I was a voice major 20 years ago in college, and haven’t really trained my voice since then. I found your channel and OMG, it’s like I’m falling in love with voice training all over again!!! I had my thyroid removed a couple of years ago, and had some vocal damage from that surgery. I’m excited to see if I can strengthen my voice back to what it used to be using your exercises!

I’m watching this because not only do I want to learn how to sing, but from not being a loud person or very confident kid growing up, my vocals have suffered. I’ve had a deep voice since middle school, and every since puberty, suffered voice cracks growing up. Even now, I occasionally have voice breaks or feel my vocal chords just give up mid sentence or I just run out of breath/control over my voice quickly. I will now be implementing these tips for my everyday speech and overall vocals. Thank you Victoria!

I’ve lately noticed a ‘warble’ when I sing, partly from the medicine I have to take because of my physical disabilities, and partly because I can’t practice like I used to because of the pain from the aforementioned disabilities. It's not hurting, just not quiet freely. I wonder if it's normal to feel discomfort doing vocal exercises, because everyone says NO FEELING IN YOUR THROAT

Hi, so when actually singing, do we not close the folds as hard as in these exercices? I feel like when i sing with a more soft closure it sounds way better. And does it depend on the genra? Right now i am singing demons by imagine dragons. Do we manipulate the closure depending on what we sing?
@Victoria-Victorious Жыл бұрын
Yes, the degree of vocal fold closure depends on the sound that you want. The exercises in this video are for efficient (medium) closure, not hard closure. Try experimenting with different degrees of closure and see how it affects your sound!

How do I stop automatically adding fry when my glottal onset?? I don’t know why I do this. Maybe it’s from growing up hearing so many pop singers doing it?? It’s so frustrating, I sound so dumb 😂😂
@Victoria-VictoriousАй бұрын
I would try starting with a "silent H" or a "B" to your vowel onsets. Also, remember that the exercises in this video are with a light glottal to help with vocal fold closure. You may be overdoing the glottal. We use glottals on words that start with vowels in English but it's never a hard glottal.

Hello! Thankyou for this video, im finding this and many other of your videos extremely helpful. I do have a question though, i have a weak voice i think as i often find singing painful in a burning kind of way. I was wondering if these exercises are meant to cause discomfort that will go away with practice? or am i doing something wrong?
@Victoria-Victorious9 ай бұрын
No, these exercises should not cause discomfort. You may be squeezing your vocal folds and tightening your throat. See my playlist on Throat Tension.

@@Victoria-Victorious I just thought id respond back and say I have been watching more of your technique videos, and have been able to prevent my throat getting sore, though it still seems to get quite hot/warm, is this okay? Sorry to bother! 😅
@Victoria-Victorious9 ай бұрын
It’s hard to say because I don’t know what you feel. Offhand, “hot” does not seem right, but “warm” could be possible from just exercising your voice and blood flow. I say it’s more a question of whether you feel tight and uncomfortable, making you force and push.

The vocal folds are made of mucosa they can’t get strengthened. Now, if we’re talking about the TA and CT muscles, that’s a different story. Strengthening the arytenoid will help with bringing a more modal production of sound up higher. Though I have to say, love your usage of the “e vowel”. I use the e-vowel with students a lot.
@Victoria-Victorious Жыл бұрын
I did NOT say that we are strengthening the vocal folds. I made that very clear in the beginning of the video. I said we are strengthening coordination.

I've been doing these exercises after I warm up for about a week now, and they seem to leave my voice sounding worn out, full of involuntary fry, and with pitch that becomes yodelly and hard to control. Extra hydration helps, but doesn't completely prevent these symptoms. Is this normal?
@Victoria-VictoriousАй бұрын
No, this should not happen with any exercise. Without seeing or hearing you, I am assuming that you are overdoing it and squeezing your vocal folds.

@Victoria-Victorious Жыл бұрын
A light glottal is often difficult to hear (as opposed to a heavier glottal) and is used all of the time for expression, style or as a training tool. There is a difference between Exercise 1 and 3 (balanced onset). You can learn more here: Vocal Onset - the FIRST IMPRESSION OF YOUR SINGING! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHWcZKyhobRsr6c

Hi Victoria! I'm interested in your program. I found your videos yesterday and I'm addicted to them. I have question about my voice type. I've been told I'm soprano, but I don't reach very high notes (could be lack of training but not sure), and feel more comfortable with low tones. When I go to the link, it asks me to choose a voice type. What should I do?
@Victoria-Victorious Жыл бұрын
In answer to your question, each program covers 2 1/2 octaves in range. If singers are not sure of their voice type, I recommend ordering alto/mezzo-soprano for women and bass/baritone for men, especially for beginners. That is for lower to medium voice types, so unless you consider your voice to be high, this should work. If not, you have 30 days to switch to the higher voice category.
