You’ll probably really like her Long Pond Studio recordings that she does with Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner on her Folklore album. They talk about each song, give a frame of reference about what the songs about followed by them in the studio recording said song. Your reaction can include the discussion they have followed by the recording of the song, and you’ll love it! It’s the only album in which she does that.

@clansome Жыл бұрын
One thing that has to be taken into consideration is that Blank Space, Shake It Off, Style and a lot of the others of 1989 she has been singing live time and time again. As a result she has changed in the way that she sings the songs over the course of the last 9+ years. Folklore, the album, and Folklore the Long Pond Sessions, a Ducumentary where she sings all of the tracks in a very stripped back fashion, would be a great comparison as there is nowhere to hide when the instruments are taken away, not that there were many to start with tbh. EDIT The outro refrain, the Cyndi Lauper bit as you called it, when she sings this live, Taylor does the "Cyndi Lauper" harmony herself with her backing vocalists taking her line. In fact live the interchange between her and her backing singers is brilliant as they are so well matched that they can and do "step" into her lines all the time.

The Story Of Us vs The Story Of Us (Taylor's Version) 5. All Too Well vs All Too Well (Taylor's Version) 6. All Too Well vs All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) 7. Girl At Home vs Girl At Home (Taylor's Version) I find these songs so interesting and fun to compare in terms of production quality and Taylor's vocal maturity :)

Taylor is a master songwriter, performer, lyricist, super smart woman. I am very proud that she has done this. I know it came from a painful experience, but she herself has given wonderful interviews what you should listen to about her relationship with the songs that she wrote and what her experience was re-recording them and rediscovering them. She really loved the experience and she didn’t feel like she needed to imitate her self each song was its own unique moment

I've only heard a few of the 1989 Taylor's Version songs. I agree they are more polished, but I feel that the original more accurately captures her feeling or the place she was in life when she wrote these songs. The newer ones are great but she sounds like an older, wiser soul looking back/seeing things in a different light. I enjoyed the vulnerability of the originals but appreciate the strength/maturity in the new release.

It's just like trying to redo a photograph. The original captures a very specific moment in time. New ones can be great but they're just not the same. That said, kudos to her for staking her claim to her own music.

It's amazing to watch her current Eras tour on YT and see and hear 75 thousand people fill stadiums night after night ALL singing every single world of her songs!!! Taylor is brilliant! I always enjoyed her music and regarded her as a Pop genius, but I was never a CD carrying, concert going fan. I gravitated and landed more with singers like Dimash, Bocelli, Houston and Streisand. BUT, having learned much more about her as a result of this tour and listened to her albums, I have now become a huge FAN!! I listen to her albums getting ready for the gym each morning! She is the only pop star that I want to have albums from. Still regard DIMASH as my FAV singer of ALL Time and the kind of singing I favor, BUT Taylor, like Dimash, is a whole music genre almost unto her self, and I respect and appreciate her talent, discipline, live performance capabilities and the person she is very much!! Thanks as always for a great informative review!! P.S. the Wash Post wrote that she will earn 4.1 billion as a result of this tour and earns 10 to 13 million each night! Now this is a girl that resonates with the Universal laws of abundance I would say!! LOL!! :) :) So deserved!!

In a time when there are so many who spend all their time and efforts on earth bringing destruction and darkness, it is so wonderful to see Taylor, this person of Light, who spends all of her time and energy bringing so much love, light and joy to the world. Indeed she is a WONDER WOMAN !! 🙋🏻♂

Taylor Swift here in the Philippines is very popular. Her song and lyrics are amazing. She's very BIG artist no doubt 🤩
@MBella123 Жыл бұрын
I admire Taylor a lot because of how she was able to regain power of her masters. She was stolen, she was actually forbidden to perform her own songs which is absurd. I think the idea was to keep the songs as close as possible to the original ones, so she made subtle changes in production and of course her voice is now matured, so it’s gonna sound different

@@mayaxeno8211 She was forbidden before she got the right to re record her songs. That’s why she had to regain her masters
@musicfangirl7403 Жыл бұрын
Her songs were not stolen. Her master recordings were owned by Big Machine as per her contract. But, like many artists, she signed that contract when she was young and green. Once Big Machine had recouped their original investments in her and had made a fortune, she begged to buy back her masters. They would only sell them back one at a time as she put out new albums, so she chose to walk away and move to Universal. The betrayal came when BM sold them to Scooter Braun knowing that Taylor disliked him immensely. It’s very common for artists to fight for ownership of their original masters…the Beatles, Prince and George Michael have all fought hard. Taylor is the first one to “simply” re-record to reclaim ownership. It’s unprecedented and astonishing. My theory is that once she devalues the originals, she will be able to buy them back and own everything. And maybe rule the entire world LOL.

@@musicfangirl7403 Stolen is a figurative way of speaking, but even Taylor herself mentions her "stolen lullabies" in My Tears Ricochet
@musicfangirl7403 Жыл бұрын
Yes of course but it’s technically incorrect so it makes the situation sound like something it’s not. There is a lot of hate toward Taylor so it’s important to remind people that her fight is a common one among artists. She is just the first one to make such an enormous move to free herself. Her line about “stolen lullabies” is a little spiteful and I think a mistake on her part. Otherwise the song is a flawless expression of betrayal.

I would also recommend the Folklore Long Pond Sessions (full documentary, including "the lakes"). Loved your thoughtful and enthusiastic reaction! I would LOVE to see you guys react to all the versions and performances of All Too Well (10 Minute Version). There's the original lyric video, a short film she wrote/directed, a "Sad Girl Autumn" acoustic version (gorgeous!), and a performance on Saturday Night Live. There are multiple other live versions too but these are my top suggestions. I'm all in on any and all Taylor content.

Taylor wanted all of these recordings to be as authentic as possible as the original. She brought back all the same artists and producers for everything thus far, except I believe max Martin. I think he only came back for one song. Which is unfortunate because it had to do with money, but still those tracks sound very close to the originals. If she could make the delivery better she nailed it. I’m with you- I love the imperfections of her delivery. She’s really become a better singer over the years which is great. By this time a lot of artists lose range they once had when they were younger. Taylor has taken great care of her vocals and really become better at her craft on all levels.

I think one of the things that affect both versions is the time as well. Not only is the singer/songwriter finding the sound of the voice, it's also the fact that this song might have resonated with her 10 years ago but not anymore. One of the things I felt as a Swiftie is that a lot of the rerecorded songs for me, let me repeat that, FOR ME, don't have a lot of feeling. Which I get, I mean, you won't feel the same about a song you wrote at 18 that you do now but still
@MotherofDragons123 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the new version may sound smoother, more polished, because her voice has developed over time… but I also preferred the original version because the “imperfections” in her voice, how she sounds like she’s reaching for certain notes, give the song that “young and reckless” feel.

p.s. i watched a little of her Reputation tour, and a lot of her Eras tour and her voice is MUCH more secure, smooth, full and warmer now....I am only speculating but she does a great than 40 set show night after night - usually 3 nights in a row before a day off, and being the consummate pro that she is knowing the vocal stamina this show would take, I'm bet she didn't "wing it" and think oh lest see if my voice lasts for 3.5 hours night after night with no days off in between; I'm sure she trained to prepare for these demanding shows....honestly I am blown away to see this tour and in wonderment as to how her voice, how any singers voice, can hold up singing as much as she does night after night like this....and she seems totally at ease, and completely confident at every level, just sure of her voice and it's endurance abilities!! I did hear that she does not talk before or after each show, smart girl!!

For me, the difference or growth in Taylor's voice is less noticeable in her studio recordings (she's always had great engineering and production) and most noticeable in her live performances. I hear incredible improvement in her live singing. Taylor's pitch and consistency of tone, in addition to her singing technique, have improved by leaps and bounds. (And she was never bad!) Taylor knows her voice, her strengths, and knows how to make the most of them--even when performing live. When you add in Taylor's songwriting genius, it's easy to understand why she's breaking all records and blazing new trails in the music industry.

Fun little fact: RM of BTS’ song Change pt. 2 (probably not one you would want to react on here, it’s not as family friendly) but the vocals on that track were from the demo. He shared that he tried recording it so many times and couldn’t get over the demo he had recorded and ended up using the demo for the track on his album Indigo.

So Enchanted - the Taylor's version feels like it was sung by a different person lol. Otherwise, in terms of production choices she changed up Style, All too well. Other amazing songs that weren't singles - Exile (long pond version), All you had to do was Stay, Cornelia Street (live performance in Paris is great). Also yes, you're right, songs like blank space and style hit harder because if the "strain" / naivete of the original. And yes, for a few songs hardcore fans are finding changes in the production choices they just can't reconcile with in the newer versions and they are streaming the OGs of those, but by and large people are shifting, especially since the Taylors versions are helping people rediscover the non singles.

I haven't seen anyone take into account the sheer number of times Taylor has performed some of these songs between the OG and the new release. I mean how many times has she sung this song has to factor in to the new recordings. From never having sung it live to having sung it how many thousand times in a performance? The versions on the new release sound like the tour versions to me.

Maybe it’s because I‘m listening to Dimash so much, who changes things up a lot - but I don’t really hear a real difference between both versions. 😅 Her lyrics are always crazy creative and she writes some of the best melodies. But this song needs to change a little more for my taste. Maybe it‘s the range… 😉😬😅 Exile on the other hand…omg that one is somehow unbelievably gripping. ❤

She wants people who want to license the song for use in [whatever- commercial, soundtrack, etc] to use the one she fully owns. If the versions are too different, there’s more of a choice for them about which version they might use for artistic reasons and the owner of the others has more wiggle room to negotiate. If they’re essentially the same, but the new one’s maybe a little cleaner, then they’re going to go with using her version so that she wants to work with them in the future. She can always do bigger variations live and release a live album (or video, or movie) with those variants. The things that are really for the fans in the new versions are the new art, any posters (whatever) that might be bundled in, and the songs from the vault.

I'm not crazy about TS for the same reasons that most people love her. I really don't like her voice, especially its timbre and register changes. (Ok, just hear me out. I'm not bashing her. It's just not a pleasant sound for me personally.) As for her writing, I don't think it's a big deal that she writes one-octave songs anybody can sing along to. That's just common sense if you're a commercial artist...and there's a large audience these days for women's power anthems so wouldn't she do some of of those? What I *don't* like is that she's considered some sort of genius for reclaiming her work, when it was actually Prince who broke that barrier for artists decades ago. Okay, now on to what I really *do* like and respect about TS. Her lyrics are genius for relaying her life experiences in a realistic conversational tone *inside* of the melody. In this way, she reminds me Joni Mitchell, a truly unique and legendary lyricist and story-teller. Taylor's got that part in spades.
