning down the song. It’ll be a much different kind of performance at the Oscars, I guarantee you.

This is her best performance of Shallow. Being on key for every single note doesn’t make a perfect performance. She emotes so well in this performance, has so much power, and you EXPECTING her to sing this song a certain way and then singing it the complete OPPOSITE way is EXACTLY WHAT MAKES HER GREAT

whoa I am not a singer but I do enjoy singing with my guitar from time to time and this video really helped me! I personally like my voice to sound deeper and grunger.. but I feel like when I am covering a pop song I'd like to lift my voice and hit those higher notes but it feels uncomfortable and you described it perfectly. I feel like I'm dragging a lot of weight up. Changing the vowels is a huge difference! And you gave so much respect to gaga :D

Marina Tomačić She was really high that night. All it comes down to is that your perspective changes when you’re in that state of mind. How she heard herself was not how she actually sounded like. Honestly I give her props for being able to finish the performance. I loved this rendition because I can hear what she was aiming for it to sound like even though it’s pitchy because the structure of the performance itself is very strong.

I've been a die hard fan of hers since 2008. The hours of her live performances that I've watched are impossible to calculate, and possibly frightening if I actually knew the number. This performance REALLY struck a cord with me, as a very long time fan. It was the Lady Gaga of 2008/2009 meshed with A Star is Born Lady Gaga. Just look back to her early live performances of Just Dance or Love Game and you'll see what I mean. She also brings old school metal vibes to her vocals. I have the opinion that Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is one of the best male vocalists of all time, and she really brings an element of that. I am not offended whatsoever by your criticism. I think for a person to perform on her level and not lip sync, it would be otherworldly for her vocals to be perfect.

Here's my take on this performance. I don't think it's her best and I know it's not awful. She did a rock n roll rendition of the song because she knew that in two weeks she would be performing shallow again at the oscars. So she didn't want it to be boring and repetitive. I would've loved it if she performed I'll never love again at the grammys instead of shallow just to switch it up. Anyways I can't wait to watch her perform at the oscars.

@@baileebee3708 I totally agree that it wasn't her best performance. I just think that it is important to note that she was singing a part that she usually doesn't in the beginning. She doesn't have as much practice singing/performing his part. Also, I think she tried to in a way make her voice sound more similar to Bradley Cooper's than she normally sings.
