Took a while for me to realize Yubaba character borrows from Baba Yaga in that she steals the family name of the unsuspecting and makes them servants of hers.

It’s also derived from the Japanese word for Grandmother or Granny, which is more than likely hinting that her age. Also also, one of the most iconic Japanese horror movies of all time is onibaba, which is about some con women stealing from people by dressing up as onis
