Ren Gill, a dynamic singer, guitarist and songwriter, was born in Wales. Known by his stage name, Ren, he came to attention on the pavements of bath where he played with an indie-pop band called Trick the Fox.
Chinchilla is a British singer-songwriter who describes her music as "kind of fiery soulful empowering pop”. She is best known for being the support act on the latest McFly tour in 2021. Another masterpiece composition from Ren! :) It sounds as if you haven't heard much of Ren's singing voice, so here are a few suggestions that highlight it: "Chalk Outlines" also featuring Chinchilla. Make sure it's the live version! "Man's World" - one of 3 songs sung while busking with Sam Tompkins. "An Englishman in New York" with his band, The Big Push. I've seen probably 100+ reactions to this song, and probably listened to it another 100 times. And someone seems to be cutting onions every time...weird. Obviously the content of the lyrics is emotional, and that is one thing. But this performance is gorgeous even without words. If this was in a language I didn't speak I feel like I would have the same reaction. It's such moving sounds.

I wasn't expecting Ren! You should check out his duets with Eden Nash as well. (Or one of my personal favorites Freckled Angels which was dedicated to his late friend Joe Hughes) His library is pretty diverse. If you want to see more singing than rap there's plenty to choose from. (I think you'd really enjoy his work with The Big Push)

Beth, in case you weren't aware: This song is about Ren dealing with his best friend ending his life by jumping from a bridge. They were both young at the time (early 20's) and Ren really struggled with what his life was without Joe. Ren also dealt with a lot of guilt as he got to the bridge about 5 minutes too late to save him and feels partly responsible.

Very glad you discovered this song to react to Beth. It is A very powerful song about grief and its effects. Ren is the Original "Bardcore Genre Bender" The Master Bard himself ( Shakespeare ) would have understood exactly where Ren was coming from. Ren isn't just a songwriter but rather a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it modern and relatable to all generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. A couple more heavily melodic tunes from Ren that have come out since you last reacted to him; Fred Again Mashup, a collection of 5 (?) formerly edm tracks merged into one acoustic performance, with beautiful, raw vocals, with simple but effective instrumentals and astatic. Back On 74/ Message In A Bottle Retake, Funk era harmonics with two excellent back up singers, a silent bassist, and Ren on electric. Falsetto for days. Frankly, it just sounds fun. Short rap splitting the two songs before Ren amazes you with his best impersonation of The Police. For Chinchilla, Fingers (live for Hunger TV), Astonishing performance, don't even bother trying to close your Jaw. Also check out her song 1:5, i'm pretty sure it's a live one take, but not 100% on that, in either case, it's a great performance, and a novel song. Ren is also dropping a new song late next week, from his upcoming album. I think i remember him previously stating that the next album would be more uplifting, and melodic, so maybe check that out as well. Edit: I meant to mention some of his busking sections, live street performances that will wow you. one with Sam Thomkins - Earned it/ Mans World/ Fallin, best of the three, and that's saying something, so, so good. Ren's Band, The Big Push - Wade in the Water/ Nina Simone/ Troubles so hard, insane soulful runs. and again with TBP - Shot the Sherriff/ Road to Zion/ Hip Hop, least impressive vocals out of all of these, but still a super fun performance of reggae, ska, and hip hop. This is one of those that you just wish you could have been there to see it live.

I would like to suggest and request you consider reacting to a song by Jack Jones - he is a very talented and gifted singer - a perfect song to react to is called "What are you doing the rest of your life" by Jack Jones (written by Michael Legrand) - Jack Jones was one or Frank Sinatra's and Tony Bennett's favorite singers ever!! He sings with Superb Tone, amazing intonation breath control and is a Master Vocalist with an amazing range!! You'd love his singing - trust me!

8:48 Beth just gave up and so did the camera! Aside from everything, the thing I really love is how methodically Ren chooses spaces for their acoustic qualities, often reverb or resonance, but here... chosen to "cut" cleanly. When you can do that, who needs mastering!?!?
