Thank you, Dimash fans! I appreciate all the kind comments (as well as the criticisms). For those who are frustrated by my stopping and commenting - my goal is to react as well as impart information on vocal technique, and to help singers (and interested non-singers) understand how to improve their own singing.

I've watched Dimash (a once in a lifetime phenom in my book) for over a year now and right from the start I could tell that u know what ur talking about. So, it was so much fun to anticipate ur reactions each step of the way! I studied voice with one of the top voice teachers of the 20th century here in DC in the early 90s. He wanted me to have an international singing career but instead I started a family and became a teacher and soccer coach. As a retired music teacher with more time, Dimash has inspired me to dive back into seeing how far I can take my 5 octave voice (at this point ~3 usable for recording; ~2 for live and ~1.5 for serious operatic singing). This the best breakdown of Dimash's talent I've heard. Because you can tell us lesser musically trained people what is what. That's a talent you have there, I've literally watched dozens of these and I've found no one as clear as you. Only opera singers come close. And it shows you feel this stuff, despite your experience. It can also mean it has been around longer, panders to fans more (if that is possible, as the singer does not seem to give reason for any kind of criticism), or simply that more people happened to see it.

Sam's video is over a year older than this one, of course it will have more views, he was one of the first vocal coaches to do a detailed analysis like this. That's why it has so many views, because people prefer professional break down of the performance more than the reactions that involve Aaahing and ooohind and bug eyes. Sam's teacher Dr.Marc Reinolds is also doing amazing Dimash breakdowns with added benefit that he talks about stage effects, body language and all that. Don't try to pick fights with people on Dimash's reactions, it's a disgrace, shame on you. You're sullying his purity with your venom

Both of Dimash's parents were singers and I think he also worked to keep his high range during puberty. I think Dimash trained and practiced from a very early age.

You are right, lots of hard work, he started vocal training when he was five and is a classically trained opera singer with two degrees and working on a masters in composition. His talent is truly unique but without the work he keeps putting in, it would not have been possible to express it. Believe it or not, today, almost three years after the video you watched, he is even better with a more mature voice. He is 25 now.

I know this has been awhile, but in reply to Dimash's vocal gift, his grandmother noticed when he was 5 years old that he had "Perfect Pitch" . Took him to the national music school, for an audition, and they immediately accepted him after hearing him

Dimash is the best technically trained singer in the world today. Not only does he have this magnificent voice, he also has the ability to draw in the audience with his body language and he becomes the music . This performance was almost three years ago, and his voice has matured to where he is even better now, then what you just heard. This song is pure Opera with dual male/female voices. I suggest the version of "Olympico" (Ogni Pietra) from New Wave 2019. I've heard it sounds more 'classical' and "lighter" where as Arnau Concert is "more rock" and "darker". I prefer the former, mostly because of the Greek and classical theme and light/inspiring feel. Yeah, thanks for the great suggestion! 😊 I also suggest that song, but definitely the ultra HD fan cam version of he Arnau concert, on the channel of Dimash48 😊 all vocal coaches (and most fans) prefer thht version, the whole video is a HD close-up of his face, so you can see e.g. his embouchure very well and can analyze his technique better and more easily. Also, there's no post-production on it 😊 Hmm I don't know, why some people believe that Ogni Pietra is a 5 octave song. I guess someone once spread the rumor and then people started sharing it. I guess they think so because they'd never heard sustained 6th octave notes by a male before and think they must be even higher than they already are. Probably same with the lows, he sings the lower parts in more like a baritone tone, and the tone is very dark, I guess this is why people assume that these notes are even lower. The applied tone can really trick the ears. In reality, Ogni Pietra has kind of the same range as SOS (more than 3 octaves). He does have some 5 octaves songs/performances though. For example his performance of "Diva Dance" at his concert in Shenzhen, China, has slightly more than 5 (F2 - F#7). And in his late teenage years he participated in a Kazakh talent show ("7 Songs") and performed a song with exactly 5 octaves there ("Kinalama", G#2 - G#7). But I guess there may be more 5 octave performances, there are so many performances I haven't watched yet, and I haven't pitched his performance with his D8 ("Unforgettable Day" at the Gakku Festival) yet. He doesn't go really low in that song, but I think there are bottom 3rd octave notes in it, so this performance has probably also around 5 octaves

Настоящие талантливые люди это прекрасно понимают.Многие пишут,что никогда не думали, что будут интересоваться казахскими песнями,даже петь их.Я вот тоже никогда не думала,что полюблю китайские песни; русские,украинские,казахские,английские,итальянские,французские- да, но китайские... А ведь полюбила в исполнении Димаша,его " Лунная мама", " Осенняя печаль" и др. китайские песни также вызывают мощные эмоции,как "Дайдидау", "Знай", "SOS", "Oлимпико" и др. И это все Димаш, он не только прекрасно поет,он- посол мира и добра, он об' единяет всех нас независимо от цвета кожи, разреза глаз, вероисповедания ,от возраста. И это самая главная его миссия.!!!

@@abishev1959 Ну он же говорит что Димаш обладает редким голосом, и что никто не споет как он. Он в видео говорит что это не только труд, но и подарок природы. И в начале видео он хвалит того кто увидел и распознал в Димаше этот потенциал. Так же он в видео говорит что Димаш пример того что можно сотворить с голосом на пределе человеческих возможностей. В принципе он прав, и так же говорит что даже большим трудом невозможно достичь таких результатов если ты не родился предрасположенным к пению и такими голосовыми связками. Лично мне это видео очень понравилось, как раз этот педагог и говорит правду что не каждому дано так спеть. И он не пытается и не корчиться достич все ноты которые Димаш исполнил, а то есть тут некоторые педагоги которые тужатся и пародируют)))

@@user-im4jn9rt9n Он как раз и говорит, что нужно обладать природным даром и кто попало никогда не сможет петь как Димаш, даже если будут учиться пению всю жизнь. Он подчеркнул, что Димаш чудо природы + огромная работа. Ничего уничижительного про казахов и КЗ не говорил, не придумывайте! А наобарот, восхищается его талантом и сказал, что окромя вокальных данных, Димаш обладает красивой, утончённой внешностью и поёт всем телом! P.s, Манипулировать казахами не удасться, в отличии от вас, казахи владеют 2-4 языками! Вот так вот!

Thank you for this. Some critics say that he often strains, but you were able to explain clearly how well he supports his voice by being able to manipulate those 3 elements of air flow, vocal cord resistance and resonance.

@@myuudee That's true. It kind of weirded me out for a while that some commenters were all saying the same thing (that he strains starting at a certain note/register), then I learned that they were just quoting from an old video categorising some singers' notes as either strained or supported.

Everyone have their limitation and so Dimash. Strain when singing is common and normal for sometimes u wanna give audiences different colour of your voice to picture the emotions. As long as u're not doing it too much and too often .. u're okay to strain sometimes. Dimash obviously did that on purpose as he can sing from F2 to D8...he can definitely sang those note in healthy ways (without strain) if he wanted to!. In Dimash case, it just a matter of choice. IMO.

Dimash can hit a D8 in whistle note he literally plays with his voice. He’s so amazing. When I first saw him I was shocked because high notes isn’t a problem for him but the lower notes too. It’s so shocking how good he is. There are a lot of people and artists who can sing ridiculously good , but he’s a million times better then every human on the world. I really think he’s an alien sometimes it’s so incredible ❤️

Among the reactions to Dimash' singing, I like yours the most! Most other vocalists and coaches only point out the musical jargons that he did without much explanation, but you actually took the time to explain the physicality behind his techniques. As someone who's learning vocal, this is extremely instructive and entertaining, so thank you!

I am very pleased to hear such an elocuent and educational analysis. I can picture Dimash singing with soprano female students as kid thinking if he ever was going to develop a deep manly voice. He kept working out his highest register and developed a natural manly voice too (lower than bass since his bottom is D2) Unlike many rock star gifted singer, Dimash never stopped studying with voice teachers and went to university to finished some postgrades in music. Beside his wide vocal range, I love his seamless transitions and constantly changing voice colors and styles. Stage presence is another strong point on Dimash and he can sing in several languages.

Hey there! 😊 thanks so much for the great information 😊 however, he didn't need to "develop a manly voice", he has always had a lower extension. He does expand his lower range even more, but I would definitely not say that he ever lacked a "manly voice". There's for ecample footage of him singing a cappella as s kid (!) In which he hits a C#3. And his speaking voice has also always been lower than the male average, also already as a teenager. So he has always had a big range, and he does develop his lower range even morem which is normal for his age, but he has always had a manly voice 😊 btw, his so far lowest note is A1 (in Love is Like a Dream), he can go lower than D2 😊 (Basically he went even a little lower recently in "our Love", but I'm not sure, whether to count that in because it was growling (G#1, Bb1, C#2, E2)

I have watched 1000s of reaction videos to Dimash in the last 2.5 years and you would be shocked how very few notice that crescendo/decrescendo on the last note. The fact that you did earned you an immediate subscriber. If I had to pick only ONE favorite note out of the entire performance (the horror of it 😱😂), it would be that one. It made me feel like Dimash had just built me a big ice cream sundae and that last note was the cherry he plopped on top of it. The perfect ending. ❤ I would like to encourage you to do more reaction videos to Dimash. You have seen a very small drop in a VERY BIG bucket of talent. Singing in multiple languages, Dimash is not contained by any genre. Pop, Rock, R&B, Opera...he often mixes it up... and he even raps! Not content to "rest on his laurels" as of this performance, Dimash is one of the hardest working singers I've ever seen. He continues to improve not only vocally, but in all areas of his performance. As his voice matures, the low notes get deeper and more resonant, and I honestly don't know at this point if his high notes can get any clearer. His mix voice is just unreal. But with Dimash, I always "expect the unexpected" because after 2.5 years, he STILL continually surprises me in some way. He has restored my passion for music, given me a real appreciation for the beauty in many different languages and has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. There is much to admire and respect in this young man. Personally, he is one of the finest examples of humanity that you will see.... hard working, humble, well grounded in family, extreme pride in his country and whose chief goal, instead of fame and fortune, is to introduce Kazakhstan's music to the world. He walked away from the $1M prize on The World's Best rather than compromise his beliefs. Dimash calls his fans "Dears" because they are so dear to his heart. It's a special relationship that cannot be fully explained, only experienced. He remains grateful to his Dears always. It is because of the Dears, that his passion and his hobby is also his career. A fact that will often move him to tears during concerts. This artist is a true diamond that is continually being polished to the highest shine. I would like to offer a recommendation that you: 1) take a chronological journey of his career starting from here (even if you don't do reactions for them, but would love to see them). The appreciation you will gain is indescribable. This was episode 1 of Singer.... S.O.S sung in french. Episode 2 is Opera 2 (Vitas cover) sung in Russian. 2) With respect, I would also like to offer a small bit of constructive criticism. I would like to recommend that you watch a performance in its entirety and THEN go back to offer your instruction from the beginning. There is really only one FIRST time that you watch one of his performances. Allow yourself the FULL experience of the song buildup that Dimash is such a master at (by not pausing to comment). Allow yourself to focus on the emotion of the song the first time through. The Dears will be more than happy to stick around while you rewind to discuss techniques and technicalities but we want your emotional reaction as well. I look forward to more reactions from you. It was a pleasure. Love you, Dimash ❤ One last thought.... if there's any chance you can get to NY for Dimash's first USA solo concert on December 10th, you won't want to miss it. A once in a lifetime chance... a "front row seat" to watch history in the making. Next stop.... a GRAMMY. Right, Dimash?😉

I believe he fits into the extremely rare category amongst the best singers in the world based on his natural ability, his effortless and complete control of his voice, his range, his timbre, his stage presence, his delivery. If you are to place all of those items into score cards he would get 10's across the board. He is at the absolute apex level of the greatest singers in the world. If these was such a competition at this level of singers, it would be nearly impossible to judge who is better. Albeit there is really only a handful of singers in the world who can pull out your soul from your body. Dimash is certainly one of them.

I've watched various vocal coaches and vocal teachers react to this alien being and I must say that you are by far the best. Your explanation of every part of his technique was very informative and helped me to understand how he is controlling his voice. A very good in-depth analysis. By the way, the Kazakhstan Opera had asked Dimash to join them but he wanted to travel worldwide and sing. Lucky for the world that he turned them down.

Yes!! Hi John, I'm Joe, a guitarist in Chicago who's been obsessed with singers for about 4 years, and insanely obsessed with Dimash for maybe 2 years. I sing a little, but I'm mainly interested as a spectator. I had neck surgery a year ago, which damaged my "equipment" - the main effect I've noticed was that it accentuated the break between registers. As a kind of therapy I guess, I'm gradually working on some of the technique I pick up from some of the better vocal coaches & singers reacting to Dimash & a few others...you're one of the very best I've seen!! Dimash has redefined the art of the possible, which should inspire any serious vocalist. You mentioned that you could do a 2 hour analysis of this performance alone. I, for one, would be happy to watch that. I mean I know I am here to see your reactions but I'm almost in tears at your vocal knowledge and ability to explain in 20 minutes what took multiple teachers and years to properly convey to me as a child (7 years in chorus, middle and highscool). I'd like to take a moment to compliment you. I am a young professional opera singer, and I am passionate about vocal pedagogy (I've studied it in both my BM and MM). I usually turn off videos of Coach reactions after a minute or two of listening to commentary on KZbin because people tend to either completely oversimplify, or they are simply not knowledgeable about vocal physiology, source/filter theory, formant and harmonic relationships, etc. However, it is clear that you are not only very knowledgeable, but an excellent educator as well, very skilled in digesting high-level concepts and presenting them to a broad public audience on KZbin in a way that will be understandable. Bravo! Thank you for the entertaining commentary, I will be subscribing to your channel to see what other content you put out!

I'm not an English speaker but I hope you understand what I mean. I first listened to this young man a few years ago. Once, only once. I understand French well, so the words of the song impressed me, then, when I listened to the whole song, I was left speechless like a dentist .- Such a voice… I suspected was an exceptional gift from mother nature. Thirdly the singer is really "charismatic" I went up and down with him following without any opposition of my mind, the story of the song, living it intensely, stirred my senses, my ancestral memories, my energies. Listening to Dimash Kudaibergen - SOS d'un terrien en détresse, was an exceptional experience for me. So, I'm not a passionate music lover, I'm not a fan of this singer but I appreciate him as a "rare avis" and the analysis made by you interested me a lot to understand how he can reach these sounds and I really liked how you did It! In fact, I wanted a confirmation in my own opinion ,that this is a special human specimen, I have it and I appreciate that this confirmation comes from a specialty. На Виндовом компьютере в Ютюбе у вас будет (есть) возможность включить субтитры английские, потом кликнуть по "Перевод" и в выпавшем списке языков выбрать "Русский". Переводчик - тот еще затейник, напереводит вам абракадабры. Но можно догадаться, что анг. "ноут" он переводит не как "нота", а как "заметка"; "взять ноту" может звучать по-английски как "флэш" и перевестись как "удар", ну и так далее. Но общий восторженный смысл, эпитеты можно понять. А ещё все поняли, что он показывал своим локтём на 10:10 ? - типа что сейчас Димаш исполнил что-то невероятное, невозможное для нормального человека как если бы согнуть руку в локте в обратную сторону :)))

I saw a KZbin video of Dimash singing Diva Dance a few years ago. I nearly fell of my chair. Before I lost my voice, I had a 3-octave range and I know how hard it Is to reach those top notes and make them pure. But for a man to do it was absolutely phenomenal. I knew that Dimash was going to go on to be a world-wide star. I've been following his career, ever since, and I am delighted to see that others recognize the miracle of his voice. But fame comes at a terrible price and I hope he is able to keep his head on straight despite the intense pressure of stardom.

Well, you earned my respect the moment you spoke of "equipment". Too many vocal coaches claim "anybody can sing" and that's just bullcrap. There are those who are tone deaf and can't even pitch the notes as well as people like me for example, who have decent relative pitch, know what note they need to hit but simply lack the equipment to accomplish it. it's refreshing to encounter a vocal coach who is focused on teaching rather than drumming up business.

I believe anyone can sing but not everyone is going to sound good. I've got wonderful feelings from someone who is singing from their heart with deep sincerity. My ears might bleed but I give them credit.
