You feel the performances even stronger when you know the stories behind it, what the song means for the person in the hot seat or why someone chose that song. And Anneke really has a big heart. She sings "White Roses" for Joe Buck and that one still gets to me. It's about his older brother, the first child of his parents, who was stillborn and he wrote this song out of admiration for his parents for how they dealt with such a big heartache. He gets very emotional when he hears Anneke sing it and Anneke also gets into the emotion of the song, you can hear her voice break during the last few lines of the song and at the end she needs a few seconds to pull herself together. Such a beautiful song!

I had the pleasure watching her perform in a small venue last Saturday. A complete acoustic band with strings. She is great live and has al lot of humor.

I love how this song plays with minor and major chords for the desperate and hopeful parts, and Anneke delivers it perfectly and with such emotion.

I am with you Valerie. I love this show so much. Anneke is so wonderful. Her voice just rings out so clear and beautiful. I love how she goes between her chest voice and head voice. I love her smile. I can see why Floor was so inspired by Anneke. Great comment, "What's your favorite flower"? All have unique qualities and portray beauty in their own special way.

Yes, this is a very beautiful and emotional song. And Anneke nailed it. She is so much more than “just” a metal singer. Anneke sang this to Belle and I recommend you also react to the one that Belle sang to Anneke - Strange Machines. BTW The band is named after their leader, Marcel Fisser, who plays the guitar. And I love that guy who played the violin in this song so gently, while he can really rock it with his saxophone in other songs. Two instruments so different and he plays both perfectly.

The guy on the violin is Hubert Heeringa, he plays bugel, violin, saxofoon and the WX 7 Yamaha.

Her voice reminds me, in a way, of Carol King. But Anneke van Giersbergen is an international icon herself. Such a beautiful colouring. Love her voice and her performance. Modest, heartfelt.

So grateful you spoke out against the competitive focus in singing; at the end of the last programme these artists talked about respect, and how society should be about respect and connection between people despite their differences, like in this show.

The concept of the Beste Zangers is gold, but they sold it to other countries and there it's not the same as the Dutch version. I can't explain it and I hope that the coming season in Germany with Floors participation will change it. I also will recommend you to see Roel when he was singing for Karsu.

Thanks Valerie, for your heartfelt reaction. You voice the thoughts and emotions I experience too in Beste Zangers. My suggestion for the song that moved me most, is Karsu singing Annekes song 'Losing you'. She renders it so powerful in her fragility, it is stunning. And here you also find a division, not in major and minor but in low and accepting and high and hurting... You'll love it. I hope you can get it past the YT blocks! Take care!

Love to see you and Belle pink a tear away, love to see Karsu blinking her eyes because it is getting watery. I had to do the same. Anneke really plucks our emotional chords with this song.

Anneke van Giersbergen is stunning angelic and versatile so good ! This song sounds a little bit like the songs in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar in the early seventies. She's a great rolemodel for a lot of other wellknown international female fronted vocalists like Floor and her sister Irene Jansen, Sharon den Adel, Simone Simons, Dianne van Giersbergen, Charlotte Wessels, Marjan Wessels and Manda Ophuis. I deeply regret right now not mentioning the other female singers which are great as well seeing Anneke as their Dutch Godmother of Metal too. And a lot of compliments to the Marcel Fisser band for all their (background) performances in Beste Zangers .....

The Marcel Fisser Band is the permanent backing band of 'Jan Smit' (the permanent moderator sitting next to Anneke), 'Nick & Simon' (moderators BZ 2020), and 'Beste Zangers', among others. After years of being in the background, they are now taking a step forward to be able to do their own tour in a few years' time.

Where we call Floor the Valkyrie for her sheer vocal power, i'd say we should call Anneke the Siren, for she can mesmerize everyone with her voice, she could crash ships onto the rocks with just a whisper of her song. Her voice always captivates me, its so beautiful and luring, therefor "The Siren" hehehe. I was feeling so sorry for Karsu, for who this song hit a little bit too close to home, having had her relationship for 12 years, ended not too long before the show started recording. Thnx for the react Valerie and you've already hinted at the next song.. you're gonna like Belle rocking on stage ;)

Loved this reaction and your on-point dissection Valerie! And, ye, this song is gorgeous and hits deep. Anneke brought melody to an already melodic metal band ... and only got to further perfect this key skill. Sure, the original spanish song is from Belle and already a gem, but the english lyrics by Anneke are melodically perfect, and personal to her as well. You mentioned the apparent similarity with Dolly Parton ... who happens to be one of Anneke's idols ... and Anneke usually has a Dolly Parton song in the set lists for her acoustic shows. Here's a wonderful performance she gave in a venue in Belgium: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIu5fmCJqaZpj68 Before you react to that one, which I would certainly recommend you to do, just for the mere joy it brings, I wish to remind you of the all-audience favourite: Travel during TG25 @ Doornroosje. ;) And you're so right about performance arts not having to be a competition. Spread the word!

Btw, the emotionally most impactful singing during this BZ season was done by Anneke and Hendrik-Jan imo. Hendrik-Jan's rendition of Anneke's song 'Zo lief' hit me hardest, and still does. Roel arranged and brought some very emotionally impressive performances as well. And I think the most impressive vocal performances were delivered by Karsu, impressive in a similar way as Floor is impressive. In some ways possibly more impressive as Anneke can be ... but Anneke's timbre, tone and vocality are just still beyond compare to me.

It's sad that the music sung by singers like this usually don't get the exposure it deserves. I get it; it's not commercial enough and often too long to allow for commercials on the radio, but I feel it is incredibly sad many of the general public don;t get exposed to some of the most beautiful modern music around
