The last full Queen concert my husband and I attended was in 1982 at "The Bowl" in Milton Keynes UK. We also saw them at Live Aid in 1985. But back to the concert, the atmosphere even before Queen took the stage was electric, you could feel it build. When they came out on stage we all just erupted, the roar was huge, Freddie was magnetic, you couldn't take your eyes off him, don't get me wrong the rest of the band was magnificent, but Freddie just seemed to have this aura. It was the best time of our lives, we couldn't talk above a whisper for the next three days because we sang our hearts out. My husband even said that Freddie was the only man that he would turn for, that's how big an effect he had on us, I have been a fan of Queen and particularly Freddie since 1973/4 and I'm now 73 and still as big a fan now as I was then.

@@joannedarley1893 It was a great show, as was the one in 1980 I went to. I'd been a fan of Billy Squier since his "In the Dark" album. In fact I saw him as the main act about a year or so earlier. There are some videos here on KZbin from his "In the Dark" tour from '81. As a matter of fact in the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" there is a scene when Queen is playing Madison Square Garden during the Game tour, I was in the seats for that one. :)

Right. It is Mr. Mercury for the most part, the choir and everything, topped up a little with frills and thrills by Mr. Taylor. Certainly they could never do anything near that live, and Mr. Mercury was live not that kind of a precise singer. On stage he was a diva who wanted to entertain his audience, an entirely different person than off-stage or in the studio.

Please consider reacting to Queen's iconic performance at Live Aid. I remember watching Live Aid from our family room in North Hollywood. When Queen came on I couldn't stay seated, I had to stand up. My mom walked by, asked why I was standing, then stood next to me - then my sister, then my dad. All four of us clapping, cheering and completely drawn into a moment where time stood still! There was so much drama about Queen participating in Live Aid, but criticism melted away after they took the stage.

Yes, this was a perfect performance, recorded in the studio under optimal conditions. The version I love best is 1981 at Montreal. That was completely LIVE, and there were just as good, if not better considering the conditions. I have watched several performances of this song but Montreal is the best. Freddie's vocal runs are outstanding, as well as his falsetto. It is much more fun watching them, and particularly Freddie, work the stage and the audience, and there are some antics by Freddie that gave me a chuckle. They were not only total coordinated in their parts of the song, but I am surprised they moved around the stage sl well without tripping over one another or their instrument cords. They excelled at EVERYTHING THEY DID. 99% of the time I prefer the LIVE performances, each something special or slightly different from the studio versions, and it is the closest I will ever get to actually watching and listening to them perform.

You need to react to the live version of this song in Montreal 1981. For a band that was exquisite in the studio they were usually, with some exceptions, even better live. That says so much for their musicianship and overall talent. The very high notes were sung by the drummer Roger Taylor. The 3 singers, Brian, Roger and Freddie's voices blend perfectly. I saw them in 1977 and Freddie's charisma jumps out at you. You can't tear your eyes from him. It was the best concert I ever saw, and I saw many concerts. They were very serious about giving their fans great concerts from day one. Watch Live at the Rainbow 1974, Hammersmith 1975, Montreal 1981, Budapest and Wembley 1986.

yvr kid - Deaky also sang some back up in concert, especially later on like in Budapest and Wembley (I saw them live too in 1980 and he did sing) and a little on recordings including this song, but never lead. He primarily chanted choruses where he didn't need a lot of vocal dexterity. A shame he lacked confidence because I thought his voice was actually not bad.

im almost 41, i discovered Queen due to the Highlander movies and tv show. Then i went back and dug out my parent records and they had doubles of all of the Queen records. this song still brings a tear to my eye. and how many groups have an astrophysicist as a lead guitar?

Hard to believe Freddie's been gone 30 years now, I was a teen from late 70s to mid 80s and Queen's music were a massive part of my growing up.

I feel now...that back in the 70s we all took everything for granted. As time drifted on...decades later we listen to reactors, like yourself, to bring it all into focus. I have spent the last 18 months learning from you and seeing our beloved music from many moons ago being appreciated and, indeed, kept alive!

Saw Queen twice in the 80's....nothing compares prior, and only once did I go to a concert where I thought Queen were given a ride for their money, and that was Pink Floyd PULSE concert 1994 at Earls Court....and I couldn't say one was better than the other! Both were stunning, and I was privileged to see probably the two best bands to have graced the 20th Century, and would probably include the Beatles, in my humblest opinion!!

4:04 Gerry Rafferty. Jeff Lynne. Queen. British performers from the 70's that put some serious work into every aspect. There was no 90% vocals and 10% of everything else. It was all given the same amount of attention.

@@orcunaicovers17 in 1981 I was 14 and the show blew me up completely. I remember to see Freddie and the boys as a Revelation in terms of art! From that day on I started to be a huge fan. My best memory of that day is Somebody to love because Freddie made an astonishing interpretation. If you can please find that song in KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6XcdJt_rNSeqJI

I saw them in 1980 at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. As awesome as they are today I have to say back then they were Queen the rock group. Yes, I loved their music and I still do today. The funny part is I had to wait until I was so much older to look back and appreciate what I saw. I have seen Led Zeppelin with John Bonham, Van Halen, Yes and the list goes on. Most of the '70s and the '80s were spent going to concerts. I spend so much time on KZbin looking at reaction videos to see if the person reacting saw what I saw for the first time. There were many bands that you could go see live that actually sounded good. Queen I would say are one of those bands that watching them live was better than the recording. The added their own flair to the song that you didn't get from the recording. I am so glad you appreciated Queen's writing and production they brought to the stage.

There was no one better than Queen. Even Steve Howe of Yes, who played on the song Innuendo said he hadn't seen anything like Queen and how they did things. Innuendo might be a good reaction video due to its timing.

The live version of this song in Montreal 81' is even better!! Check it out, you won't regret it, they took this song to another level! One of the best Freddie's live vocals ever and the band play tight as always! (and Roger Taylor vocals are amazing too in that version) ;)

The one thing I've always loved about Freddie and Queen has been, no two performances are the same. Sure, they're doing the same songs but at the same time they are all different in some way, whether it's Freddie's runs, Roger's drum solos, Brian's guitar solos, or John's bass riffs. Live shows were epic. I was lucky enough to see them live 7 times. Freddie is the best thrre was, the best there and the best there will ever be.
