She likely has hyperfunctional dysphonia which is caused by overuse of the laryngeal muscles (and, occasionally, use of the false vocal folds). She'd benefit from seeing a laryngologist and having voice therapy.

Feel like it would be better to say "that's not a healthy way to sing", "you aren't vocally polished enough for this", or "Maybe you aren't at a place where you can make singing a part of your career". I'm not sure if you mean she shouldn't sing career wise or just never sing ever, but if it's the latter I'm very opposed to that idea. People should be allowed to sing for fun if they enjoy it. My dad loves singing even though he's not good at being on pitch. Apparently when he was a young guy he was participating in some sort of church choir or something (not an auditioned one, don't even know if it was a choir, just that he was singing with other people) and the guy next to him told him he was the worst singer he had ever heard. It really affected my dad and he avoided singing for years. As someone who did years of auditioned choir and voice lessons, I will say, my dad is not a good singer, but it's not unpleasant to hear him sing or anything, even if he's pretty off pitch. When my dad is singing, I know he's happy and in a good mood. Never in my life have I found his singing unpleasant.

yeah, it was originally written for miley cyrus who turned it down. it was then given to brit smith, who recorded a studio version that wasn't released either. but now, brit smith's karma is on streaming platforms as of 2 days ago and it's miles better
