If you were feeling this performance, you will be overcome by the official video of this song and its backstory. Forget a tissue, you’ll need a beach towel.

Fantastic reaction, "it's the little details" you identified in the song got to me as well. Also the importance of music as art and its ability to connect us to our feelings and grief. Thanks

This is a very powerful song. James has many emotional songs with hard hitting lyrics. "No bravery", The girl that never was", "Dark Thought", "goodbye my lover" are prime examples of this. He's good at being simple but powerful. He also has some great uplifting songs "The greatest", "Adrenaline", "Bonfire heart". Thank you for your reaction and analysis... You are right about the shrekiyness of his voice in this, he purposely chose to sing this way to mirror a child crying out to their parent.

One thing about James Blunt performances is that he always seems to feel the song every time. The song "No Bravery", based on his time in Bosnia as a tank captain, usually results in the piano getting the hell slapped out of it, since he's clearly still really angry about what he saw. Every time.

The official video is just a close up of his face and him crying as he sings and then his dying father comes into the video as well. So much more emotional then this performance

Warning: If you can't bear the thought of a parent losing a child you will want to avoid yet another James Blunt song, "The Girl That Never Was." Yes, James Blunt has just turned 50 but he does look young.

His official video has his father in it, and it is way more emotional than this one.

His song " The girl that never was" was about a miscarriage by his wife in their life together. He once said this is his therapy for trauma in his life. Writing and singing his way through the trauma.
