Thanks for reacting this wonderful Cover , Coach! God bless. Katrina Velarde made that “ Somewhere Over the Rainbow “ a wonderful jazz/ blues with her awesome unique style !You need to hear it because she made my “ Rainbow “ never the same bland , girlish music the same again.... My beloved Filipinos... their coaches from birth are the world’s best singers... and I just realize that when you said it... through the music you hear in the neighborhood. I used to think they don’t have originality because to have a personal Coach is so expensive and who can afford that when you can hardly even afford to buy a soda? But then , when they learn... their natural musical artistry just appears, and the music passion in our hearts awakens with our own styles ... and so the song might be someone else’s but the style is them , thus becoming one ,,, which makes wonderful music , like these.... it’s really like a diamond in the rough . When you ask a Filipino... like Marcelito Pomoy ( great example) who lived in the streets since the age of 5 or 6 yrs old just to survive...” who is your vocal trainer?” before that show “ Tawag ng Tanghalan” he looks at you blankly because aside from just listening to the neighbor’s blazing stereo or the music in the jeepneys and streets,,, he didn’t even have Karaoke ... I often wondered why homes, when they play their stereo are so loud that the whole neighborhood can hear.., but now I realize it’s to share the music to everyone in the neighborhood , who wants to listen but can’t even afford a transistor radio in their homes. And so the kids who plays in street, or the students who goes to school in the mornings hears those wonderful songs from somewhere and by the time you realize, your brain had been imprinted with that wonderful song. That’s why before, we dontbknow that singer... just the song.,. Thanks for this reaction, my heart woke up to appreciate my beloved country’s ways! In the poor areas ,.. the music in the air coming from some middle class neighbors are the only positives in their lives... kids as young / younger than the TNT Boys when they started , belts out pitches and notes you wouldn’t believe ... Francis Conception of thevTNat Boys is a great example... he was singing when he was three , I saw a vid of him when he was 4 or 5... they were 7 in his family , very poor but with perseverance positive attitude, their voices are their salvation to help their parents survive at a very young age! Love your Vlog, Coach ... thank you for appreciating our Filipino ways. We can leave our beloved homeland but we never forget to provide our parents and who we left behind...so yes, we have something in common. God bless, and Peace! You are welcome to visit our country !

Your speech about having lower voice 😍 I wish I knew that when I was younger! There was a time when Jaya was at the peak of her career, I was a little girl of 5 and I used to listen and sing along to her songs several times a week but then millenium came and the influence of US Pop dominated the media here. It was hard to sing in the same range and pitch as Britney or Mariah or Christina Aguilera. Then in my 3rd grade I remember cleaning the classroom with some groupmates and I was singing when classmate a commented in a disappointed way that I have deep, full voice like Jaya. He then mimicked my voice and had the others laughing. Me being young then and not really appreciating music in different forms, made me feel embarassed with the voice that I had. So I tried to change my voice over the years and was never convinced of my own tone. I resumed singing karaoke only in my college years and only around people who I know won't judge my voice 😅 That story aside, it is good to hear your side about how your country differs from ours when it comes to music. For people who have deep love for music, I guess they would appreciate living here although it's hard to make it big in the music industry as the competition is tighter. We often say, "Filipinos are the hardest audience to please/impress with singing." But I guess that was then. Good thing the media has evolved, Filipinos are getting more exposed with more genres and different styles of singing rather than the *Diva-ish* ones (is that even a word? Lmao) and platforms such as KZbin exist now which enables everyone to make a name for themselves should they choose to. Thanks for reacting to KZ and Jaya (we pronounce J like american english so it's Jah-yah). I don't mind the talkative bits, those inputs are welcome to this viewer 😊

So much souls of this performance and i agree that you doesn't have to belt most of the time to prove that you are a good singer or artist and that's what exactly kz said before when she meet jessie j on the show "singer". Kz doesn't went through on throat surgery but she went through a biopsy instead 'cause she was scared to undergo on surgery to think that she might couldn't sing again.

What I love about this combo is that both of them have reason to be intimidated by the other. Jaya is JAYA. She has honed her craft, she has solidified her place, she has NOTHING to prove. KZ is a trend setter. She has fought her way through the industry but compared to JAYA, she's NEW. Through this, you can see neither of them competing in the sense that they are robbing each other. They are SO GOOD at what they do - individually. When you put them together, its BEYOND. BEYOND.

"Her first single, "If You Leave Me Now", was a hit in the dance clubs and was subsequently released to Top 40 radio. It eventually peaked at number 44 in February 1990 and remained in the Top 100 pop singles chart for 26 weeks, an unusually long chart run for a single that peaked outside the Top 40.
