Kate and EJ blasting out those high octaves over and over absolutely gives me life!

Anytime I see a video with them I just find it crazy how they literally sound the exact same irl. I got to see them live a couple years back, just remarkable.

7 years or 7 days, Voctave is Voctave which is incredible (and goofy). One of my friends did a live interview with Tiffany that started after 11pm her time. You could tell she was tired but that smile never faded. I have seen many interviews but Tiffany had to be one of the best. She is a bright spot in this world and yes, she is super goofy. She through professionalism out the window and was just herself and I loved every second of it. If you're thinking of doing interviews ever, I highly recommend you contact her. You wont regret it.

A cappella, they are definitely in a category there own, if you haven’t heard their version of Mary did you know with the writer of the song Mark Lowry I would love to see you react to it . They are always good but to sing it with the author is quite special! Your friend, low bass Kenneth

I agree! Voctave's "Mary Did You Know " with Mark Lowry is my absolute favorite version of this song. (And I have listened to/watched many different recordings!) I would love for you to react to it, Jen!

The goofy side is so very evident in their live shows. I hope you do get to see them live at some point. Because Voctave is a “side gig” for these folks, I’m not sure a tour overseas is in the cards, but I hope for your sake it is. The juxtaposition of the hilarious live show (Kurt is comedy gold) and the stunning vocals makes for a great show. Cheers 🥂 Happy Holidays!

Your low notes are getting so much better. EJ's voice is so distinctive and I love it. Tiffany was the perfect voice to lead this. The bass was out of this world too. Great analysis Jen

One of my favorite things about Voctave is despite their larger group size compared to most other a cappella groups, they are so in-tune with each other! Which is definitely key! I guess them hanging out with each other pretty often during off-time of their normal jobs helped a lot lol

Hey Jen! The hints of "Hellfire" accompanying Carol of the Bells is hauntingly beautiful! Thanks for pulling some of us "Ebinezers" kicking and screaming into the season.

Jennifer! Oh my! Love the penguin? with a Santa hat on. Cute! Voctave ... somehow I feel like I've heard this one before. I recall that intro, so this might be one I've already listened to. I'll pretend I haven't. 😁 Oh wow ... a D6 and you still went there! With all the low note practice you've been doing you still have those high notes! This one was awesome and as you say the ending is fun! The one holding her ears at 14:30 because of that piercing high note! And that one with the cheeky cell phone! Great reaction and analysis as always Jen. 😊

I also find it interesting how the octave doubling of the highest parts can make it sound like belting. It sounded like a belt at the beginning and particular the end when Kate and EJ are just screaming that highest note.

Thank you Jennifer, this was a fun reaction! I love the fun in this arrangement. Jamey did a beautiful job meshing the two songs together. And i also loved how much fun they had with this song. They do a few inside one of their houses that are all light hearted, like “Snow” “Jingle Bells” & “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch”. I will agree with a couple other recommendations tho. “Mary Did You Know” is a wonderful rendition by the original artist and lyricist for the song, Mark Lowry. Voctave basically provides the vocal orchestral backup but does so beautifully! I heard Mark in an interview say he never imagined his song could sound so good! Another is “Where Are You Christmas?” Which you will need tissues for because I promise you will cry. Ashley does a beautiful job singing this with her 4 year old son Gael. It would melt the Grinch’s heart for sure if he heard this arrangement. Lastly “The Christmas Song” with Drew taking the lead. His voice is like velvet, so smooth in this song, and the arrangement by Jamey is again fabulous! I look forward to hearing more Christmas & Voctave selections! Have a happy Holiday season & Merry Chrismas.🎄☃️🎁🎅🏼

Jen, I love your channel! I'm an "old," and sang first tenor in a university vocal jazz ensemble in the dark days pre-"Glee" and "Pitch Perfect" and "Sing-Off." I transport you to a time that the great pioneers of the a capella world sang advertising jingles to pay the bills. The Modernaires, Manhattan Transfer, the Hi-Los, and my personal favorites, Singers Unlimited. This group in particular pioneered what is modern ensemble a capella. They put out literally four albums of the stuff, long before anyone else was doing anything even close. (Other than an occasional song or two from Manhattan Transfer or the Four Freshmen, but they were outliers). Anyway, the four members of Singers Unlimited were Len Dresslaar, bass (also the Jolly Green Giant in advertisements); Don Shelton, tenor; Gene Puerling (also the vocal arranger, and having penned many commercially available SATB vocal jazz charts as well), and Bonnie Herman, soprano, the original voice for the State Farm Insurance jingle ("Like a good neighbor,...") here in the states. Their a capella stuff is nothing short of astonishing.

Huh. This is the first time you can really hear that Kate is definitely in whistle tone when she goes up into her coloratura register. It's not easy to hear on an "ah" with nice vibrato. But that "ee" sounds makes it clear her vocal chords are more pinched up there. It would be impossible to sing full head voice up there on an "ee" vowel, so she can't blend it as well.
@ZipplyZane6 ай бұрын
The way you say "Voctave" sounds fine. It's just an accent thing. They have the COT/CAUGHT merger, pronouning those two words exactly the same. He also will say "Ah-ctave." I say you should pronounce it however you would normally pronounce "octave" but with a V on front. If anyone in the group doesnt' have the COT/CAUGHT merger, I'm sure they say it the way you do.

Oh, way to go! You got a tiny bit of subharmonics trying to get that low D. You did a vocal fry while your modal voice was sing the octave higher.
