It is enlightening and impressive to hear someone so knowledgable about something that they can break a performance of it down so that even someone like me can not only understand everything that makes it wonderful but also enjoy it in much deeper ways that I never experienced, nor did I even know exist. Thank you.

Literally stole the thought out of my head. I was a band kid, but I always loved singing. I dont know all of the technical terms or proper techniques, but I know when I hear something special and she doesnt make people feel low brow when she explains things. I think its because she just loves music and really wants to help people understand the intricacies that she loves.

Male or female, if we live long enough we all eventually feel loss. The best that we can hope for is for it to be at the end of a long fulfilling life. Eventually there will come another day when you can smile, and eventually one where you can laugh and love again as you once did. Every woman makes you a different person, and it is the same for them. No one in a relationship is unchanged, and that is the thing to remember and look forward to.

This is a first listen for me as well. I love the emotion caught in the song. It's so authentic. It has longing, heartbreak, disgust, and hopelessness in it. All emotions you feel when you have loved someone who lead you on because they didn't want to see what the truth would do to you. I can feel it because I've been there.

I've actually never listened to him so this is a new one for me - and I think he's fantastic. The emotions and the fragility he conveys really tug at my heat strings. The end with the crying/sweat reminds me of a friend who complains that his "eyes are sweating!". It also reminds me of one of my favourite Alice Cooper ballads, I Never Cry. "It's just a heartache that got caught in my eye/And you know I never cry, I never cry"

I happened across Teddy three years ago and was floored by his, his….. damn everything about the way he sings! He has epic masterful control of his voice! The first time I heard him singing I wasn’t even looking at my phone and couldn’t believe that sound was emanating from him!! I just have no idea why this star isn’t being blasted on the air waves? When you want to sit on a comfy couch with a glass of (?) and mellow out? You play some Teddy! When you sing a song like you wrote it…..magic happens!!

Yes, Teddy Swims is his stage name. Swims is an acronym that stands for "Somebody Who Isn't Me Sometimes". It goes with his love for a variety of music genres. And I can attest that this guy is a class act, as I have had the opportunity to exchange personal text messages with him. This is one rabbit hole you have to swim through. 😜 May I suggest his cover of "Use Me" by Bill Withers?

I had just watched the video you're using from Mr. Swims after sampling a few other versions of this song. His was the first that got me from the intro to the the very last note. And I was in tears from an 'empathy' that he stirred up inside. Seeing your video next to his on the list I thought, "Oh this will be fun." I loved your analysis. It helped me to understand why I was so moved. As you said, it's as if the song was written for him. I'm going to find more by this artist. Since you asked for recommendations for other singers to analyze... it goes back quite a few years, but if you could find and listen to Jennifer Warnes doing "Prairie Melancholy" it would thrill me to no end. That song and the way she sings it is my 'go to' on nights when nothing else works to fill 'the hole in the heart.' Thanks very much.

You might consider listening to Shinedown doing their cover of Lynard Skynard's song "Simple Man". The original is one of my favorite songs of all time and Shinedown did a great job of making it their own while honoring the original. I appreciate your open mind and the way that you find things to love across diverse genera and styles. Keep up the good work.

Speaking of Bonnie Raitt, I'm going to recommend her version of "Feels Like Home" (one of Randy Newman's loveliest songs in what feels like the definitive version).

Lovely, silky soft voice. Sometimes NOT powering out a vocal is the best way to go. Lots of warmth and colour.

Since you’re learning beatboxing, I hope you’ll get around to analyzing some performances from the competitive beatbox scene eventually. I haven’t seen anyone analyze the singing component of their sounds in detail, and this year especially a lot of them focused on some really interesting singing techniques. I’d recommend Show-go - Jasmine if you haven’t seen it as a great one to look at, but there’s lots of other amazing ones.

@@lucas.tamaki Yeah, Berywam would also be great to see a reaction/analyses of here, especially since Elizabeth really likes acapella groups. I'm not always sure which specific performance/recording to suggest, since I usually see people reacting to their Asia Beatbox Championship showcase or fantasy battle against Beatbox House, but I think those might be a bit too long. But yeah, if anyone suggests any berywarm videos in the comments (or other high level beatboxers) I would definitely upvote them if they can get enough support behind them.

Teddy Swims does so many covers well - I really like his cover of Billie Eilish's "idontwannabeyouanymore" - a Teddy Bear is one of the Merch options on his website - he is an endearing person, warm and gentle; as someone below suggested, his cover of Chris Stapleton's Tennessee Whiskey is pretty awesome. Do you ever listen to pieces that don't feature a vocalist? I was thinking of Tina S - her guitar version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata or Steve Vai's "For the Love of God". Even if you didn't react to them, I think you would love seeing her in action at around 16 yrs of age - for your own viewing and listening pleasure.
