I love Shalom as a model but there’s nothing revolutionary about having a brunette on the cover. Brunette Christy Turlington had 51 Vogue covers prior to ‘96. Linda Evangelista was brunette in her first 17 covers by Bill King, Eric Roman, Patrick Demarchelier, Irving Penn, and Steven Meisel - all before 1991. Naomi Campbell was on the cover 25 times by the end of 1995, and that’s without mentioning Iman, Gail O’ Neil, or Donyale Luna who appeared on the cover of Vogue in 1966. Just saying. I don’t think this interview does much to make Shalom very likeable. She’s clearly got some narratives about her role in the industry going on and she seems a little snobby here. Sorry.

I totally agree. Somehow she thinks she revolutionized the industry by being brunette in a vogue's cover or by lifting her arms while walking or by wearing Jacobs in the 90s .... Like... come down girl... you were just one more who were below the top 5 Super models of the 90s.

I don't doubt that the stylist was not up to par, and helping to improve the look of the film is an accomplishment, but it seemed less about her contribution and more about her power to get rid of someone she considered less than. Too bad.
