Hi Sam! I would love for you to react to "El triste" by Jose Jose, he just passed away a few days ago and he was (and in my mind will be) one of the best and strongest vocalists that Mexico had, we seem to be losing more and more great singers from the golden years and while it makes me incredibly sad, i'm happy we get to remember them and keep them alive through their work. Here's the link of one of the best performances of that specific song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goi2cnh9grWLipo In the media it's always been described as a super hard song to replicate and to be fair in the eyes of the general public it does sound super hard to do, the intensity and duration of the notes kinda blows my mind and i'm really curious to know from a voice teacher the technicalities behind it.

I have this theory that most country singers, especially in this era, do not aim for vocal effectiveness... that country would lose it’s iconic sound if they became “efficient singers”. So I think, as you said, this was (to some extent) a conscious decision in order to produce that “twangy” sound.

Hey Sam, I had a question. I've heard that young children singing professionally is kind of frowned upon because they haven't developed their instrument and don't have as much control. While they may sound amazing, they're ruining their voices long term and that people shouldn't even try to do more than learn vocal relaxation until their twenties when they can learn more techniques. What's your view on this?
@rachelh87145 жыл бұрын
Yes, please talk about this!!!
@tpotterr5 жыл бұрын
If this is correct i did everything right. I started singing with 20.
@griffindoerr14384 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely incorrect. The same reason babies can cry for hours at a time is because they know how to do it without ruining their voices. Children don’t have to be touring the world to learn how to sing. What conservatory teach told you this?
@margicates5534 жыл бұрын
Griffin doer Babies can scream for hours because their larynx is still flexible and soft. It hardens as you get older. Children should not be imitating adult singers. They can sing, and take lessons but shouldn’t attempt heavier repertoire. ( belting, opera,) Voices change with puberty, vocal cords get thicker. Women’s voices tend to reach thier full mature sound around 30 something, men around 40 something. As a former child singer who got nodes from vocal competitions. DONT LET YOUR KID PRETEND TO BE ARETHA. OR pavorotti. Or nickleback. As a Matter of fact, how about none of us try to sing like nickleback. 😝
@griffindoerr14384 жыл бұрын
margi cates I didn’t think the question was about children trying to SOUND like adults. I assumed it was more a question of how often they should be able to sing. And yes, let’s all avoid singing like Chad Kroger :)

He picks great vowel shapes for pop. It’s very smiley, bright and wide without approaching the pitch from below. I think a lot of it is how well he regulates his volume between different shapes. Most singers stick to a single concept for ALL of their vowels to prevent them from occasionally popping out. He seems to have enough control and practice to be able to utilize them while maintaining a uniform feel to the song

It's so easy to get distracted by Harry's handsome, beautiful face and presence, as well as his hair, fashion and general appearance , but I feel his musical talent and songwriting is maturing all the time and his actual voice is really good.Plus he thinks about being creative and out of the box. He is the whole package IMO.You never know what he is going to do next- like the video that accompanied his new album/song , ERODA, which was so interesting.It was a short film that was his concept.He always wants to grow and stretch boundaries and I admire that about him.He is also wonderful to his fans from what I have seen.He espouses kindness! Harry’s record is Fine Line and is kind of supposed to be listened as a story: meeting the girl, falling deeply in love, the break up (not accepting it was his fault but finally accepting it -the song Falling), dealing with it and finally acceptance. Now, there’s in Falling the acceptance of loosing someone forever (thank god he found recently a new girlfriend and seems happy). But the day before (night) his first “adult” (he was 17 and she was 35) love, Caroline, committed suicide. I don’t know the circumstances and I don’t want to. But Harry was devastated. The Brit Awards ppl contacted him and offered to change the singers and his fabulous scenography and be replaced. But he went through the thing and I think he gave us that heartbreaking performance by pushing himself “...and I get the feeling that you’ll never need me again...”. That’s why I was seriously pissed of (pardon my French) when that “music teacher” compared and contrasted his video singing with the Brit awards singing, making him an example of overpraised (he used that word) good looking singers that really can’t sing. And he went on pointing each and every crack of the voice, pitch issues etc etc. That’s why I asked the most knowledgeable and FAIR singing teacher in my Patreon and that’s you 🙂 Thanks again!

Random question is it possible for everone to get a raspy voice with practice? Might be a stupid question i know.
@JustAnotherBuckyLover5 жыл бұрын
As in, a deliberate raspy singing voice that doesn't harm the voice, or raspy from less than ideal technique and/or strain? If the latter then yes, absolutely! But if the former, the voice is like anything, if you get training, and practice a lot, then there are lots of things you can do with it. There's always the chance that *someone* can't do a thing - no matter what - so you can never say everyone can learn to do x or y... but yes, you can absolutely learn to change the tone of your singing voice over time.
