The most impressive thing about this performance is his breath control. After the crazy high note he did, he held a ridiculously AGILE run that went on for 25 seconds. Watch it again, it's even more impressive than the high note.

For me the fact that he wasn't out of breath at the end of the 25 second run was amazing. For most of us when we exhaust all our breath we take a huge gasp to replenish the oxygen. Dimash barely takes a breath as he continues singing. Not on;y that I have NEVER heard him inhale ever while singing no matter the length of the note. AMAZING!

New subscriber here after watching your collab with Sam Johnson. Thank you for your professional analysis. Most people are impressed by Dimash’s high notes but that alone certainly can’t define him. And the fact that he makes singing like this so effortlessly, people tend to overlook the difficulty and handworks involved.

Bettie! Thanks for watching and for your comments here. The sign of a true professional is their ability to make something difficult look easy. Dimash is, technically, without a doubt, the best in history. To an amazing vocal range of 6 octaves and 1 note (C2 to D8) (Do2 to Re8), it is an exquisite technique that generates a clear voice capable of competing with any well-tuned instrument and an exceptional interpretation, capable of generating treble beyond the best sopranos can make them with the power you want. Dimash has been a singer capable of singing "Diva Dance", even cleaning the audio editing area that the soprano Inva Mula needs, highlighting the staccatos that even surpass the Yma Sumac. Its quality is the same singing any type of music, even in its performances of pure opera. I am Spanish and Spain is the birthplace of great singers: Plácido Domingo, Monserrat Caballé, Alfredo Kraus, Camilo Sesto, etc., and I have never seen anything like this singer, composer and musician. a greeting.

I'm grateful to you, Marc, for your expert and professional comments. I, of course, do not master many of the technicalities that you explain so nicely. To me, Dimash's singing is so immensely pleasing, heart-rending, soulful that I just enjoy it and let the rivulets of tears roll down my cheeks. I'm a linguist, and I pay some attention to Dimash's pronunciation of the Russian language (which is not his native language). That, too, is masterful. The way he pronounces the liquid consonants (which do not exist in English) is exemplary. -- Mr. Igor Krutoy, the most celebrated Russian composer of contemporary music, (who has taken Dimash under his wings; he and Dimash have produced "The Love of Tired Swans, "Mlle Hyde" and "Ascolta la voce" so far) said about Dimash (a few days ago): "No one is greater than Dimash." Mr. Krutoy, in his white shirt, in the front row, was the first to jump up and applaud once Dimash had concluded this Sochi performance of "Sinful Passion" and was about to be drowned under the flowers offered by the grateful Russian audience. The pianist of the band (Studio-A), who accompanied Dimash, is the composer of this song. The band consists of Dimash's Kazakh friends.
@santiagoscho5 жыл бұрын
vocal genius he is! from 5th element, he's now in 6th element!
@zemanoshtronz4 жыл бұрын
The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental Arab technique, is a funeral lament, paying homage to the dead vocalist: Brilliant! The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio. The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebyev, who is the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.

Thanks Andreas! .... so should I not be talking as much? I mean this as a genuine question with no snark in it. I get excited about it and have so much I want to say but then when I go back and edit I think "I'm talking too much" and cut stuff out but probably still need to cut more out. I would love to hear what people want - keep the same amount of talking or talk less?
@zalanemankiety11265 жыл бұрын
@@DrMarcReynolds As someone who's here because I genuinely want to learn more about singing - I loved your in-depth analysis. It's always flattering to hear that our favourite singer is awesome, but from a vocal teacher I expect a detailed analysis, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Another wonderful thing about Dimash - he made so many of us interested in learning about vocals! I always thought myself a hopeless singer, and here I am, listening what's healthy, what's not, and how to improve :)
@andreasbuhrmann84425 жыл бұрын
@@DrMarcReynolds You're welcome :) I think I got the feeling of "too much" from your first pause. You said Dimash switched from pop to oparatic. Then started explaining difference between an oparatic sound vs a pop sound in terms of vibrato, and then talked about formants which was a word I'm unfamiliar with. Then you mentioned overtone series in relation to formants. That's a lot of technical information conveyed rather quickly. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think most people would need prior knowledge to understand what you're saying here thus my 'most viewers' comment. Using vocal examples, which you started doing more towards the end of the video, would most likely have made it easier to understand. For me at least! :) When it comes to technical terms, I think they're important in achieving a level of understanding, as well as making analysis. That however brings the question: Is your channel for the broad audience/laymen who only barely grasp such terms, and would have a need to have them explained often with practical examples, or do you want to mostly appeal to people already into voice teaching or coaching? Since you're a director I'm sure you're well-aware but I think considering who your audience is and at what level you want to convey is important. I watched this kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4POmH5qn8ucbK8 video on explaining musical harmony on 5 levels which I think is relevant. An example of a youtube channel where the creator holds nothing back is 8-bit music theory ( kzbin.info/door/eZLO2VgbZHeDcongKzzfOw ). I think it's great he only briefly explains the music theory concepts, and instead focuses on analysis with every tool he has.

A performer who makes other people want to sing too ... that says something wonderful about a performer. For the record - no voice is hopeless if that person is willing to work towards improvement. Wonderful and informative I really don’t want to use reaction. It was like sitting in a master class. I really enjoyed your insights. I feel we are starting to see the beginnings of Dimash as an artist over the past year. At the worlds best he is giving them what they asked him fo by naming him the 6 octave man. Dimash never answers how wide his range is. He says it is not important. In saying that I feel since the singer he has been working to develop his lower areas. Also perhaps the more middle sounds. There are nuances that I hadn’t heard before that are more regular now. He is also adding in more folk and other inspirations from across the globe into his songs. I am truly looking forward to hearing him 5 or 10 years down the road. I remember hearing Lena Horne on cassette then seeing her live in concert. The cassette was great but good lord in concert, she was just astounding to me. Dimash tends to astound me in tape versions as I have only heard him through the internet. I can only imagine what seeing him live might be like. I was fortunate growing up I got to hear a wide variety of music, living in 7 countries gave me even more to listen to and appreciate. 😊

Great comments! Very informative and impressing to me. Do other Dimash stuff: Hello, S.O.S., ADAGIO, Confessa + Diva Dance, Daididau, All by myself, Opera 2 etc.). Thanks!

Thank you for your reaction, I really admire the amount of detail and depth you go into - it's extremely unique for a vocal coach on KZbin to be so vocal about the techniques used and how they alter the performance. It's taught me so much from just one video already, I really appreciate it!

Since I watch and listen to Dimash voice his renditions, I have learn alot about how to sing.. Then, yes... I feel like singing too although my voice is not that good.. And, most of all you teach me how to produce such a voice like Dimash does. Thank you 🙏😘

This is the festival "New Wave" in Sochi (Russia). There was a competition of young performers and concerts of Russian artists. Dimash acted as a guest at the jubilee concert of the Kazakh group "A-studio". Baigali Serkebaev - the author of the song - plays the piano here. It was a phenomenal performance! Superb low notes at the beginning, unreal high notes at the end. And again the oriental tones in the song! Melismа in the finale together with the last "Let" - 23 seconds! Dimash used kazakh singing technique. "Zhoktau" is an expression of grief in Kazakh. And in this song Dimash pays tribute to the first performer - Batyrkhan. You can hear it from the Turan group. Saha people ( Russia) uses this technique too. Here is the story of the song and the song with English subtitles - kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5m8gmyJhqyrrZI

@@DrMarcReynolds it's the alien song from the 5th element, it was made with vocals and synthesizers and defo autotune, it's supposed to be impossible for humans to sing, Dimash does not copy it completely, but close enough and he totally slay it in the Bastau concert (make sure u use the Bastau one, that one was PERFECT!!!)

Thank you, Dr. Marc! I'm so happy to see you reacting to Dimash after your collab with Sam. You go more in depth and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have learned a lot about vocals since I started following Dimash almost 2 years ago. You expanded my knowledge to a better understanding. Thank you!
