Join Elizabeth Zharoff as she reacts to Dimash for the first time, and analyzes both the music and singing.
This is a video of a live performance during New Wave in Sochi, Russia during 2018. It was also the debut of Sinful Passion, and the original band to write and perform the song (A Studio) is on stage with Dimash.

I am a Chinese, my American husband introduced me your channel. Dimash is one of two my favorite singers, the other one is Hua chenyu, and his martian funs call him as Huahua (flower). I would really appreciate it if you would react to huahua's song. Here is one call Child. It is a covered song. It shows his vocal skill. He is a composer and has lots of great songs.😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ3Sq6CriqiWfLs

To y'all complaining about the pausing and wanting to listen without interruption: Ever considered just going to watch the original video, which Elisabeth ALWAYS links in the description? Is that so hard? I for one am here exactly _because_ she's pausing and giving commentary within the concrete context.

The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental Arab technique (or traditional cazaq singing, called Joqtaw), is a funeral lament, paying homage to the dead vocalist: Brilliant! The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio. The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebyev, who is the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.

Dimash does not use styles of music. He makes the arrangement he thinks he needs. The next generations of singers will learn from his songs.

I think your insight about his not singing in styles is accurate and thank you for mentioning it. I am not a singer but it seems to me that any mention of a "style" that someone tries to use to define him is merely always going to fall well short of the full measure of what he is doing. Rather than the word style I think perhaps the word different techniques might be less constrictive. Obviously, he had been trained in opera techniques, pop techniques et cetera but he has so much unbelievable control, range, versatility and intelligence he can in an instant combine them in ways likely only someone as exceptional as he can and in doing so creates a brand new "style".

What drives my obsession with this channel is the attention you give to some of these artists' character. The way you analyze his eye contact and posture at the end of the performance and relate it to his courtesy toward the band... As much as I would give anything to get your insight into music, I would give even more listen to you talk empathy and philosophy. You seem to just immediately assume the best in everyone in a world where so many people want to imagine the worst. We need more of this!

AF 101ILLUSTRATOR35 I wholeheartedly support your request for a reaction to War and Peace! An absolutely beautiful song written by Dimash himself. The performance of this song from the concert in Ekaterinburg earlier this year is simply astounding (better than earlier performances from his concerts in China, he changed the arrangement). There is not much vocal acrobatics/fireworks there, but the tone, the feeling - sooooo beautiful. Dear Elizabeth, please, please react to it!

Thank you for your knowledgeable and delightful review of Dimash. And thank you for explaining what happened at the end. I always wondered if he had intended to continue singing, but didn't when the Dears began laying flowers on the stage. But I knew that Dimash is used to people thinking he has stopped and he had never stopped him from finishing. So now, I finally know. Also, when I watch this, I always notice how Igor glances around at the people next to him as if he's thinking, "Why aren't you on your feet?"

I'm sorry my friend with all due respect to Khazakstan and their culture the style of singing he used in these 3 songs and in Ascota la voce is Arabian . Maybe they borrowed somethings from the Arabian culture because they share the same religion and the Quraan is in Arabic , but anyway that type music and singing was Arabian for a long long time before other Islamic countries borrowed from it .

Awesome cant wait to see your reaction. I saw this in I think 2018, best 25 seconds up to his performance of love is like a dream, both are awesome, but the angelic sounds he does in the former and a sustained note like no other won it over for me. Just commenting to help you with the algorithm. Doubled up again on subscribers, should be above 10k by tomorrow. Keep up the good work

What a fabulous review. There aren't many KZbin reviewers that know what to look for and explain to us the listeners what kind of technic the singer has to make with his vocal cords, lungs, diaphragm, etc. But you do. It is not easy to deliver these tones as good as he does. I often think about how easy it seems for him to perform these songs, but I know you know better, that this is a difficult task, and it's better to be in a good physical state. Thank you.

Amazing reaction. Just tried holding 25sec on a 'plain' note and that in itself is impossible to do, never mind doing it live and with all phenomenal vocal acrobatics that Dimash can do! 😆

Awesome review! Thank you for your comments re. Dimash. The first time I saw Dimash perform I thought it was a joke because no one could have that range. I love seeing gifted singers for at least two reasons: (1) being gifted, they sing so well. Moreover (I have little musical knowledge), it is my opinion that one of the most beautiful sounds is the trained, gifted human singer. (2) Such talent reveals the glory of the Holy Trinity who made us. I lamented one time about having no little talent, and the person with whom I was conversing said, "It takes one to sing but just as important are those who listen." That helped!

You know when I listen to Dimash, I don't care about octaves, it' all about emotions!!! He uses all techniques, range and styles to deliver the best interpretation possible related to lyrics and their emotional expression. That why I don't wait for his high notes, I just close my eyes and listen in continuous mode from start to end to have a good perception of the master chief artwork he is trying to paint.

Loved your reaction and analysis! The original song is a solid pop ballad and there really was no precedent for transformation it went through to become this masterpiece. Much credit should be given to Dimash's friend and frequent collaborator, Erlan Bekchurin who arranged the piece. Dimash and Erlan want to use every opportunity to present Kazakh culture to the world so in 2018 they started to incorporate ethnic elements in songs, where appropriate.

To put that last phrase into perspective, the world record for running 200 meters is 19.19 seconds. Insane not only to sing that so beautifully, but at the END of the song. Fantastic reaction as always - keep it up!!

For the ethnic part, you see after the whistle tone, it's a traditional Kazakh funeral tone. It is a tribute to the original singer of this song that died. That's why the presentator did a pun at the end that he would have a heart attack. I'll suggest to you to do researches about the songs that Dimash does because they almost always have a lot of meaning. For this kind of stuff there is Gloria Wu's channel with the Singer prestation. Some songs need that explanation before the performance. For example, Daididau, Late Automn (or Automn Strong) and Daybreak, need explanations. Daididau and Daybreak have, for me, the best performance at the Bastau concert. I'll recommend to watch the first part of explanation than the performance in Bastau.
