Well done. Quick question. Would the next progression include a small sided game before going numbers down at 3v4? And would you keep it at even numbers first? Or do you go 3v2 numbers up to help paint a picture for that 3rd attacker?

I don't believe those 3rd and 4th defenders would stand still and not just slide over and kill the space as its right in front of goal. The space most likely to be created would be outside the full back in the wide area and your second attacker would more likely overlap to create the 2 v 1 situation as this is unlikely to happen in the area you are showing. And where is the goalkeeper?

The second defender shouldn't have gone to pressure the second attacker. There is no need. This creates a hole, especially if the 3rd defender doesn't slide across.

The idea would be that the third man run is from a midfielder who would receive the ball and take it to the by-line for a cut-back.

Although that will be the case, you need to take into consideration all other players on the field. If the other players in the back four are already occupied then a deep run from midfield would be a great example of this working in a game. Ex: a 4-3-3 against a formation with a back 4. Our three wingers are pinning their pinning their back four (RB with our LW, ST with their CBs, and LB with our RW. Now the player dribbling at the defense is our RAM and the player checking over is our ST. The run in behind is provided by the LAM. Where they need to do well to prevent us from getting in behind is their midfielder tracking our LAM's run or passing him off to their free CB. This happens in the professional game all the time. Look no further than Aaron Ramsey of Arsenal. Look up a goal compilation of his.

You would never step up into a situation like this as a defender - this is amateur drills and makes no sense in zone defending if you know just a little about football.

@@AlmaRockeraOficial sure but the point of the drill is to move players out of positions and open up space.. overload a 2 and a 3rd will have to try and cover, so either you get through on that side or you move it to the other and have more of an opportunity there because you've caused a panic on that side..
