That ukelele you see him holding in this video is actually a full scale electric bass. This performance is, like, two octaves over his natural tone. He _literally_ had fangs. He was sarcasm incarnate. I dare assert he was effortlessly goth. I'd even wager that the accepted covenants of every vampire and lycan clan on earth had specific exceptions regarding interactions with Peter Steele. He was that lovable. Gone far, far too soon. Type O Negative is one of those bands that you either heard one and brushed off, or fell passionately in love with. You are correct, shows they played on or around Halloween were always amazing. People saying that love videos often don’t do them justice are spot on. Peter had nearly crippling stage fright, and got through it with alcohol. There were shows I saw them play where Peter had a bottle of wine and a bottle of vodka sitting on top of his bass cabinet and went back and forth between the two of them for the nearly 2 hours they were on stage sometimes.
@demoncleaner805 жыл бұрын
I brushed them off for years. I didn't listen to Type O Negative until about 2005-2006 or so. I was a real late bloomer. I think I had heard Christian Woman on late night rock radio in the 90's but they just never clicked with me. And then I became a huge fan. Wish it was sooner, because I never got a chance to see them live.
@ChopTheViking5 жыл бұрын
Lyset I know the feeling, I heard their Bloody Kisses stuff in the mid-90s and bought it because I enjoyed somewhat, but it wasn’t until the next year when I stumbled across the fake live album they did Origin of the Feces that cemented them as one of my probably 5 favorite bands. Amusingly, my sister saw the album and was like, “Isn’t this that band you listen to?” And she bought it, but HATED it because it was so different and so much heavier/faster than Bloody Kisses, so I traded her. Don’t regret it for a second.

One of my all time favorite bands. R.I.P. Peter Steele. I truly enjoy your videos Beth. I learn everytime I watch and love all the musicians you react to. Great job, keep up the awesome work you do. Your reactions, smiling face, pleasant demeanor, and explanation of how all our favorite singers acheive their own singing style is brilliant. A breath of fresh air on the internet. Thank you. I have been coming out of my shell and singing out loud more frequently now. I have always loved music of all kinds (my Dad would sing songs and hymns around the house, and sung at weddings and funerals when he was young), but am a metalhead at heart. I would recommend "Nettie" from Type O Negative. It's about his mom. Great song. Thankx again Beth.

I miss his voice terribly. That band has a sound that never sounds old to me. And I had the pleasure of seeing them live once. They were opening for Mötley Crüe. I had never really heard of them before that. And I fell in Love... their sound stuck with me long after the concert. I HAD to buy their CDs just to satisfy the need my brain had to hear them again. His was a special voice and a stage presence rarely seen. I hope you are at peace Peter... your fans love and miss you. Blessed Be, My Dark Prince.

I had the privilege of spending a few weeks with Peter many years ago. He sang a song for all of us, about 40 people. I was one of about 4 people who knew who he was but he brought tears to the eyes of most of the people there. No mic, no prep, nothing, just stood up and sang. I can't remember the exact song after all these years but it was an Amazing Grace type. The world lost a small piece of its soul with his passing.

Sadly Beth will never be able to see them at a Halloween party ever, since Pete died a few years ago (heart issues, which ran in his family).

My favorite band ever. RIP Peter. Also, I saw them perform this song live in January 1997 and they used the same "snow" machine. It was amazing.

"Nettie" would have been a better choice to hear the basso profundo range of his voice.
