This is the music they were raised on, and as babies used to fall asleep on a blanket on the floor as my band practiced in the basement. I am so very happy that young vocalists such as yourself are giving people like Tate, Dio, Dickinson and Halford the kudos they deserve even if it is on a monetary KZbin channel. I was shocked when I heard Queensryche for the first time when my best friend and I were going to see Metallica in 1988, and Queensryche was opening. Operation Mindcrime had JUST come out and had not hit yet, and Queensryche hits the stage and I was seriously blown away by them. They did a fantastic show and with their musicianship set the crowd up for the power and brutality that was Metallica. I was an instant fan. Unfortunately for Geoff, he set the bar so high with his vocals through the years that he could only deliver half to three-quarters of the was from 1991 forward, and the band paid for it. Several mediocre albums after Empire, them waiting too damn long to record Operation Mindcrime II when Geoff could not deliver the goods on that level anymore, and then the rather nasty public squabble over naming rights all tarnished the band's legacy. It's a shame because Queensryche could have been one of the all-time great bands had things gone differently for them.

@@Rendclaw Sad but true. As much as I like Geoff Tate as a vocalist (at least back then he was one of the top dogs), I think the band really went downhill after Chris de Garmo left. Still they had some good songs then and there after Empire, but that golden age (Queensryche LP, The Warning, Rage for Order, Operation:Mindcrime -And i'll go back to this album shortly- and Empire) was something unique and unrepeatable And Idk, despite the band tarnishing their legacy, Operation:Mindcrime is still as -if not more- relevant as back then! And back to the point at hand, Geof Tate as a Vocalist was freaking amazing, and it saddens me how things went for this amazing band. Still early Geoff remains one of my favorite vocalists, that power, control and range..Right there with the holy triumvirate of metal vocalist of that time

Geoff Tate, in my opinion, is the best metal lead vocalist of all time and this is the song he does that I use as the reason why. Geoff was the original lead vocalist of Queensryche, one of the original founders of the Progressive or Prog Metal genre. He is 62 years old, but still singing with his own band, doing much of his old Queensryche stuff. His best stuff includes the songs Queen of the Reich, The Lady Wore Black, Walk in the Shadows, Eyes of a Stranger, I Don’t Believe in Love, Another Rainy Night and You. In case you can’t tell, his band, Queensryche, are one of my favorite bands and he is my favorite singer, but, let me tell you once again, that this song is the best example of what he can do. It was great to see someone notice his brilliance like I do.

Thank you so much for doing this! He’s had formal training in opera, which was one of the reasons I was curious what you’d think of him. Sadly the band came to an ugly ending some time in the late 90s/early 2000s, and I’m not sure how much singing he still does...he makes wine from his own vineyard now. They did do a concept album called Operation Mindcrime, which tells a single story in 15ish songs. Geoff does still sing. He split from the band, though, in an unpleasant way, lawyers 'n all, trying to get the rights to the band's name. He lost that legal battle, so he now has his own band (though he did retain the rights to Operation: Mindcrime since it is his brainchild). He was supposedly aggressive to his band mates during the end of his tenure with Queensrÿche as well. Lots of drama, sadly. Unfortunately his voice has suffered over the years. He no longer has the incredible range he had in this video (circa 1984 this is). The fact that he's a smoker undoubtedly played a part in this. But back then he was in his prime, in the 80's and first half of the 90's. Granted, after 1995 the band started making simpler music that doesn't invite such dramatic vocals, supposedly also by his influence (something that is sort of confirmed after he left the band and they started going back more to their old sound and hired a singer, Todd LaTorre, who does still have this incredible range and can sing these old songs as well as Geoff did). I was kind of hoping you would one day react to this song, so thank you for this! I enjoyed your response. Queensrÿche, up until 1995's Promised Land album, is something I can never get enough of.

Queensrÿche with Chris DeGarmo created milestones and one of best albums of all time - Operation: Mindcrime. For me this is one of my greatest love, standing next to Pink Floyd - The Wall, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Death - Human, Psychotic Waltz - A social disgrace, Blind Illusion - The sane Asylum, Dream Theater - When dream and Day unite, Colosseum - Live and Type O Negative - Slow deed and hard. All this Albums are timeless and most of them since the day of their release. Back to Queensrÿche: After Chris left, the Band lost their Magic and all the Albums couldn't kept up the quality... In his 80’s prime, Tate pulled off performances like this one and better with apparent effortlessness. He was a virtuoso. The band still exists in various versions but hasn’t done anything close in quality to their 80’s work in decades. I think Tate performs still and it seems that he’s taken care of his health, but nobody can do a note-perfect “take hold of the flame” at 60. Nobody. It’s Physically impossible. But back in the day... I remember seeing grown men moved to tears by his performances. Queensryche isn’t as important as other active metal bands from their era like Priest or Maiden, but they had a very good run, wrote some epic songs and featured an all-time great, freakishly talented, unique vocalist.

jeff rosenberg, I saw them five times. The 80s rocked! Edit: She should give Mindcrime a listen. I saw that show, and the (weird) Livecrime concert.

Awsome. Queensryche! I was lucky enough to see these quite a few times in their prime!

I saw them open for Metallica in 1989. This is not going to be a popular response but... Queensrych was technically much better. Metallica was just loud. I was very impressed with them.

The Justice For All tour? Queenryches FIRST Operation Mindcrime tour? Saw the same show on that tour. You nailed it. I went for Metallica but was blown away hearing Geoff live. Became a fan that night.

@@GertBFrobe66 I immediately thought people were gonna start hating on me for that comment. I love both bands, In my opinion Queensrych just rocked. Thanks dude.

Tom that is the reason Queensryche didn't finish that tour with Metallica Geoff and the guys were showing them up. They had the same issue with Kiss.

"he knows how to use his tool". And it certainly looked like he was putting it in some funny places, going by the facial expressions you were making.😀 🤘

I loved her reactions! The first ones and I was just waiting for the good part to see her response. Priceless. Oh I so want to sing this again. Had no idea so many people appreciate it. Rob Halford so far is the only one I can't get yet.
