to jest po prostu genialne, tak w kompozycji odpowiadającej słowom pieśni Symeona, jak i w wykonaniu. Piękno samo w sobie. Dziękuję bardzo. Od wczoraj słucham wielokrotnie i niemal płaczę...

At the end, that G♯ on the descending line in the Soprano just kills me every time, how beautiful and unexpected it is. Tremendous singing as always!

me ocurrió lo mismo, me llamo muchísimo la atención, pero que bonito suena. Me encanta el timbre del conjunto, particularmente el timbre de la primera soprano.

Your ensemble delivered a truly splendid performance! What makes this piece even more remarkable is the boldness of the composer in choosing to write in such a deeply traditional style. In an era where many modern composers shy away from such approaches for fear of seeming derivative, this work stands out as both authentic and audacious. It shows that there is still immense power and beauty in this method of composition, and I deeply admire how skillfully it was crafted. Bravo to both the composer and your incredible voices for bringing this extraordinary music to life!

It's Holst, so it's not like it's recent or contemporary (he was from the 1800s).
@francolupo232 ай бұрын
@@jamcam9 Thank you for the opportunity to clarify. My comment was about the style evoking a much earlier period than Holst’s time. Though Holst passed away in 1934, the piece seems to reflect musical traditions from well before his era, centuries earlier, in fact.

Amazing! This is almost as good as that peerless performance of Arvo Part's 'Nunc Dimittis' by an earlier iteration of Voces 8. Holst was recently BBC R3's composer of the week, but this marvellous setting wasn't included as far as I remember - when mediocre things were. A (larger-sized) Tenebrae rehearsal choir can be found on KZbin, doing the same piece, and doing it well. But the sound quality of this recording is so good, and the singing just so perfect.

The words spoken by Simeon (Shimon) in the Temple courts when Mary and Joseph brought the newborn Jesus to the Temple. The elderly, pious Jew had been promised by God that he would not die until he had seen the expected Messiah of Israel, so he hung out in the Temple, anxiously waiting for the child to appear. God revealed to him the identity of Jesus at sight, and Simeon prophesied to the parents about the baby's foretold destiny. (You can read more of his words in the Gospel.) Here he's saying to God, "OK, you kept your word, I've seen him, and now you can let me go."
