TAYLOR SWIFT | In Conversation With… | TIFF 2022

Taylor Swift is a creative powerhouse. Singer, songwriter, producer, actor, director - this multi-hyphenate artist is the only woman in history to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year three times, tying for the most wins by any artist (alongside Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon), as well as earning prizes in eight other categories. In addition to music, Swift has long been a visual storyteller. From influencing the edits of her music videos, to writing the treatments herself and then making the jump to director, she has defined a distinct style that extends out of her songwriting. In 2021, she released re-recordings of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version), her acclaimed second and fourth albums, as an act of reclamation and creative empowerment. The latter release was followed by All Too Well: The Short Film, which she directed, wrote, produced, and appeared in. Swift joins TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey for the first-ever screening of All Too Well: The Short Film on 35mm, and to discuss filmmaking and the visual aspects of her music.

Taylor her self talks about her great lows and insecurities. It is her humanness and willingness to speak about it that I think that makes her so real. It is being real" that keeps her liked as she writes and sings about it...people I think starve for someone to be real and may not even know it until they actually here someone doing so. The last thing she would want is to be put on on pedestal. Though I know how easy that is to do. Taylor has far surpassed those you listed. At no point did any of those women dominate, and do so for over a decade. Madonna was closest, but the sun shown on her for maybe 6 years, and then she’s spent the rest of her career trying to grab the public’s attention with antics like masturbating on stage. She by no means can write like Taylor, isn’t a true multi instrumentalist, never was as good to fans, and just isn’t even in the same parking lot, much less stadium. Taylor getting stronger with just a few years to make it 20+ years on top. In the history of the music industry, never has anyone occupied the top 10 spots on billboard. Think of all the artists and bands from Elvis to The Beatles to name it, and Taylor has accomplished more than any of them.
