I own the 500Ds Euro 4 for 1,5 years. Satisfied with it and enjoying commuting or traveling. And it was almost 1500 euros cheaper than the Honda. Better brakes and suspension, more playful engine, and the full traveling equipment with the aluminum cases. Since I do not intend to sell it soon, I think it was a better choice for me. 10.000 km without any issue so far. Greetings from Greece!

Well after 4 years of ownership I don’t think that CB500X is that much better. It is not made in Japan. Especially now compared to the 525DSX. It is not just the VFM anymore. If you like the Honda, buy the Honda. If you like the Voge, take the Voge. What makes you to want to ride more! I don’t care for the manufacturer. I’m not a fanatic of any firm. Just sayin’…

Hi Mark hope you're well. Great review and progress is clearly being made.There are many plus points on this Voge but unfortunately the major disadvantage is the 3k service intervals. If you bought the cb500x it would of course be £600 more expensive but with the Honda needing to be serviced twice up to 16k miles compared to the Voge's five times and the undoubtedly higher residual value of the Honda three years later the Chinese bike would be the more expensive option. It's not quite the bargain it seems at first.
@hazwalk2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough point but I think the service on the Honda is at least double that of the voge.
@nigelwyatt14082 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. With the chinese trying to get into the market 3k service intervals just aren't going to cut it. As Mark says in his video the engine is similiar to the CB500 engine so why would it need servicing every 3k?

In Greece, you would need more than 1500€ for a CB500X with the amount of equipment the Voge 500DS has, which is quite a big difference for a bike which is extremely similar. As for the service intervals, the CB500X is every 6000 kilometers and the Voge 500DS is every 5000 kilometers. And of course, the parts for the Honda are more expensive. The CB500X has been proven reliable and that is something that the Voge 500DS has to prove for itself in the coming years.

An excellent review. Thanks. At last - another rider at my height and weight. Loved the way you covered its handleability and comfort. I'm looking for a larger cc middleweight companion for my 125 Michigan cruiser. Questions, if I may - did you play with the screen height? If so, did it make much difference to wind deflection? Could I run a handlebar mounted sat. nav. from the usb port? Finally, is the 'road' version just about the same bike? I only want it for standard road riding. Many thanks.

Hi I always put the screens in the high position and it was fine ,yes you could easily run a sat nav from the USB ....also have a look at the Honda cb500x which this is based on ..and not much difference between this and the road version really apart from the wheels and it might be taller Best regards mark

Another interesting motorcycle of the same category is the colove 500x (known as macbor montana xr5 in Spain, Bristol/Brixx venturi 500 in Asia and Daytona Maverick 500 in Greece where i live and Romania). It uses the same engine made by Loncin, has kyb inverted forks and rear suspension (fully adjustable), switchable abs by bosch, efi by Bosch, nissin brakes, and tons of standard equipment. I have been owning it for the past 4 months, for daily commuting and lots of highway (currently at 4000km). I am very pleased with the motorcycle so far. If you are gentle with the throttle, you can travel @100km on 6th gear consuming 3,5l/100km. It would be a great choice for anyone that has access to it, and wants a middle capacity do-it-all motorcycle. Have a nice day!

The first adventure I had was finding the dealership. Spent a good twenty mins going round in circles. Not the easiest place to find if you're not a local. Looks like amazing value for money compared to the competition, though, as I'm about the same height as you, I found it a little too tall and top heavy for me. Perhaps the mag wheel version would be a better option for those of us who are vertically challenged. Personally I would choose it over the Benelli or the CF Moto which would have to be it's main competitors. I'd like to see the Chinese manufacturers turn up a Honda CrF300 copy for a bit less than 4k. I can only live in hope. Keep up the good work...

Horn buttons should always be in the correct position - looking at you Honda, you really should sack your stylists. Well done Voge you are making it more difficult for established manufacturers to continue to screw their customers.

Hello! Bought this as my first bike. What I have experienced woth this was at first this was a very good beginners bike (for me) as it was very easy to handle. U-turns is very easy compared to the school bikes I rode before getting my license, crawl speed is easy, good sitting position, excellent acceleration and smooth on uneven roads and surfaces. The bike sounds aggressive and playful and it is as I discovered fun to ride on the sideroads as it is aggressive and sport like in the turns. When you just need a nice ride it's also comfortable and you can use higher gears for touring and thus comfortable on the highway. This summer I took my Voge out on a fishing trip in the woods and the offroad capabilities was pleasant enough but the foot pegs is a bit slim so a broader variant is recommended for longer periods of standing uprite and the foot brake pedal should be adjusted so it is not so far down from the pegs. Back to on asphalt riding the bike is heavy but it feels much lighter and smaller than it is and for a new rider like me it felt less intimidating as a first bike to ride compared to other adv bikes. The only complaints I have so far is that over 90 KM/H it has a lot of vibration and I have been wondering of there is any vibration dampening add-ons for the handlebars. The other complaint is that in lower speeds like crawling speed the throttle is to sensitive compared to other bikes I have ridden on. It's hard to maintain a constant speed for me at least on this I first gear under 20 KM/H and thus it is bit uneven and shaky or snappy. Spareparts is only available at OEM dealers for now since it is so new and topboxes and sidebags are a bit hard to find (in Norway at least) and thus the few options are more expensive than I wanted it to be. So for me as it is now I could summarize my experience with this bike as followed : If you are looking for your first bike for commuting and longer trips in a lower price range Voge is the bike for you. It's a good bike for its price range and you get alot for the money. LED screen, Premium brakes, good shocks and a playfully bike with good fuel economy as well. It's a bike that is easy to handle both at slow and dast speeds and thus gives you a good ride if you either go for long rides on the highway, playfully rides on the side roads, commuting in the city or a ride in the woods on dirt roads (I recommend to pick some good tires for this). It's a mid size bike that feels big but when you ride it suddenly feels smaller than it is and this only makes the bike less intimidating when new to riding but gives you a feeling of the bike as a powerfull and large adv also. As I've not ridden enough bikes to compare Voge to I can't say if this is better or worse. But the bike is an excellent bike for its price range and size. You get alot for the money and they recently released a new model which is the DS650 that are more offroad focused and is more similar to a classic ADV like ducati multistrada or BMW GS1200 but as a mid size mc. (A2 license).

Wonder what the finish would look like after a salty winter...I have a CB500X which is an amazing bike for the money and has a high resale value. I'm not so sure a VOGE would be easy to sell on after a while. There are so many third party spares and extras for the CB500X and a massive service support network, though they don't seem to go wrong with the legendary Honda reliability. You get what you pay for. Nice to have choices but the purchase price is not everything, need to look at the big picture.

they have 48 Voge dealers and 85 dealers in the MotoGB group who are the importers and that compares to around 70 Honda dealers, the engine is also a licenced version of the Honda engine and these bikes also use mainstream components for the brakes, suspension and electronics etc so there should really be no problem with spares or reliability, and as for resale, people know what they are buying into and in purely monetary terms a 50% loss on this is not so different to a 30% loss on a Honda, and Japanese fit and finish is not what it used to be either, I have looked at both bikes and there really isn't much difference

In China,our Chinese 500cc ADV motorbikes are the hottest option. We have a variety of choice competing each other. We have Voge 500DS, Benelli TRK 502X, COLOVE KY500X, Honda CB400X(assembled in China) and CFMOTO 650MT(a little bit more expensive but in the same price level). I've had some test ride of 500DS, CB400X and KY500X, I think KY500X is better at riding experience. It has the best handling in its class for it is much more lighter than its competitors and it has unilateral swingarm. It also have outstanding off-road performance. CB400X is the most smooth one and it is very reliable, those features with lower seats makes it way more accessible. But it has almost no off-road ability and technical equipment. 500DS stands between those two, it has enough off-road ability and comfort equipment for long distance traveling, but it's not that good on handling especially on curvy road and when moving it at low speed.

Mark, it doesn't seem like I made a good choice after all. My bike is now 39 days old and it packed up yesterday. The dam thing starts sounding funny as I approach my house, I pull in and it won't switch off, I hit the kill switch but no joy. Eventually I stick it in gear and release the clutch with breaks applied, now the engine cuts out but the dam thing keeps trying to start up just like as if I'm trying to turn it on, eventually it seems to have lost power in the battery. The thing is I have no idea if there is any permanent damage. I rang the shop that I gave £6200 for it (which is only two miles away) they said ah well, bring it over and we will sort it. In my opinion this is bang out of order. Anyway you did ask me to let you know in six months how I am am enjoying my new Voge 500dsx. It only took 39 days.

Chinese bikes are getting much more costlier to buy over the next few months - COVID, shipping costs etc - so beware! Definitely wouldn’t buy one over a Honda (or any Japanese or Italian) for the cost difference (also these have 3k service intervals) as I still wouldn’t quite trust the build quality, however, that may change in the future. Thanks for the review.

A good effort. But the normal concerns 3000 miles service , if it's a proven engine then why not 6 or 8 thousand mile ? Then the story on parts or lack of them. There getting better but the servicing cost will put people off , its a fair cost over two years.

It's practicaly a copy paste of the CB500X 2022mod. mechanicaly and desighn wise. The Voge 500DSX gives you all the extras that honda has as standard! except for the travel bags. The honda has an LCD screen where the Voge has TFT also standard! And with all that said it costs about almost 1,500 euros less than the CB500X . This isn't a bargain it's a steal!

I really like that but the biggy with this sort of thing is servicing. Not just the intervals as others have said but locally ,and I live in a big-ish city, most bike shops won't work on Chinese bikes because of the poor quality. Now that might well be unfair these days but it's a fact. They also tend to be sold by small outfits that quite often disappear and leave the owner high and dry. I'm sure attitudes will change as a lot of Chinese manufacturers are making good stuff these days but it will also take larger dealers with factory-trained mechanics and good spares back up for them to really take off. I'm a former mechanic but not everyone can service their own bike,my mate runs a bike shop and there's a constant stream of people who come in to get their chains checked,lubed and adjusted let alone are capable of stripping their brakes or checking valve clearances.

It's funny how some people are not happy with the 3000 miles/5000 kilometers service intervals of the Voge, especially when most of the people don't even surpass this number every year due to bad weather. The CB500X has service intervals every 4000 miles/6400 kilometers, which is not a huuuuge difference, of you compare the total prices of both of these bikes. My point is that you get a much cheaper 500cc motorcycle, which is better in some departments and you can have equal or more fun.

I let my ds500 dry out of gas, and the kilometers where 321. So 17lt for 321 ? That's about 5,1lt per 100 kilometers. The screen was saying 4,1lt. Something is not right 🤔🤔🤔 Next test will be...put gas till top of the tank, do a 100 kilometers and go back again to the gas station to fill it up. The first "kilometers per liter" test failed. Let's see how the second test will do and find out who is the lier... The liters per 100 kilometers meter or the kilometers meter?🤔

So close in price to a Honda CB500X, with the 2022 model being the best ever, that it would be madness to take the Chinese option. The Chinese economy is about to collapse, unlike Japan, so Honda is probably a safer bet. But fair credit to them, it looks to be the nicest Chinese bike yet, the Bennelli’s are trash. Now if they did this in a 1000cc Africa Twin rip off for short people, I’d be buying one now.

Mr Mark I want to address - "I can't quite get my feet down flat". YOU DON'T NEED TO GET YOUR FEET DOWN FLAT or anybody for that matter. When you stop and have to balance on the ground most of your weight will be on the bike and all you need is just "balls" of your feet to keep the bike vertically. 1 foot actually is all you need. Statement - I can't quite get my feet down flat is like - I can't quite run with my feet down flat. WOW!. Who needs feet down flat when running and who needs feet down flat when riding a motorcycle; plus if you ride a bike - you RIDE it I hope and not sit in a traffic and this position is so much more important. You should not be bending your legs like a newborn of a sort most of the time only to have it feet down flat for a few seconds in traffic. Thumb up as always. I actually stopped watching Missendend Flyer as your reviews as so much better.
