I've said this before and I'll say it again... A 1965 song written by Paul Simon re-imagined by Disturbed in 2015; datz 50 years!! For me, this is by far the best song these past 5 years!! This song literally ambushes you... catches everyone by surprise! The powerhouse vocals, the amazing arrangement, etc... just a great song reimagined by a Heavy Metal band... done right!!

Notice the boat of musicians at the end of the video crossing the river to the people on shore with sheet music in hand. They need each other to end the silence with music. Music is the universal language as BTS is proving at the moment while singing/writing lyrics in Korean with a world wide audience listening. Good Music crosses the language barrier. Opera goers have known this for decades. LOL

David Draiman was classically trained to be a cantor in a Synagogue throughout his school years, so he is immersed in feeling what it’s like to sing to god. He has a 3 octave plus 4 note range and profound vocal control. He’s now in his mid 40’s and is married with a child...so he’s been through life. When Paul Simon wrote the song in 1961 and performed it acoustically, it was a flop, but their manager add 1960’s folk/rock elements. So a 21 year old song writer and mature men who perform this song will be singing from a different perspective. People have said that Paul Simon warned us about alienation from other people, and Disturbed performed this in a way that shows us what happens when we don’t heed the warning. The video showed hope at the end. It seems like everyone gets very deep emotional responses from this cover. It’s a song for our time now. Speak to one another and don’t just talk (or text). Please actually listen - don’t just hear. Stay connected to one another and don’t look for the truth in shiny or superficial things. Deep huh? I’m glad you listened!

I love Simon and Garfunkel, who originally recorded and released this song. I grew up listening to them since my mom's a huge fan of theirs. That said I love Disturbed's cover. His voice is powerful but totally in control. He makes this song take on a different tone and meaning in a way.

Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings 😌 I always feel this song is like an amazing rollercoaster ride, slowly heading to the top, then almost crashing to the bottom...

Originally created in the 1960's this epic song can apply to any era and still be very relevant. A lot of people make the solid argument that it refers to our era's obsession with tech and the fact that we seem to be losing the ability to talk and listen to one another (quick to escalate a disagreement into an argument). My opinion: I see it as a representation of the pain too many people have felt in America, especially over the course of the last year. The rage in the song is directed towards the silence coming from lawmakers, the people who are actually in a position to make change but do nothing but send their 'thoughts and prayers'. As it builds to it's crescendo it feels like it is issuing a challenge to everyone who feels this same frustration. The challenge is to refuse to be silent and to let your voices be heard (Nov. 3 elections). Please feel free to share your interpretation. BTW, I loved your reaction. Keep up the great work!

First, understanding that this song was originally written in the 60s, it becomes hard to have a proper frame of reference. I define the Sound of Silence = the noise that is created when effective communication is disrupted between people. This disruption can take many forms. lack of education, technological distractions, prejudices, ego, etc. (AKA not just tech obsession). So the song starts with him talking to darkness (depression?) again. While he was sleeping , he dreamed a vision (what that vision is is a little unclear) and then went out into the world (on old cobblestone streets) in bad weather (turn collar to the cold and damp) to share his vision. But he saw a neon light (television in the 60s and cell phones in 00s?) that was causing people to converse less with one another. People started talking without speaking (saying pointless things like gossiping or catch phrases from TV shows) and hearing without listening (in one ear and out the other or disregarding someone's comment because of who they are instead of what they are actually saying). This breakdown in interpersonal communication grew (like cancer), caused his words about his vision to not be shared (like silent raindrops fell) and joined the multitude of lost visions and ideas (echo into the well of silence). Now people "worship" tech so much that they miss the simple truths (words of the prophets) that are all around them (on subway wall or slums). People would rather be "entertained" than "educated". Now fast-forward to today, and we see Distrubed's cover with much more angst and frustration at not listening to the warning given nearly 60 years ago.

Your emotions are great to see but the Lyrics are the story behind the Vocals! David is a Terrific Singer and yes his facial expressions can scare you with these lyrics! But . . . without these 1960's lyrics the vocals would be silent! Read the lyrics again and you'll see what I mean! This song is as relevant today as it was then but with very different reasons! Back then it was about technology like Neon lights now it's about Social Media!
