I had the privilege of meeting Marcelito Pomoy at a meet and greet in Toronto, Canada on Friday, June 7th and watched him in concert the next day. He took a chair and sat down with my wife and I to chat with us. He is so humble yet seemingly inherently shy. The videos DO NOT DO HIS VOICE JUSTICE. He sounds way better live. MARCELITO POMOY IS THE REAL DEAL. Proud to be Filipino. Cheers from Toronto. VII.

COMPLEXITY: Two notable artists sung their voices by 1 person; not his own language(s) but fluently rendered; the amazing transition of tone (high/low register), not to mention the breathing (singing while sitting); plus, this guy doesn't undergo any formal training as he grew up on the streets! He is indeed a masterpiece!☝

EXACTLY!! Classically trained musicians critique based on what they have learned in studying their particular "craft". I am classically trained, and I will tell you that there is only one word to describe Marcelito... and that is MIRACULOUS!!

You have a very valid point about the breathing, taking a breath in the middle of a word. Trained singers are taught to avoid that. The ironic thing is though, he has no formal singing training. His abilities are all self taught and instinctual. The fact that he sounds this good with no training is, to me at least, astonishing. Plus throw in the fact that he's singing both parts of a male/ female duet, in two different languages; English and Italian. And he's Filipino with a limited knowledge of English. All those factors without any formalized singing training is freaking incredible! So, in my humble opinion, taking a breath in the middle of a word while bouncing back and forth between a male and female can, and should be overlooked when you take into account the bigger picture

I haven't watched the reaction yet, but your comment caught my eye.. It makes me not want to watch this, because I personally always love to hear talented singers/artists in whatever shape or form, but they are not supermen/women.. They will make some 'mistake' at some point, but that's part of the reason why we love them. They are incredible, but are also human, and for those commenting on whatever 'skill' or what not in this video: I dare you to do the same thing he does AND do it better... Sounds easy enough, right?? Lol

He told someone that that action at the end was letting the spirit of the female out of his body. He learned how to do this song by copying the original, and doesn't speak Italian or English fluently, so that's why he has their accents. He was on The Ellen Show, where (with an interpreter) he told of living in the Philippine streets from 3 to 18yrs old, and never had any vocal lessons.

Tnx again Coach. It's true that Marcelito hasn't learned perfect breathing techniques, I also noticed that. That's because, like most Pilipino singers, is/are self taught, afterall they can't afford to pay Vocal Coaches. Pilipino Singers just rely on their God given Raw Talents and just mimic and/or copy the original singers and practicing it especially thru Videoke (Karaoke) which is found in many households and in every nook and cranny of the country. That's the reason many foreigners believed that Pilipinos are great and talented singers doing their own thing, and Vocal Coaches in the Philippines don't make much as a profession. Most Pilipino singers you find on YT seldom trained by coaches, except those already with celebrity status that coaches are hired to do the polishing and giving some techniques. Tnx Lauren.

@chattcedric63215 жыл бұрын
@@SingingwithLauren Tnx Coach, but it was not a point of view, its reality in the Philippines and I know because I'm a Pilipino. As I said before, pure raw talents pervade the Pilipino singers and wannabees, just mimicing the original singers 'coz they rely only thru their God given talents and besides hiring vocal coaches is costly. Vocal Coaches are only seen on TV and Radio Stations who can afford them, only to guide and give advises about vocal technicalities. Tnx again Lauren.

I think breathing is extremely difficult in this case. When Andrea breathes Marcelito already sings the part of Celine and vice versa. Singing a duet alone probably requires special breathing skills. At the end is Marcelitos joke, when he spits out the woman.

It's a pretty difficult duet sung by a single person in both male and female voice. When Andrea and Celine sang the song, they had time to breath as the lyrics overlaps. Doing it with a single person is IMPOSSIBLE. 99%(if not all) of professional singers and teachers/coaches won't be able to put up a solo duet performance as good as this one.

I've heard great singers, classical and pop breath between words. It is not unheard of nor intentional and definitely not tacky in my opinion. It was done innocently to give more room for the next phrase. He could have taken a deep breath before "ezperanza" but the next phrase is going to a higher note and more expressive tone. So for him breathing between this word is quite remarkable, because he was able to produce an anti-climactic effect after it. I've heard Pink's incredible rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, live, which became viral in KZbin. I noticed some critics noted too the seemingly "carefree" breathing she used in the beginning, cutting between words too which was unintentional and which gave an effect of innocence as opposed to tacky. I loved her interpretation and so did millions. Oftentimes, technical breathing in singing is not necessary, esp in this case and in Pink's for that matter. He is singing the male and female parts of a song sang by legendary singers, in English and Italian, which he had never spoken. He never had a coach, never studied music and he almost won AGT. Breathing technique could only go so far. Sometimes, all one needs is a natural talent to sing to the whole world.

You got good comments about singing. It's nice that you pointed out some problems, that makes the reaction more realistic, because I also found the same things and I'm not even a voice coach or a singer. I love to sing and I'm not very good at it so I always observed how good singers do it. I could mimic what they do so I got better at singing, but still not as good as them. I also sing some female songs but I found it hard doing what Marcelito is doing, singing both voices of a duet. You need a whole new level of voice lessons/coaching just to make what he does perfect. Singing doble kara is so underrated...
