I love how all the Geoff's get along, the side smiles, encouraging looks and all. Plus, the Geoff to Geoff's far left was having a great time with his "dance" moves. A patron at a higher tier than me said Geoff implied that far left (right to us) Geoff may have been a little drunk that day. He and Kathy did this video in five hours. The venue was very expensive, and he didn't want to go over and have to pay an additional fee. Great reaction, Jen!!!

I forget who it is, but in a comment in an earlier Geoff video they gave a very detailed and compelling explanation to which Geoff is which in his videos and why....and obviously Daryl is Daryl. I think they based it off of Way Down when they had name tags. But I believe, based on their analysis, that farthest right in this video is Jeff. Apparently, he is the funny, goofy one. 😆

​@DennisKovacich Those were definitely subs, you can match the notes with other techniques for sure but the difference is in how it sounds with that texture and resonance.

@@MikeBass4456, I haven’t learned any special techniques, and have had no training or coaching of any kind. I just know that songs like his Sixteen Tons that he said was all chest voice I can sing along with. I assume when he goes too low for me it’s usually subharmonic.

​​@@DennisKovacich in 16 tons he goes down to F1/G1(I don't remember exactly). This is very near the end of his chest voice. If you are able to reach a D1 you are either a one in a million contra contra bass or you are unknowingly slipping into a chest-fry which could still sound resonant. Try sliding down from a high note all the way to the bottom of your range and see if you could do it continuously.

"Raising the sound" chord is amazing, with the bass going up instead of down. And even then it comes ramped in with a delay to complete building in tension. Not many reactors mention it, but every one of them has their eyes go wide open!! What a masterpiece. And that arrangement, vocals AND instrumentation! Thanks for the singing insights, very good demonstration. Those pauses!!!!

Thanks for this reaction to Geoff's epic Christmas release. I have run out of superlatives! A five octave vocal range is a powerful thing. I enjoy the way Geoff arranges music nearly as much as his vocals. Judging by his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage!

I love the latter middle section where the surprising harmonies are so special, not the typical chord structure one hears in this song! Very lush! (I always love that about his arrangements!) All the quakes were Daryll - he decided it was time he had a real lead - just to shake things up. I think the power of this version and the destruction of the bells on the cover art may be a nod to the war-weary Ukraine from where the carol originates - a Christmas rallying carol perhaps?
