Blew my mind as a kid after seeing the cartoon version of Snoopy the Musical. Snoopy finally started to talk with the same voice as Leonardo. But Melendez's backwards and sped up Snoopy voice was legendary. I always thought that was a fun comparison between Garfield and Snoopy. They both "talked" through thought bubbles, but where as Garfield's internal monologue was integral to the character, the decision to have Snoopy as a mime in animated cartoon gave a different level to the character. To the point that it was weird to see him actually talking. Even had a Teddy Ruxpin type talking Snoopy storyteller toy with Cam's voice.

I think the most likely Peanuts characters to get a voice evolution are possibly Lucy, Linus, Sally, Peppermint Patty & Marcy, Schroeder and maybe Woodstock for next year.

5:25 I'm 54 years old, loved Peanuts as a kid, watched all the cartoons ... and never knew Snoopy had a proper voice until now. No. NO NO NO. Animators should *never* have given Snoopy a human voice, even inside his head. Bill Melendez's squeaks and growls were enough. The spirit of the character has been ruined.

I disagree. I think on special occasions, Snoopy should speak internally and have a human voice. But regularly, he should speak in squeaks, growls and dog noises. I feel it's fine that Snoopy has a human voice every once in a while.

Never did myself, but I saw a promo picture for it at my local cinema (theatre to American readers), and I quite honestly thought it was going to be about a poodle tracing back his ancestral roots and settling with a pack of wolves.
