One piece of sound advice (I think) I received from a professional voice artist is that if you have your demo professionally produced abs get work off of it, the clients will expect the same quality and you may not be able to provide that, it was a good point to think on.
@Voiceacting1013 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think the demo and the work you send to clients should come from the same studio/setup. So the client knows what to expect.

Excellent, practical advice, Jason… especially for one who hasn’t been doing VO work very long (only audiobooks so far) and is at the point of needing a demo for other types of work, but not being able to afford to have it “professionally” produced… yet.

Is it legal to transcribe words from a commercial or website and say it in my own voice and use it for my demo? (Without saying the brand)
@cultureuptown79604 жыл бұрын
Yes it is totally legal. You're not selling any product, you're just using words to show your vocals. So as long as you don't claim that as past work you've done, you can use it for demo production.

Thank You Jason! I have professionally produced commercial and narration demos. But I’ve been wanting a character/animation demo for a while now, as I Love this niche of work! I’ve just been on the fence about spending the $ for professional production or doing it myself.

Human beings are so silly. If you're capable of learning a new skillset you can produce a professional quality demo. It sickens me when people act like other people are magical. They are regular people who learned a skill. You can too.

Thank you for the video! I have two questions. Should a demo be clips from your past work or should it be a script you write that is directed towards the client/industry you would like to work with? Secondly, as a beginner voice actor where do you recommend to start looking for work and when I say beginner I mean brand new haha.
@Voiceacting1013 жыл бұрын
If your past work is professional enough you can go with that. Otherwise, scripts written just for your demo are best. Each demo should be directed to the niche you're going for. voiceacting101.com/voice-over-work/

@@Voiceacting101 Thanks for the info I appreciate it. How early in a voice actors career do you recommend doing a demo. As in right out the gate or maybe after doing a few gigs?
@mediamannaman3 жыл бұрын
But I haven't done any work yet. Where do I get the scripts from if I produce the demo myself? Do I use sample scripts of fictional companies that I can find online? Do I use the actual scripts of commercials for real companies, even though I was not the one who did the actual voice over? Do I write them myself for real companies? Fictional companies?
@Oogler1 Жыл бұрын
From what I've heard you can just transcribe a real commercial you like and use that. As long as you aren't using that clip specifically to make money it falls under fair use.

This was very helpful. I'm great at mixing a demo, but I lack in skills writing copy. Are their resources for original scripts to use for demos?
@christianjorgensen2494 жыл бұрын
I was advised to go to ispot.tv where you will be able to search/ view TV commercials. Find what best fits where you’re at and transcribe the narration. Then listen to the commercial many times and try to imitate it.
@Voiceacting1014 жыл бұрын
That way works well. You could also hire a writer or try writing some short ones yourself.

Search "sample scripts" or "practice scripts" online. There are thousands! Voices .com and voicebunny have many practice sample scripts on their websites
