However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel. “

I see some people saying that they hear screaming, but like all I hear is perfectly supported belting? So, I'm not sure what they're listening to. Also, I saw that someone said that covers are meant to enhance the original, but Sohyang destroyed it. I'd argue that she brought the song to even greater heights, to be completely honest. The original is extremely emotional, with a beautiful harmony and lyrics. Sohyang took that song, spun a gospel twist on it, and added amazing vocals to it. Not only that, but all that "noisy, unnecessary screaming" (still don't know what they're talking about) adds so much emotion and depth to this song. It adds this uplifting, reassuring atmosphere and general feel to the entire song, and all the power she brings just intensifies it. It makes this already extremely heartfelt and emotional song, into an emotional roller coaster. I don't know, maybe I'm putting too much thought into this. It just pains me to see all these random people insult her and her talent (that she's polished and refined and absolutely deserves) for no reason other than to drag her down. She's an extremely kind and humble person who shouldn't be receiving such hate.

You are very articulate and I agree with you! She is very special indeed. There is a fine line of screaming but she delivered well and 'made it her own'. Sadly there is always going to be hate when you put yourself out there, comes along with the 'job'. But it is better to not give in and show who you are and your capabilities. Focus on the good, the positive, because that is what matters. You can't please everyone. Just sing and show the world. It is her right and no one can take that away from her.

I watched this while I was traveling for work and I started crying sitting in my hotel room by myself and then you cried and I was like "me too girl!" She really brought out the genuineness of the song as well as bringing the house down. Such an amazing cover!

As an Alto, I can attest that is SO much more difficult to sing a very high note, in control, pianissimo. She's got great vocal control. Traditional Korean folk singers used to practice next to waterfalls & were said to achieve proficiency when you can be heard over the waterfall. Her rendition of "Arirang" is wonderful.

You are not alone in this. When I first heard this song (and So Hyang herself) last year. I was looping this song for 4 hours straight weeping with 2 big towels. Since then, this song has become my comfort song in daily life routine. Probably the 'I will lay me down' part got me. I heard the song when i was (for the countless of times) almost doing something very bad to myself. Since then this song has become my anti-self-harm mantra in my phone. (Let's not discuss my performance at the level of bathroom vocalist hehee..) This version shows perfectly the picture of my journey to recovery, all the dark days, all the harsh times, all the painful things which leave me barely hanging on to this world. Maybe I am reminding myself to become my own bridge from now on. Been rewatching this reaction for more than 10 times, i think I should leave a comment and compliment. ^^

What a beautiful reaction! "I believe in everything she sang." I think you have the best summary one can offer there. While Sohyang's vocal technique is out there for all to see, what matters the most to me is the emotional connection. This performance took me to a place in my heart I didn't know and had to cleanse myself with buckets of tears after watching her epic cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water. I really suggest Arirang Alone, it will absolutely make you cry because it made me even emotional that this performance. And to her performance of Where Are You (absolutely beautiful, you can really feel the pain in her voice and it gives me chills every single time). Also all the songs from King of Masked Singer: Dear Love, Hug Me, Breathe, Mona Lisa (in some performances she’s extremely sick, she had pneumonia at the time but she still killed it). Most of her full performances are on Vimeo, because some performances posted on KZbin are either cut or are interrupted with talking (especially I Am a Singer)
