The girl with the thousand voices, another great cover. Best singer on this planet!🤩

I think one of the things that separates Angelina from the pack is her courage. She not only has the ears and musical sense to know how it should sound, but she is also brave enough to take her voice to extreme places to get the sound she is after. I imagine a lot of vocal coaches (with no background knowledge of Angelina) might point out lots of things that needed to be 'fixed' if she sat down and just belted a few seconds from the middle of this. But that's what makes her so great. She goes way outside the box sometimes, and it gives us something very unexpected and very special. Her versatility is just incredible.

Indeed Rusty, her versatility, musical instinct, technical skills and ability to reach our hearts with every song makes Angelina an artist who completely stands out.

One of the things that separates the vocal coaches/teachers from the pack is their ability to quickly recognize Angelina is (1) not a phenomenon they have experienced before, (2) that she is not hurting herself, (3) not damaging her vocal apparatus, and (4) what might be considered "mistakes" are actually style choices when she sings. Valerie, of course, is one in that select group.

This is actually her experimenting at age 12 (13 on thumbnail is an error) she had just received this new mike for her 12 th birthday and this is the first time she used it. Plugged in mike turned on the camera and set down in the corner to see what it would do. This is the result.

Once I got past the amazement that Angelina can sing as well as she does, I find myself further amazed at how she chooses to arrange and perform songs. Sometimes she adds just subtle little touches while sticking mostly to the original and then sometimes just totally revamping the song as she did with this one. Even though she used the original backing track this was not similar to Etta James in the slightest. It wasn't anything like Angelina has ever performed before either. The vocal fry is typical Angelina just used unusually heavily. But what made her think to fill what is quiet space in the original with all those bluesy vocalizations. How did she know she could do it and that it would sound good in this particular song? I am just amazed at how intelligently and creatively she approaches every song she performs. That she can actually perform what she visualizes is additionally incredible, for a singer with any amount of experience much less at her tender age.

If you let people just listen to it there is no way anyone will say ‘Oh this surely must be (1) a 12 year old (2) sitting down on a couch (3) recording this in a living room (4) doing it in one take and (5) wait! Keeping the microphone turned around wrong!’ It is indeed amazing what she can do with her voice: she has such a rich vocal toolbox and knows exactly how to use. Doubtlessly she is gifted with immense innate talent but seeing how she is growing with big spurts of growth, she must be working very very hard as well combined with all the qualities you mention. Yes she seems to be experimenting a lot with different genres, songs and artists and I love it. I really hope she remains as curious and keeps exploring music, styles of singing, artists and genres as it seems to greatly enrich her own performances and art. Thanks again! If you’d like to hear a tell a story, you might want to check out her tribute to her late friend Avicii ‘Wake me up’ where she tells his story using her own song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGbSnnaribZsiZI

I've hypothesized about turning the mic around. Haven't seen her do that on any other song. I googled what happens went you turn the mic around, and it said the sound is somewhat muffled or softened; less volume. I'm guessing she knew that the heavy vocal fry and nasal sound would be harsh and that very sensitive mic would pick it all up and perhaps make it less appealing. So she turned it around, and I would say it worked out well. Concerning her tribute to her friend, Avicii, I would say that she rearranged his very popular song, not that she used her own song. Best wishes, Bart.

Wow! Robert Vernig's comments cover my amazement. I'd just add my further amazement at how smart she is musically. She not only is capable of applying almost every singing technique at will, but she also knows exactly when to do so.

It's always good to hear your thoughts on Angelina. I think this performance served as an Experimental Laboratory for this Genius of our times, where she had a lot of fun experimenting with her newly acquired microphone. This is one of several performances that not only pleases, but actually we were shocked by so much talent and personal resources!! To say that she is a spirit of light is an understatement, even more so in these dark and dangerous times. She is an inspiration!

If she performed this at The Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY, before the toughest 'Black' soul singing critics on the planet, she would have garnered a standing ovation covering this Etta James classic. Extraordinary doesn't even come close to measuring the diverse singing talent of different genre music that this girl has mastered at such a young age. She should be referred to as a 'One Off', for there is not now, nor has there ever been before, anyone who has even come close to her diverse talent.

Thank you for this once again and we missed you. Angelina just did another tic toc only about a minute long I watched today. Please go back and listen to her breath control on the second to last run in this song. I’m not a big fan of this song by anyone. The fry starts burning my ears. I do appreciate seeing her discover and experiment though and gladly watch everything she does. With around 160 videos now available My Funny Valentine is #1 and this song may be 159. I’ll still watch it because Angelina is unbelievably good!

Thanks Valerie for your always insightful analysis. Yes this was Angelina in raw form experimenting with a sound from the past. How? Just how? I think Etta James would have been proud. She was sitting on a living room couch, not even standing which would have allowed her to get even more power and fullness. I'm not sure we will ever see that sound again but I'm sure there will be new styles coming. You should check out, I'm still holding out for you. Most think it's her best ever work from the past when she was 10. Thanks Valerie for supporting Angelina and encouraging viewers to subscribe to her channels!

This is exactly right. Because she is so remarkable from age six, we sometimes forget she is learning and experimenting. And not just refining but learning and adding skills to her repertoire. We fans can be mesmerized by her abilities without realizing she is growing and changing. Despite her enormous skill set she keeps working hard to improve. She lives her art. Compare her to other musical prodigies and you see they are possessed by their art forms. As l have mentioned before she keeps working on specific songs until she gets them right but according to her exacting standards. There is an illusion of ease with her singing but make no mistake she works hard. She lives and breathes music. And she is absolutely fearless.

Hello again Valerie, and thank you so much for yet another insightful reaction to Angelina. I know it says that Angelina was 13 in the description, but this is actually Angelina trying the mic that she got for her 12th birthday out for the first time. So she'd JUST turned 12. Even MORE crazy, right ?? This was the mic that she would stay with, and sthe sound quality of her performances really improved a lot. Take care, Valerie ! Love from Norway :-) Btw, I think it was a pity that you stopped her in the middle of that 17 second, flat out belting sequence. I would like to advice you to take advantage of the "go 5 seconds back"- option that you have in KZbin. It makes it easier for you to pick up on certain things, and makes it all flow a little easier in a way :-) And also, during her online Christmas concert, she confirmed that she has been working on a new album. Many thought that that album would come last year, but I guess Covid got in the way. I believe the timing is perfect THIS year, tho, as she has just got a few month left of mandatory school. Republic Records promised not to promote her until Angelina and her parents felt that the time is right, and so far they have been very protective of her, giving her the freedom she needs and the time she needs to finish school. She is doing some touring this summer, and I really hope we will get to hear her perform something from that new album then. I will see her in concert here in Norway on July 10th, and I just can't wait. That day she will be EXACTLY 16.5 years old. Totally CRAZY to think about. If you want to come along, there are still tickets available. I truly believe this will be the last chance to see her before she takes off BIG TIME. It's a good scalp to have in your belt. For those interested, go to KURBADHAGEN and have a look.

Thanks again!

Thanks Valerie for another great reaction/analysis of Angelina experimenting with a different voice she had never used before &, so far, hasn't used again. When you pause in the middle of a run, like your last pause, it would be great if you could go back to when it started, because it shows her tremendous breath control, as the run goes on & on & on, where I'm gasping for air just watching her. You say you are waiting on some new songs for her to release, but there are still some recent ones you haven't done. Her Tik Tok videos are usually just snippets of a song, but a couple she sings the entire song . Her cover of Adele's, Love is a Game is stunning kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYqsnH-thK6Fqdk as is her cover of Lionel Richie's duet, Endless Love with her singing both parts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIjYhmeggrCkgtk

I've wanted you to do this for a long time. She's fearless. Bluesy. More even than Etta or Beyoncé's versions. That phrase you interrupted is endless. She is holding the mic she loves so much backwards and it's a highly directional mic--you can't record into the back of it. So she is lip synching, which interests me because it suggests that she had a take she liked and she also liked the idea of the casual coach thing. Great instincts.
@dojoswitzer2 жыл бұрын
(A little game of ‘telephone’ here.) I have not seen the original quote, but I read someone comment that Angelina’s music school teachers gave up early with trying to coach her on the vocals and concentrated on her learning to play instruments. So, as you observe she is experimenting, it seems that she is self taught. I am only an observer, but I have no doubt.
