This guy has something so many singers miss, emotion. Singing is the act of telling a story through melody. Telling a story without emotion is like eating food without flavor. You get the nourishment you need but the experience just leaves your brain. In this song you can feel his emotion. The longing and sadness mixed with resigned acceptance. He loves someone and wants them to love him back, but he knows they don't and doesn't hold that against them, so he lets them go. All he asks for is to make one final loving memory before he gives it up entirely.

There is some wisdom in the lyrics as well. Good job by writers Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin. Love the story where the inspiration is from. ”The idea for the song came to Reid while reading an article about a man arrested for getting drunk and shooting at his girlfriend's car. The judge asked him if he had learned anything, to which he replied, "I learned, Your Honor, that you can't make a woman love you if she don't." - wikipedia
