It’s absolutely criminal that she had to push so hard to get her career lifted off the ground. Raye deserves to fly high straight to alllll the success now that’s she’s gotten her long overdue break through. Phenomenal talent.

She was getting the worst kind of management. Mismatched to club/house singles as opposed to the singer-songwriter she really is. Which can happen when you’re working hard on the come up but gotta go with what you land. She’s a fighter, for sure. Lots of studios have ideas for the products they wanna package but can’t do with the artists they have. Some get out of that and some get flattened by it. Glad she’s getting the respect and hopefully, the artistic freedom she deserves.

So many layers to her beautiful voice. Love it! She has so much soul. She did some scat, some jazz, some soul, some classical and alittle rap with a Spanish twang all in one song. The choir and the orchestra (chefs kiss). Amazing. Jaron you did such a great job analyzing her performance. I truly enjoyed this.

The twang is black/global majority London British...her articulation leans heavily into it for the whole song and as she morphs through the different styles. I love that she's kept that in her style.

I got a couple things you could review, if you want something just a little bit different for your listeners. The Cathedrals- We Shall See Jesus, from the recording, Deep In The Heart of Texas, the other - David Phelpes singing - O Holy Night.

A lot of the way she sings/pronounces her words is due to her London accent. That's what I love about her, she's unapologetically British! You can hear the accent.

Genuine question - no shade. As a vocal teacher why is your speaking voice and singing voice still so nasal?
@jmlegrairstudio
@jmlegrairstudio 5 ай бұрын
Hmmm. I’d like to counter that question with a few follow ups. Are you insinuating that “nasality” is bad? And are you sure that what you’re hearing is indeed “nasality” from me?
@WarriorOfGhengisKhan
@WarriorOfGhengisKhan 5 ай бұрын
@@jmlegrairstudio Thanks for the reply. Good and bad is subjective, but to be honest in general yes (but I give Bob Dylan a pass.) Nasality on certain consonants can add colour but when I hear nasal resonance in all words I instantly think of Frank Sidebottom's pinched nose voice.

@@debrajayem Because his singing voice wasn't his calling card, it was his songs and the meaning behind them.
@jmlegrairstudio
@jmlegrairstudio 5 ай бұрын
@@WarriorOfGhengisKhan yep, “good” and “bad” is certainly subjective. The way you posed the question had an undertone of disbelief that my voice can be “nasally” as a voice teacher. So between your initial question + your other replies here, it sounds like you don’t like nasality in the voice, which is okay, but your question was a bit shady, to be honest. I get everyone has their preferences, but to ask why my voice is still so nasal just has a negative connotation. Many things can contribute to one’s natural sound including region/dialect and natural genetics - which are both things that I cannot change. Especially the latter. I’ve always had a “nasal” voice - although I believe my voice isn’t so much nasal as it is bright and brassy by a more narrowed vocal tract. But many people call it nasal because they may not know many other terms. This “nasal brightness” does help me reach high notes that most people can’t hit, so it’s a blessing to me. I never felt the need to change it. Nasality is just a descriptive of a sound. We can choose to like or dislike it, but in essence, there’s nothing wrong with a nasal voice. Even Raye has a bit of nasality at times in her voice. But my sound has always been my sound.
