The off note on “blues” towards the start - pretty sure that was entirely on purpose! Sara likes to throw in those dissonant notes with the piano to catch you off guard sometimes

@@jonathangrau972 I agree. I listened to her and ignored the piano and that note fits in the phrase. It was the chord that clashed.
@mysticsmb Жыл бұрын
@@jonathangrau972 THANK YOU! Somebody gets it. Yes, the note is dead-on, it’s the chord that creates the dissonance-Sara showing some of her a cappella roots and love of close intervals. Those notes that Tara thinks Sara is flatting early on I believe were deliberate. I’m willing to bet they were intentionally deliberate to give a more haunting sound to the start of the song. A gifted songwriter like her doesn’t make mistakes like that so easily. I would love to ask her if she did it for effect.
@Ozymandi_as2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a good enough ear to say whether or not those were mistakes that she made, but they sounded so appropriate to the emotion of the moment, that I didn't care anyway. To be able to use the vulnerability of the live performance to make it even more immediate and meaningful is one the hallmarks of true artistry.

Man this brings back some memories for me. Got me tearing up a bit. A bit more than a decade ago I went on a cruise with my brother and parents and we spent a lot of evenings in the piano bar rather than the club or other bars. My brother and I were the youngest ones in there every time, I was 17 and my brother was 13, but nearly the whole bar would sing along with classic songs like this. It was such a good time. Cruises are pretty ‘meh’ overall but I loved hanging out in the piano bar at night with a whiskey and coke, a nice cigar, singing the night away with about 15 other people and a pianist. My dad exposed me and my brother to such a wide range of music, and I’m thankful for that.

Hey Tara! I've been watching your reactions and analyses of performances for a while now and love the personality and wisdom you put into them. I was also a bit confused by Sara's slips in this video so I did a little research and found three factors that may have contributed to it. First - Atlanta was city 16 of an 18 city tour, so her voice may have just been running a bit rough. Second, this seems to be the first tour on which she sang "Yellow Brick Road" - it's possible she hadn't gotten the arrangement completely committed to memory yet, at least to the point of mastery where she doesn't have to think about it anymore. Third, this tour was apparently her first solo tour! She said in interviews that touring solo for the first time was scary, so that could definitely impact the performance, though by city 16 this probably wasn't as much of a factor. Thanks for reacting to this video - definitely think the message about no one being perfect needs to be heard more! You're great!

The note wasn’t actually off. The chord it created with the piano was dissonant, and reviewer mistakenly assumed the note was bad. Not something one expects from a trained ear.

Thank you for your good reaction to this performance. Yes, she is an incredible singer. It is very encouraging that reactors, such as you, exist to give a professional point of view on various artists and I very much appreciate it. Although I am ancient - my musical preferences were established in the 1940 - 1960s I am always surprised at the talent which has emerged since then. I follow the careers of several young singers on KZbin and get a "warm fuzzy feeling" when they succeed in their chosen profession. I note you are still to discover one of my favourite singers, a young girl, Angelina Jordan, who won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 - she is now 13 years old. She can sing many musical genres - jazz, blues, soul, pop - and has the ability to identify the meotions in the lyrics of a song and communicate those emotions to the listener. If you point your browser to the websites listed, you will see what I mean about her versatility. age 8 - Summertime: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXad2eqnpanmMU age 9 - I put a spell on you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKipnaJ5hb2tedU age 13 - I have nothing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4XGp6mFa6dmf9E These are just three of the over 100 performances she has on KZbin. All the yummyness in music disappears if you chase the perfect note every - freaking - second. You gotta let your let your hair down every once in a while and just enjoy the moment. Otherwise you lose the joy in music. There's so much humanity and feeling in the "flaws" here and that's part of being a musician and part of connecting with your audience.
